from Quora

Given that Republicans lost the popular vote in seven of the last eight Presidential elections, and that Trump never polled above 50%, why doesn't the GOP realise that Trump 2024 or a Trump endorsed candidate is a almost certainly a losing ticket?

The current iteration of the Republican Party has relied on a shrinking base of rural white voters since Nixon's Southern Strategy back in the late 1960s. It's been kept afloat by gerrymandering, voter suppression and the Electoral College ever since.
Today even all that may not be enough. Deep red states like Georgia and Arizona have already turned blue. Without those two states the Republican advantage in the Senate and Electoral College have vanished.
If only the Republican Party had a real leader who could come up with actual ideas and policies that might make people's lives better. Maybe then they could expand their base to minorities and college educated suburbanites. Instead they choose to cling to Trump since he brings 80% of the shrinking Republican base with him. It's clearly a losing strategy which is in some ways a shame. For Trump to cause the Republican Party to descend into the party of white victimhood and wacky conspiracy theories is definitely bad for America. That's the choice they have decided to make. Good luck with that.

Republicans were forced to give up on strategy when they elected Trump.  There is no party apparatus with majority influence within the party anymore.  Jan 6 demonstrated quite aptly that  if the Republican party leadership including the Vice President, the Senate Majority Leader, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court want one thing but Donald Trump wants the opposite, then the Republican Party is doing what Trump says and will harass, denigrate, assault any Republicans who stand in Trump's way.

Trump's not really a party strategy kind of guy.  He's already declared that he'll run candidates against any Republican who offends him so he cares less whether Republicans return to power in 2022 than making sure he's still in command by 2023.  The whole plan of Republicans today seems to be to find ways to keep black people from voting without actually saying that black people can't vote.  Georgia actually just voted its electoral board the power to overturn elections without having to show cause.  Any founding father would call that tyranny.  It's as if Republicans have forgotten what America means.

Because in their minds they won, so why change?

The only problem are all those pesky minority counties where all the cheating was going on, and by cheating I of course mean voting, so let’s pass over 250 bills to stop that.

Every well off nation is bound to fail. It just sucks that lefties in my generation don’t know their history and how various nations that stood at the top of the hierarchy failed.

It’s ok, when the time comes, I’ll be ready, while they’ll be crying because they’re offended

@Dr.Franklin
What's up Doc.

But not stupid, rich, old "White (Orange) Males"

Is there such a candidate as a slightly swarthy, gay,  pre-retirement, moderately well off,  philanthropic, clever conservative (Box Ticker)....Perhaps not....Those beer swilling, gun toting, carnivorous, backwoodsrealmenandwomen are never going to buy into that one.

So how about just a good old decent ordinary person......Nope wouldn't work.....No one's going to buy into that bullshit, either.

So how about, simply, a rich, old, sensible, white male, conservative.....Who obviously wouldn't be orange, and would also not be over-stressed by that stupid old, counting all the votes rule......Devoted to his childhood sweetheart of a wife (Skeleton-less Cupboard)....Sort of Bidenesque really, but perhaps in their 50's......Also too boring perhaps.

How about Bugs Bunny Doc?......Everyone loves Bugs Bunny don't they?

All except those conservative Mickey's That is.

How about a Woman then......Dear oh dear, should they even be allowed to vote Doc?

Why can't you just depend on the government like a good soldier?

I hope you took every dime of the stimulus money and put it away in cryptocurrency where the government can't touch when you decide to move.

Thank you.

I always try to note sensibly.

You obviously understood the metaphorical cynicism that I noted in my post.

During Nazi Germany this exact thing happened (the opposite way around) and it was proven what the Left stands for when the Far-Right take the reigns. Similar things happened in South Africa during Apartheid and other such scenarios elsewhere. The Left Wing do indeed harbour illegal immigrants or any ethnicity deemed 'unworthy of equal citizenship and rights' when the Right Wing begin/began to brutalise them.

Until the immigrants/foreigners are being brutalised, the risk vs reward of doing so isn't generally worth it, since it is indeed a technical crime.
