THBT: JARAD [sic] KUSHNER WANTS to CLEAR up ANY MISUNDERSTANDING

PRO has forfeited round 1, forcing CON to define the terms of this debate

DEFINITIONS:

JARED KUSHNER (born January 10, 1981)  is the "senior advisor to his father-in-law, Donald Trump, the president of the United States and is married to Ivanka Trump, President Trump's daughter and fellow advisor"

WANT [verb] is "to wish for or desire (something)"

CLEAR UP [verb] is "to clarify, to correct a misconception"

MISUNDERSTANDING [noun] is "a mistake as to the meaning of something or a specific point of view; erroneous interpretation or comprehension; misconception"

BURDEN of PROOF:

WiKiPEDiA offers:

  • "When two parties are in a discussion and one makes a claim that the other disputes, the one who makes the claim typically has a burden of proof to justify or substantiate that claim
    • CON interprets PRO's thesis to mean that PRO must prove that Kushner has a sincere desire to publicly correct some public mistake.  Since Kushner has never offered any public self-correction of any kind, PRO's case must fail
ARG1: KUSHNER ADVISED the PRESIDENT that the CORONAVIRUS THREAT was HYPE

  • "Mr. Kushner’s early involvement with dealing with the virus was in advising the president that the media’s coverage exaggerated the threat"
ARG2: KUSHNER and MILLER AUTHORED the MAR 11 OVAL OFFICE ADDRESS

  • "During the address, Trump inaccurately said "all travel from Europe" would be prohibited, and that the travel prohibitions would apply to goods. The speech caused markets to plunge, as White House aides had to clarify what the actual policy was. European leaders said they were blindsided by the address.  The speech set off panic among Americans abroad who had to scramble to learn whether they could return back to the United States and under what circumstances; this created chaos at airports in Europe and the United States.  In the address, Trump blamed Europeans and the Chinese for the virus, describing the virus as a "foreign virus""
ARG3: KUSHNER AUTHORED the MAR 13 ROSE GARDEN ADDRESS

  • "Trump falsely claimed that Google was "quickly developing" a website that could help test people for coronavirus.  Trump also overstated a project intended to set up testing sites across parking lots across the United States, taking the state and federal health care workers who oversee the project by surprise"
    • Kushner's plan was to give the massive project to his brother, Joshua Kushner who owns Oscar Health- at tech industry health insurance company.  The Kushners invested five days in developing the app before it became apparent that the press was going to report the family connection.
      • "Then the website was suddenly and mysteriously scrapped"
      • That is, the President promised an app that would expedite testing and pay the family a fat chunk of taxpayer money.  When it became clear the family would not make money, the project ended.
    • 30 days later, neither of Trump's Rose Garden promises are even under consideration any more
  • The Dow Jones took its worst hit ever (12.93%) in direct response to Jared's greedy fumble
CONCLUSION

Clarity is not what Jared Kushner is about.  When the truth becomes clear, kleptocrats like Kushner go to jail.
Jared Kusher does not want to clear up any misunderstandings.

CON looks forward to PRO's R2 reply

Jared Kushner is a village idiot who holds a position in the government only because the president is his father in law

Criterion Pro Tie Con Points
Better arguments 3 points
Better sources 2 points
Better spelling and grammar 1 point
Better conduct 1 point
Reason:
Pro drops Cons arguments without offering a worthwhile argument of his own. As a result of this, Con must win arguments.
Conduct to Con because Pro forfeited.
#1
Criterion Pro Tie Con Points
Better arguments 3 points
Better sources 2 points
Better spelling and grammar 1 point
Better conduct 1 point
Reason:
Con made a strong a three tiered argument that he does not actually want things clarified. Con countered that he is a village idiot, which does not imply he wants anything clarified.
Conduct for fortitude.
Sources are too overwhelming to need to be weighted individually.
