The girl's parents said her fate should be left in the hands of God.

Such things are far more common than they should be in the modern world but far less common than in the past. The world is becoming a better place with each decade that passes. Some day occurrences like this will be a thing of the past.

As you can see, sane nations and governments do still exist. Almost all Social Democracies (UK included) have this while all non-social-democracies end up with Trump, Kim Jong-un and whoever the hell else you please. Mugabe? Sure.

Yes, yes, UK had Blair but clearly that's an exception and not the rule.

What's unfortunate? The Judge overruling it is the thing to celebrate, the couple wanting otherwise is something to ignore, quite frankly.

The fact that there are people like this in the first place is unfortunate. As I said the world is getting better all the time so it is not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things but still unfortunate.

To eliminate people like this would require severe bullying and peer pressure that would make us all sheep who think the same way. It's fine to have original thinkers, it's not fine to let the truly crazy ones affect the lives of children.

I am not suggesting we work to actively eliminate this type of crazy thinking, I am suggesting that the problem will diminish over time. That doesn't mean I don't think it is a problem.

So what would you do? Kill them for thinking what they think?

Let's look at what I just said...

I am not suggesting we work to actively eliminate this type of crazy thinking.

Now zoom in a bit...

I am not suggesting we work to...

Just a bit more...

not

There we go. I think that's the part you missed.

How will you diminish the problem over time?

I... won't... I never said anyone will.

Look, I am not going to clutter this thread with a stupid non-sequitur tangent. I suggest you reread what I actually typed and if you still don't understand that's your problem.

So the problem will diminish itself?

Can anyone explain to me why some people think leaving it up to chance and letting God decide what happens are the same thing.

Because theists are generally horrendously ignorant, and (for the most part) have a serious lack of reasoning skills.

No. That demands an explanation beyond just "oh well they're theists." I know theists who would never buy that bullshit. That is some extra special ninth level bullshit right there.

Probably not, but I think some people think they aren't the same because you can pray to God but you can't pray to chance.  I presume that is thecase with the parents in this case - the BBC article says "They have a deep, profound and simple faith. They believe only in the power of prayer."

I'm sure you're right. They would never agree that leaving it up to chance is what they're doing.

They're as good as saying everything that happens is God's will, possibly one of the most annoying beliefs of all time.

And they are apparently blissfully deaf to the notion of indirect divine intervention. The idea that God helps through actors and agents and dare I say, technology and science. God's help can apparently only be a literal and direct abra-cadabra, poof the disease is gone.
