Imagine being Bill Gates right now.
You spend 30 years of your life and $50 billion of your own dollars supporting humanitarian causes. You directly save hundreds of thousands of lives in South East Asia by providing anti malaria netting to half of a continent, you drop infant mortality rates throughout the entire developing world by funding vaccine programs including vaccinating 40,000,000 children for polio, and, amongst a plethora of philanthropic endeavors, you fund free educational platforms like Khan Academy so people can have free access to high quality education.
Then after donating half of your wealth to charity and pledging 90% of the remainder to charity in your will..
Arguably doing more to better life on earth for humanity than any other human being to ever live.
You then hop on the internet only to find a million scientifically illiterate fucking imbeciles that are using the very computers you pretty much invented in the first place to call you a child murdering arch villian antichrist because they watched a YouTube video made by some other yokel with the comprehension of a fucking potato.

Let's just ignore all the African kids he killed with his vaccine experiments.

But who cares right? Cause the WHO is above scrutiny apparently.

Charity is simply manifested ego. Gates decides how that money is spent, not the world.

@Greyparrot

The “academic review” linked to in Owens’s tweet is titled “Accountability of International NGOs: Human Rights Violations in Healthcare Provision in Developing Countries and the Effectiveness of Current Measures” and is authored by Sharmeen Ahmed, who was at the time the a student at the Golden Gate University School of Law. The article was published by The Annual Survey of International & Comparative Law, a journal published by Golden Gate students and faculty
The article’s introduction reads: “Critics have shared concerns on the Gates Foundation and potential policies on population control.” The basis for these “population control” concerns is a TED talk Bill Gates gave in 2010, which featured a comment that was taken out of context and has been debunked by fact-checking website Snopes. Gates explained that his approach to vaccines is based on data indicating a declining death rate leads to a declining birth rate. In countries where childhood mortality is high, Gates wrote in a Gates Foundation letter, “parents choose to have enough kids to give them a high chance that several will survive to support them as they grow old. As the number of kids who survive to adulthood goes up, parents can achieve this goal without having as many children. … When health improves, people have smaller families and the government has more resources per person, so improving nutrition and education becomes much easier.” Vaccines lower childhood mortality rates, and thus reduce population growth, but not in the malevolent way Gates’ 2010 comments were interpreted by his critics.
i dont beleive it

2.of course gates can determine what he can do with his money, were conservatives after all, we should be championing this as a free market incentive

a free market incentive

It's not a free market initiative if it's a charity controlled by one man's ego. Actual free market "charity" would be block payments to all people on the planet.

I think you don't understand what a block grant is. It's a set amount of money given per person. Think of Yang's UBI.

He disparagingly remarks in post 3 "Gates decides how that money is spent, not the world." We see by looking at the context of the post he is responding to that when GP says "that money" in post 3 he is referring to Gates' own personal money.

He says in post 5 that "charity controlled by one man's ego" (in other words Bill Gates choosing what to do with his own money) is "not a free market initiative" and that Bill Gates' money should instead be used to "give block payments to all people on the planet"

Later he goes into more detail regarding this proposed redistribution of wealth in post 8 saying "It's a set amount of money given per person [by Bill Gates]. Think of Yang's UBI."

In other words that Gates should not choose which charities and causes receive his patronage but instead that any wealth he wishes to part with should fund a UBI where the recipients of the checks so funded choose how that money is spent.

So, do you think the portion you quoted in 19 is an inaccurate summary of GPs statements? Because when I prompted GP himself numerous times to say whether it was inaccurate he did not do so.

wow, you have a big imagination, you implied and assumed what he was thinking rather than reading the words right in front of you.

he actually said "|Charity is simply manifested ego. Gates decides how that money is spent, not the world."  I can see both of those statements as being true, without adding anything additional that was not said.

people donate for a variety of reasons, I shouldn't have assumed  you'd know this.  they funnel money like the almost defunct Clinton foundation, tax right offs and yes even egos.  look at what a good person I am for my charity.

wouldn't true charity be donating money and allowing people who know more use it to the most good?

do you know if that money was used to produce food, water etc that it would have saved more lives for a longer period of time then the vaccines?  Vaccines are a good thing for those that get them, but once that money is gone, then what?  I've never looked at the stats but how many die from lack of vaccine vs starving or something else preventable.  That's how I look at it anyway.

you think he should denounce your assumptions and attacks?  wow talk about ego lol  can't blame him for ignoring that b.s.

So you are saying here "there is a more efficient way that money could have done more good".

GP would agree with you on that, though he would prefer it be diverted to fund a UBI check. Do you think it should be diverted in some way or do you think Billy should do what he wants with it because it is his money?

I asked that question, I never said that, clearly you can't help yourself and G.P. was correct to ignore you, as shall I.  It's not possible to have a normal conversation when you constantly and incorrectly assume, claim things said that weren't.  have a nice life.

we do have a problem but it is mostly bezos the issue and soros, bezos is a terrible person and for some reason us conservatives love him, we defend amazon from cheating the middle class(this is true, not something bernie made up)

gates has dedicated his welath to good, soros, bezos and toehrs have not

gates made computers accesible to the public, he is truly a world changer for the good-bezoz puts retail chains out of business and deliberately hires people to lower their taxesm through loopholes costing the working class
