Opening Statement

A Space Force would have multiple positive effects across the board if implemented in the United States. In this debate my definition of a Space Force is a sixth branch of the military that operates above our atmosphere.

A1: Research Purposes

There is a lot we don’t know about our planet and the condition it’s in. Having something like a Space Force would mean increased possibilities of research. Right now the only thing in orbit around the Earth that their are Americans in is the International Space Station. Right now, the ISS can not do a limited amount of things. With something specific to our country, we could do. Having planes that could fly above the atmosphere and over America and space stations with solely American citizens on them could lead to great discoveries. Those discoveries could possibly make our economy thrive, having a resource that no one else has.

A2: Increased National Security

With increased tension between countries such as Russia, China, and Iran, they might send probes or other objects to spy on or impede national matters. If we had something like a Space Force, we could monitor what each country is doing and stop possible conflicts. For example, if we had another period like the Cold War, we could have a faster reaction to possible attacks and respond faster than if we did not have a Space Force. We could also monitor what probes and aircraft enter and leave our airspace with greater accuracy.

A3: Safety And Conservation

There is lots of space debris in our atmosphere, and that could pose a danger to other aircraft or space stations in our atmosphere. If we had a Space Force, we could clean up this debris and make the orbit around the Earth safer for future travelers in space. In a very unlikely case, an asteroid could crash to Earth, destroying an entire country or even the entire world. With a Space Force, we could stop the asteroids before they entered the atmosphere or break them up into smaller pieces. This would ensure greater safety for the US and the world.
