Description
Each round, the debater will select and post a link to an EDM (Electronic Dance Music) song. They may not use songs already used in the debate, either by themselves or their opponent. Debaters may use songs from other debates for no more than two rounds. No more than one link (i.e. one song) per debater per round. Judges have two weeks to render their decisions, and the time for posting rounds is 48 hours.
Debaters are free to post up to 75 characters explaining their choice of song in rounds 1-4, and up to 150 characters in round 5 to explain their choice of song and to summarize the debate. As always, be polite, and may the best songs win! Thanks in advance to the chosen judges for their assistance in determining a victor!
Round 1
Published:
Thanks to Speedrace for this debate! I look forward to a fun exchange of music.

My first song is "Ocean" by Martin Garrix featuring Khalid. It's filled with beautifully soft beats and some truly heartfelt lyrics. I hope you like it.

Published:
Thanks to bsh1 for this debate!

I was originally going to do a different song, but I couldn't resist this opportunity to do Ocean as well! This one is by Seven Lions and Jason Ross, featuring Jonathan Mendelsohn. This song features soft vocals over a melodic beat that reaches a crescendo into a layered beat for the chorus. I hope y'all like it!
Round 2
Published:
Thanks to Speed for his submission.

My next song is "Free" by Party Ghost and Restless Modern. It brings a gloriously fresh feeling to a well-trod topic (getting wiser/older)--there's a lot of artistry there. I hope you enjoy it!

Published:
As noted in the debate description, we are allowed to use two "road-tested" songs from previous debates, but only in two rounds. I'll be using one of those now.

Nevada by Vicetone, featuring Cozi Zuehlsdorff

This EDM is beautifully mixed with an almost rock-type sound, and it is both feel-good and catchy.
Round 3
Published:
Thanks to Speed for his submission.

To go in a bit more conceptual direction, my next song is "Years from Now," by Rameses B. It interpolates dialogue from the movie Tea and Sympathy into a wondrously haunting piece. I hope you love it!

Published:
Running Away by Taska Black and DROELOE, featuring CUT_

This EDM song cleverly blends violin with digital sounds and intermittent yet strong vocals.
Round 4
Published:
Thanks to Speed for his submission.

My penultimate song is "The Little Things," by Big Gigantic, the Kasbo remix. This song is food for the soul (not to mention soulful). It's simply, elegantly beautiful. I hope it speaks to you in the way it does to me.
Published:
Cataclysm by Au5 and Crystal Skies

This songs starts out slow but reaches blended EDM beat that is reminiscent of some rock sounds, but yet still sounds like a classic EDM beat.
Round 5
Published:
Thanks to Speed for a debate.

My final song is "Put Me Back Together" by Cheat Codes, featuring Kiiara. It's a romantic whisper put to melody. This debate, I chose songs which were individually strong and which jibe as a collection. Graceful, soft, wistful--beautiful. I hope you love this song and the whole collection.

Thanks to the judges for listening to my songs. Please vote Pro! Thank you.

Published:
Ride Or Die by The Knocks, featuring Foster The People - Vicetone Remix

I hope you guys enjoyed all of my songs! Thank you to bsh1, and thank you to the judges. Please vote Con!

"You should be prohibited from ever voting on an EDM debate again!"
agreed.
"Party rock is an amazing tune!"
1. Worst theme song for the most dangerous car is America: Live like a hamster, make Kia Soul your cage!
2. Won the 2012 Kid's Choice award and no other award after dominating the pop charts for months.
3. https://www.theguardian.com/music/2011/jul/14/lmfao-sorry-for-party-rocking-review
4. ACTUAL LYRICS: "Where the drank? I gots to know Tight jeans, tattoo, 'cause I'm rock and roll"
5. So derivative that LMFAO actually had to settle lawsuits with Rick Ross and Jermaine Jackson, in a genre that's like 96% derivation.
6. Multiple Rosh Hashanah parody covers.
7. Internet initialism is the basest form of human communication and by extension, band name.
8. The title of the album is an apology for the song, written on the album cover across the bared midriff of a young, faceless woman (yuck)
9. ACTUAL LYRICS: "Gainin' money, Oprah, dough Yo!! I’m running through these hoes like Drano"
10. "...seriously stupid rapping about spanking girls and bathing in champagne over a cheesy pastiche of Eighties synths and pounding beats" -Rolling Stone

I'm not really really a well versed judge of EDM.
This is a 1-10 scale with Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" as a 10
and LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem" as a 1

Speaking as a moderator, however, you are not strictly required to offer any RFD at all, because this is a troll debate.

You can basically just explain which songs you liked better and why. Some people score the songs using points. Others do it be a "who won which round" kind of thing, with the winner of most rounds being the winner overall.

If you could put them on a 1-10 scale then that’d be great, I don’t think that a huge amount of detail like the others is necessary, you should also wait for bsh to respond though

So this is a great sort of downbeat track. Somewhere between afterlife and above and beyond. I don’t normally like EDM that relies too heavily on the lyrics, it loses something in the layering, but I felt the counter melody and background layers really added up well, this was a great track: 9
Free: the vocals and track were interesting, it didn’t feel like it really built up to anything, the drop was disjointed and it didn’t feel like it added much. Without a good hook here, I didn’t feel this song had lots to offer: 5
Years from now: so this is my guilty pleasure type of song. It has a sort of Terra Ferma - among the stars/Stage one - space maneuvers (gotta love hooj) feel to it - kinda a little ashtrax throne in. I loved the Bassy chilled feel, and it’s a great tune I could listen to when I’m in the mood for some less energetic tracks. I straight up thought this track was amazing, and the type of song I love to mix- and I am quite happy to award this one: 10
The little things: this one was okay, a little bit along the lines of “someone to lean on”, bouncy and a good club song, but felt rather middle of the road. It’s interesting too be sure, but not didn’t really feel like it stood out: 6
Put me back together: this was again a buoy middle of the road, it had a simpler feel to the last round. This one was slightly more level, with a little bit more too it: a bit more haunting. For a wind down chilled track, it was passable. It was marginally more catchy than the last track with a hook I’m more likely to remember: 7
Total: 37
Ocean:
So this was a great vocal track - unlike Bsh’s ocean this was more my style of EDM vocal track - vocals as equal to the other layers rather than rising above. Much more above and beyond (have I mentioned I like A&B?); the build up was immense, but I was very, very let down by the drop. The discontinuous nature broke up the song too much in a place where I felt it needed to pick up with a full on beat. If it had, this would have been a 10, but without it, I felt the song failed for me: 6
Nevada: Really liked this track, great build up, great hook, hard edge mid section, and gelled well when the hook came in on top of the lyrics (that’s something many EDM songs don’t do right). Used the EDM equivalent of “the four chords”, but I was tapping along - the hook wasn’t quite as catchy or hummable as others though, so this lets it down from a 10: 9.
Running away: great track, higher tempo, interesting layering to it. Not as catchy imo as some of the others, but is definitely decent: 7
Crystal skies: I am in two minds here. On the one hand, the build up and verse structure was everything I love about EDM, it was Tilt, Matt Darey, everything. But on the other hand, the drop really let It down: I’m not a fan of dubstep breaks like this when it’s out of character with the rest of the song, and for this reason I can’t give it a big score: if it had continued its beat into a major classic EDM drop, this would have been a 9/10. However, with the drop, this song felt like a big let down:5
Ride or die: boom! Love this track, catchy hook, nice drop: I would have liked it a bit faster but I felt enjoyed this one, though a bit less than would warrant a ten.
This was my RFD for the last time you posted this track. While I love the song, the fact that you used it before was a bit cheaty. I would give this one a 2 point deduction.

Saying this, even without the deduction - Bsh wins this one 37/34

Reason:
I want to begin by thanking bsh1 and speedrace for inviting me to judge this debate. My philosophy when judging these types of debates is to award points per round. Whoever has the most points at the end of the debate is the winner. With that, let's begin.
ROUND 1
It's quite fascinating that both debaters chose to submit a song called "ocean." That being said, I really loved both of these songs! They had beautiful beats and an interesting chord progression. That being said, I like the lyrics to bsh's "ocean" a bit better and liked the strings in the piece. I'm giving R1 to bsh.
ROUND 2
Both had nice beats and lyrics. However, I kinda got bored with "Nevada" as it kinda repeated the same motif and lyrics over and over again. I felt the piece was overall stagnant with the chord progressions. I also don't quite understand why the song is called "Nevada." "Free" had much better lyrics and a more compelling melodic line. I give this round to bsh.
ROUND 3
I didn't really care for bsh's submission here. I didn't like the lyrics and didn't really care for the speech at the beginning. The song was a bit too long for me and kinda zoned out before the full 5:30. As for "Running Away," the lyrics were better and I liked the overall melody. This round goes to speedrace
ROUND 4
Outside of classical music, lyricless music is always a hit or miss for me. In this case, this was a miss. For a song 5 minutes in length, I got bored rather quickly with there being no lyrics. I liked bsh's "The Little Things" a lot. I liked the lyrics and liked the round. This round goes to bsh
ROUND 5
"Put me back together" was a great song. I love the color red and like the background with the video. The song's lyrics was quite compelling and at times moving. I also really liked "Ride of Die." I liked the melody and the lyrics, however I don't like the music video behind it. That being said, bsh edges out slightly for that reason.
CONCLUSION
Thank you guys for this debate. Both of you guys just gave me great music to add to my library. The winner of this debate is bsh.
