You know the drill.
Im of the harder rock persuasion, so ratman is the clear winner for me. The better disturbed song, pain is an amazing song, and skillet is great. I think ive been confusing them with skrillex, so was biased against them.
Fletwood mac is in no way country. It is folk rock similar to tom petty and Simon and Garfunkel. 100% rock, 100% not a fan.
Pro had some excellent choices, like dream on. But overall con had superior choices (imo).
R1-RM's song felt very emo, but it was a bit better than Virt's song, "Pain" was just too powerful in my opinion, solid start by both however. 1-0 to RM
R2-RM's song was energetic an flowed well, despite the lead singers horrible piercings, Virt's song was fine, but a win none the less for RM. 2-0 in favour of RM.
R3- Virt's song is awesome, very catchy and some solid vocals to back that up, RM's song was okay at the beginning, but the ending was very nice, however Virt's song was amazing from beginning to end, my favourite song in the debate. Virt wins. 2-1
R4-Damn Dream on was strong, ended well and kept me entertained all the way through. RM's song was better though, loved the drop and lyrics, my favourite round in the whole debate. 3-1
R5-Despite the weird piercings and Virt's song being a meme, it was genuinely good, RM's song was very catchy with superior vocals however. RM wins the round and debate. 4-1 in favour of RM
In short, both offered solid songs, I generally preferred RM's songs though, one problem I had with a few songs was struggling to understand what was being said, although it didn't persuade me to change my vote for any of the rounds. Also, Virt's R5 in my opinion wasn't rock, but I opted to count it as rock anyway. Sadly there can only be one winner, but both competitors ought to be mighty proud, solid songs all the way through, a true pleasure to vote on.
R1: Love both of these songs, so this is a tight one. By a small margin, Pro's "Under Your Scars" takes it.
R2: Two great Disturbed songs, but an easier choice this round. Con's "Stricken" is one of my favorites of theirs, so it takes this round.
R3: I do view Fleetwood Mac as rock, including this song, though it certainly takes some influence from country. This is an easy choice; though I'm a big fan of both of these songs (Paramore rocks as well), Pro's "The Chain" is probably my favorite of the songs of any of those presented in this debate, so it takes this round.
R4: Another easy choice despite excellent band choices on both sides (personally wouldn't have picked this particular song from Foo Fighters, but that's just me). "Dream On" is another one of my absolute favorites, so Pro takes this round.
R5: This is another really tough one. "Sound of Silence" is absolutely beautifully covered by Disturbed here, and I listen to this one on repeat. However, I can't give them credit for those incredible lyrics, since it is a cover, so it loses some ground against Con's choice. I have to give it to Skillet's "The Resistance" here - it may not be my favorite song by the band, but it's damn good.
That's 3-2 in favor of Pro, so that's how the points will be awarded.
I'll just award the win per round
R1
Pro - Immediately love the piano opening so nice! The voice is ok but gives me country vibes, drop is eh but after that it's not bad at all!
Con - Not a huge fan of rock but this wasn't bad, I hate the drop though but it's alright
Pro wins
R2
Pro - I like the buildup, but I hate guitar so after that it's like ew, the lyrics are ok but the screaming is dramatic to me
Con - This is just Pro's song without the intro to me, it's different in a way but eh
Tied
R3
Pro - Ok sounds country starting off, it's catchy!! I like what they do with the alternating voices a lot!
I'm allowing it as rock since Con seemed ok with it
Con - I like it off the bat, it's a different style of alternative, it's short enough to loop though so hmm
Tied once again
R4
Pro - Well this is the only song I actually know I think, I like it starting out slowly, it like deliberately builds up for a while, it's disappointing when it doesn't drop when I expect it to though
Con - Funny lyrics, I don't mind this tempo, it's weirdly catchy?
Con by a small margin
R5
Pro - Oh this song! I didn't know that's where these lyrics can't from. This dude's really deep voice works really well somehow
Con - I like the rhyming, nice voices and the screaming is bearable lol, so it's not that bad, and I like how it's all put together
The voice in Pro's is amazing so he wins
For the record, I would've discounted Pro's R3 and R5 completely if Con had asked me to, neither really struck me as rock
Why did I come here expecting to see a proof of why metamorphic rock is better than igneous rock?
Please vote if Rock is to your taste.
This is bullshit, 7 point votebomb is out of order, pls counter it someone
The time to vote is here. The time to listen to music has arrived.
please describe why you loved/hated what you did if you can.
Pls vote if you have time.
Thabks for the vote, I agree ot is on the edge of Rock genre. I dont get the disproportionate 7-poijt vote from the first voter though
Dibs on the next rock battle
Would be interested in your vote here if Rock pleases you at all.
Thabks for the feedback, I agree with most of it. Rock artists do indeed enunciate words strangely.
I enjoyed this battle and hope you did too.
I could have done it that way, though it probably would have favored Virt more if I did. Round-by-round is just simpler for my purposes.
Thanks for proportionally voting, although I don't understand this round-by-round analysis of what is really a 5 v 5 debate, where quality should be the scaling.
Wtf at my typos... Anyway, congrats on the win Virtuoso. I don't agree with it, nor do I regret in engaging in this. I have learned more about who votes on these and who has what taste. The 'ecosystem' of voters on music has definitely changed, had we had this debate months ago with the same songs, I predict I'd win.
Thanks for the vote
Well I know that, but I know nothing about rock, which is why I allowed it since you were ok with it
"Disregarding something as rock is up to tje voter, not song poster. Ita obcious you like softer music, he abused the edges of the genre to achieve that. I was apoealing to truer rock fans or people seeking rock in its raw intense form."
I disagree here. Soft rock is fair game. I personally love soft rock, acoustic rock, and hard rock.
You guys strike me as types who may like Rock.

Perhaps you guys would like this, not sure what your taste is in rock, but I am honestly proud of my selection in this. I loved Rock, had a real emo phase (in my DDO days was still somewhat in the phase), Rock understands anger and sadness like no other genre in my opinion.
Though that would make an interesting trap debate
rofl
ohhhhh, I thought you were talking about rocks in the ground.
Feel free to fix that in the next round
I forgot to post the song name for R1, it's Pain by TDG
Amazon URL is wrong too, damn.
Yes, metal would be acceptable, though pop would be left up to the voters to decide.
can it move into metal and pop? I'm not crystal clear on what is NOT rock in and around the genre.
