If the economy keeps improving, he keeps slam dunking on foreign policy, and the Dems keep pushing farther and farther left... yep

I think all those things are gonna keep happening 🤔...

so yeah, I expect him to be re-elected

Dems can go left. They just need to drop the bullshit and focus on issue that matter. Things like single payer healthcare are popular enough.

"popular enough" but the bullshit is becoming the left. And the 32 trillion expense over 10 years is the kinda price tag that is quite heft considering our expenditures this year were a bit over 4 trillion. A huge part of that Medicare/Medicaid.

Then what happens to innovation? What happens when the necessary increase to demand creates a increase to price? Either you let it happen and costs balloon further, or you mandate a price and parts of an already in short supply workforce leave. Thus causing an increase to price, a drop in quality, and an increase to wait times.

Single-payer healthcare is as appealing as any other handout, until you start to see the results. "Muh happiness questionnaire's" 😂😂

Are you satisfied with your service? Well shit, you are just getting it, why complain?
But hey its ok, just go pay 900 bucks for a physical at a private practice if you don't wanna wait in triage for hours and hours 😂

>Operating under triage principles at anything other than an emergency care facility under times of extreme intake
>good medical system

whew

I actually totally agree with you...

Their just no way Trump is losing. The Democrats are lost and there just can't focus on anything positive... They also has absolutely no one worth mentioning to run against Trump...

I see this coming 2020 election an pretty easy win for Trump....

They're so hyperfocused on Trump they dont realize Trump, despite his character flaws, isnt really off the deep end 🤔. His priority was #MAGA, and he's gone about making that happen.

"HE'S TOTES HITLER"

If he was death would have happened already. Where's Trumps Night of the Long Knives? 🤔😂

Facist my ass, Facism is inherently socialistic, and the right isnt pushing socialism 🤔, or submission to the state for that matter.

Yup, all these policies would ruin the US. Practically speaking they seek to destroy the country. And people are waking up to that, hence his continuously rising approval rating, at least in part 🤔

Lol, he is using that to his advantage. He comes out, rants on twitter, or in speech. Media takes the bait and paints it as evil, meanwhile actual policy takes a direction that is wholly beneficial to the US as a whole and reasserts its dominance in the global heirarchy.

In the recent briefing of Congress by Pompeo this was higblighted'

"How do we tell what the President says that is speech, how do we tell what he says is policy?"

Pompeo- "You look at the policy..."

So simple but it absolutely highlighted the delusion of the left right now, and how desperate they are to paint him as terrible. They've hit the point where they have foregone the wisdom of "actions speak louder than words"

But that's not surprising considering equating speech with physical violence has been a tree theyve been barking up for awhile now(i.e. microagressions and hate speech)

We're in an almost-historically long run of economic growth right now, and I doubt it's sustainable. Recessions happen about once every ten years or sooner, and it's been about ten years since the last one. Combine that with the fact that middle class incomes have stagnated, and that will kill a lot of enthusiasm for Trump if it happens before the end of 2020 (which is pretty likely). That's especially bad for him since he's already unpopular with a good economy, and since that would provide a strong case to voters of why they need economically left policies to keep them from getting screwed over.

Single-payer is, more or less, a partisan issue at the moment. I would expect it to drive turnout for the left, while not really affecting poll numbers.

"The insanity of the left" is a partisan complaint; I would expect it to drive turnout for the right, while not really affecting poll numbers. Remember that the left also has pretty charged and founded attacks about the insanity of the right--if not founded for you personally, you should at least know they're pretty well founded for a leftist and to an extent for independents as well. As for what independents buy more, I'm sure they find both parties insane, as they have for a while; it's a matter of who they think is more tolerable. I've talked with some independents who hate Trump but like his economics but find his treatment of immigrants intolerable but like his social positions otherwise but (et cetera). I think that if the left doesn't provide an inspiring candidate, many independents just won't vote.

As for the candidates themselves, I don't think we can have a reasonable discussion about that until 2019 when we know the full roster. I don't find any of the current candidates inspiring, but there's still a full year for someone to emerge on the left.

tl;dr I'd cautiously favor Democrats right now, but it's way too soon to tell. Whether economic growth continues and whether the Democrats field a good candidate are important questions that have no answers yet.

"treatment of immigrants intolerable"

Ah yes, getting angry at someone for enforcing laws that ones own party spearheaded. Family seperations was a moral blow, but his approval didn't drop in the midst of it, it kept rising.

Mainly because it highlighted the hypocrisy. Family seperations are wrong, sure. But trafficking is a legitimate concern, illegal immigration poses far more danger to children in terms of death and rape/assault.

Trump listened, ended the policy, and established the middle ground. Dems are choosing to still nit pick over some of those children not being reunited(despite there being reasonable logistic issues with many who have not) and start advocating for abolishment of ICE and open borders.

Ah yes, so virtuous, wanting to incentivize parents to make the choice to put their child in exigent danger. That's not good parenting, that would result in removal of custody for pretty much any citizen with a child under grounds of negligence and endangerment.

The further Dems stray into policies that would effectively ruin the US, the further they'll start to alienate parts of their own base.

Patriotism isnt exclusive to the right 🤔

Theyre not even really putting them first. They'd rather incentivize the choice to put children in exigent danger. Again, family seperations was wrong, but it was reversed, and reversed quick AF.

But the complaints havent stopped, instead its morphing into, "we should just have open borders"

Ah yes. A welfare state with open border and/or no immigration and customs enforcement. How ever could that go wrong and how ever could that feed the human trafficking industry? 🤔

Buddamoose:

If you want to make that a narrative, you're going to need to provide evidence for it. Here is strong evidence that the separations issue was not connected to the rise in his approval rating:
Simply put, a policy unpopular with the overwhelming majority of voters is not going to make one's approval rating rise, generally speaking.
You can throw the idea that it "highlighted hypocrisy" out there, but if you don't have anything backing that, it doesn't even qualify as an argument. Otherwise, this is just an abstracted whataboutism.

We can argue about the demerits of his immigration policies in another thread (though that you think that it's bad parenting to take a chance on a better life rather than a certain suffering is questionable; why do you think undocumented immigrants take such a perilous journey to get here? If I were a parent in that situation, I'd choose the same way), but I think the effects of family separation clearly are not what you think they were.

The other confusion you seem to have is conflation of progressives and the Democratic party. "Abolish ICE" is coming from the most liberal states in the Union--California and New York, for instance. There are liberals in other states. It would be akin to describing the Republican party by the actions of Mississippi, when the most popular Republican governor in the country is in Massachusetts! Obviously the Republican party as a whole isn't as liberal as Baker, but if you describe either party at its most liberal or conservative, you're going to create a picture that is alien to reality. There hasn't been much polling done on this; all I could find was this, at the height of Trump's family separation policy crisis https://www.politico.com/story/2018/07/11/immigration-ice-abolish-poll-708703
Given the context of the poll, the support is probably lower now than it was then. I'll grant you that it gives a plurality of support to pro-abolish Democrats, but it also shows how divisive the issue is, and therefore probably too politically toxic for any Democrat to touch in the primaries and 2020.

His argument isn't anything close to whataboutism. It's about the lesser of 2 evils.

This is an apples/oranges comparison. The media has shown far fewer extreme candidates on the right jockeying for a leadership position in the party than candidates on the left. With the overwhelming party bias of the media, if there was smoke, you can be sure they would find the fire.

If you're saying he said that about family separations, I could grant that as an interpretation of what he said, though that's a bad argument and still doesn't support his "highlighted hypocrisy" argument.

I never said his rise was because of that, it was in spite of it. Hence it was a moral blow, BUT, his approval rating kept rising.

How does it feel knowing you type all that, over something that wasn't said?

Im sorry, abolish ice is being pushed by who again? Pelosi and the like have been warning against it, but the recent NetRoot conference highlighted how little that advice was heeded. Instead the faces of the party like Warren, Harris, Waters, Booker, continue to bark up that tree 🤔.

What other candidates are appearing as front runners for the candidacy? Sanders? He struck out on endorsements in the recent spat of primaries and special elections. The moderate Dems did good on that, they're still failing on providing a candidate or candidates to balance this far left push being espoused by the aforementioned.

Warren is the closest, but she's never gonna live down the whole Native American fiasco 😂

>why do you think undocumented immigrants take such a perilous journey to get here? If I were a parent in that situation, I'd choose the same way...

As a parent I think this is a ridiculous statement. There are plenty of safe places to live south of California, but the reason "Refugees" don't go there is because that is not where the money is. A bank robber makes a perilous journey to rob banks because that's where the money is. There is nothing noble what these parents are doing to their kids. Every one of these parents could have chosen to live in a safer place.

Every country south of California with the exception of Columbia, Venezuela, and of course Mexico ranks safer than the United States. Refugees are not travelling thousands of miles for safety. They want free stuff. A parent that puts their child in danger to get free stuff should have their kids confiscated.
