Wow I've never listened to this much electronic music before, so this was really my first time ever. I have to say that the consistent rhythm in Pro's music put me in a dancing kind of mood and I started to boogy a little bit. That is not to say that Con's music was bad, in fact that Ava Max song is really catchy and driving and I almost voted there, but the Dimrain song and the Destroid song made me feel like I was on cocaine, at least the dimrain song because of how fast it was...all things considered like beat, feel, melody/lead tune, driving bass, Pro's songs sounded better and put me in an electronic kind of mood, and I don't even listen to this stuff. Fun debate guys, I'm voting Pro.
Pro: Omari - save me. Has a tiny feel of Royksopp about it, asside from vocals. I like the chilled feel of this: 7
2 scratch and Drama B - this is not my favourite style of electronic, and is much more like commercial pseudo-r&b, to me, it was instantly forgettable, and I kinda tuned out. 3.
Ava max: typical vocal electronic music. The vocals were okay, but had didnt a particularly good electronic underpinning, made it sound like a throwaway pop song: 5.
Crossfire: I felt this one was okay, it was a little forgettable, but had a reasonable hook. 6
Axel theself: awesome track, I really enjoyed this one. Had a lot of intricacy, and as a more chill out form of electionic, very much had the different layers and depths you need when lying on the bedroom floor at 5:30am. I really enjoyed this one: 8.
Total: 29
Termite&panda eyes - highscore: had a little of a madeon feel to it, thought the main riff was good, but not as catchy as say grand finale, great variation though, I genuinely liked this song. 7
Pegboard nerd. Very “music for the jilted generation” industrial vibe to it once you get into the main theme, I felt the theme wasn’t that catchy, but it’s a pretty fun song: 6.
Living tombstone: I don’t mind remixes of non-EDM: popiholla by chicane is a perfect example - this was an abomination. I hated this song more than anything. Part of me wants to award a loss just for hearing this: 1
Dimrain: this was like if Alt-4 was played at 170bpm. Reminded me of the fire and flame track from guitar hero 3. It would have been better if slower, I can’t say I rate this one that highly: 4
Destroid: this is a good old fashioned middle of the road 2012 style EDM song, it lacked in hook and melody, and didn’t have anything exceptional to offer imo. If this song was a person, it would be a Keith: 5
Total: 23
Winner con.
I have to say I'm biased b/c I'd heard half of the songs Pro posted, whereas I'd heard non of Con's songs, so it was a new experience through and through. I loved the songs from each side, but I found myself dancing a little more to Con's music. Of course I also loved Pro's choices, but Con seemed to choose more unique songs (for example, Pro's Christmas choice was good, but it was basically an electronic version of a Christmas song, which is fine but I kind of grew bored with it (though I liked the ending)). The songs began to die off towards the end, though I liked Pro's finale. Nonetheless, my vote has to go to Con. I preferred more of their songs in the end.
Thanks for some awesome music guys :3
Why did you want me to get in here?
On second thought, it might be more appropriate to award Round 5 to neither party. But Mharman would still be the winner.
Round 5: Mharman. Didn't particularly like either, but Mharman's was slightly more interesting. I can see RM was trying to go with something beautiful, but in my opinion he could've done a lot better than he did. For example, a well-done electronic version of something of the Celtic music genre (that is, an electronic version which does not detract from the beauty of such). Back on DDO it was I think Mishapqueen who once posted a link to something of that nature, and it was a delight to listen to.
In any case, I'd clearly peg Mharman as the winner of this debate. Not sure whether I'm actually going to cast a vote, as it's possible that the Mods wouldn't be satisfied with the stated criteria behind my decision.
You are 100℅ entitled to your opinion on the matter. However, this debate is largely a matter of personal preferences, and as a potential voter I'm telling what I think.
I don't really think you are correct on your judgements.
Round 4: Mharman. RM's piece had some good lyrics, but Mharman's submission for this round was dope. "Good", even. If the two of you picked more stuff like that, I'd be more enthused about judging these kinds of debates.
Round 3: Narrow win for Mharman, because I like that song and the screen was showing something other than a gross chick with her tongue sticking out, though your rendition of the piece wasn't the best by any stretch of the imagination.
Round 2: Hated them both. Tie.
Round 1: Mharman.
Votes needed.
Plz vote.
Just the one song, and it's a very subjective stylistic thing. One singer was doing a flat low toned mumble I could rarely understand.
Why did my songs irritate you so much?
on DDO this exact side switching can happen. Admittedly there the name alters not just the colour.
Yeah, sorry for the confusion. Leftover habit from DDO.
I think you are referring to me as Pro?
R1 to pro.
R2 to con (I did not care for the vocals in pro's choice).
R3 to con (Christmas cats put it over).
R4 tied.
R5 to con (liked the dark feel of that choice a little more).
However, not casting a vote as I don't view this as a debate per se...
Make sure to ping me again later. I want to listen to the songs but won't be available until tonight or tomorrow.
