Universal Common Ancestry is the idea that all life is at least distantly related and descended from the same ancestor. Endogenous Retroviruses are segments of DNA that appear to have originated as virus RNA injected into an ancestor's germ cell.
People and monkeys have most of the same ERVs in the same parts of our DNA, proving that people and monkeys are related and descended from a common ancestor who was infected by a retrovirus, had their DNA modified by this virus, and then passed it down to both people and monkeys.
By examining the DNA of other organisms besides just people and monkeys, one can demonstrate that not only are people and monkeys related, but all organisms are related.
This is right up your alley
