..." 11 July 2024 - According to the World Population Prospects 2024: Summary of Results published today, it is expected that the world’s population will peak in the mid-2080s, growing over the next sixty years from 8.2 billion people in 2024 to around 10.3 billion in the mid-2080s, and then will return to around 10.2 billion by the end of the century. The size of the world’s population in 2100 is now expected to be six per cent lower—or 700 million fewer—than anticipated a decade ago. "...

Population growth could grind to a halt by 2050, before decreasing to as little as 6 billion humans on Earth in 2100, a new analysis of birth trends has revealed.

The study, commissioned by the nonprofit organization The Club of Rome, predicts that if current trends continue, the world's population, which is currently 7.96 billion , will peak at 8.6 billion in the middle of the century before declining by nearly 2 billion before the century's end.

The forecast is both good and bad news for humanity: A plummeting human population will slightly alleviate Earth's environmental problems, but it is far from being the most important factor in solving them.

Chickens lay more eggs that can be fertilized than a woman.

Old age can get expensive.

Fortunately in Wales we (currently) are provided with free health care and free prescription medicines.

Nonetheless it is always wise to put a bit away for the future...Money that is.

While it's common to hear that people in Wales live longer, that's not quite accurate. In 2021-2023, life expectancy at birth in Wales was 78.1 years for males and 82.0 years for females. This is slightly lower than England, which had a life expectancy of 79.1 years for males and 83.0 years for females. Overall, life expectancy in England and Wales has been decreasing slightly since 2017-2019, and the rate of increase in life expectancy has slowed since around 2011.

Thanks for the information.

Swings and roundabouts.

And then the helter-skelter.

I think that an influx of migrant workers is perhaps a contributory factor. They have a lesser regard for cigarette and dietary health warnings, and exercise little.

I also think that there has been a decline in the efficiency of health services.

There are a raft of other possible contributory factors.

Though I would suggest that an overall decrease and a slower increase are somewhat contradictory.

And beyond 80 in reasonable condition is a tough call...Beyond 83, even tougher...Beyond that................

Hmmmmmm.

It's not really about facts, buy more about the somewhat contradictory statement.

Something either increases, decreases or stays the same.

We do not have an over-population issue, even at +8B of us. Considering that Earth grants 149M km^2 of landmass of variable types, most of which are hospitable to man, we are more plagued by poor land management and population clustering than by loss of resources,  We could, theoretically, gather every human on Earth together to live only on what is 37% of our total landmass: arable/crop/grazing land, and leave all other types void of humanity, and accommodate 0.006 km^2 for each person, adult and child. That's 1.5 acres each for Brits and Yanks. So, what over-population? We have sufficient resources, and to spare if they are properly used. Even at 10 billion, we would still have over 1 acre, each, and still not populate any land but the 37% noted.

I think many mothers from our time said that. I know mine did.

She and my aunt and uncle would also say ...clean your plate, dont waste your food, eat all of it, cause there are people in the world who dont have food... or something like that.  I think it was also they and the country was poor when they were young. So food was not as easy to come by in those days.

Go back even further in history and in many places food was even more scarce for most of humanity. So on and so on as we go further back.

I think my mother and father encouraged me to overeat when going out to a diner to buy a sit down meal of steak sandwich or shrimp. Then on way home I would lay in back seat and groan from overeating.

After WW2, there began a prosperity in USA --if not also Europe-- and world wide to whatever degree. It has been a golden age of a privileged life  --especially whites--, altho, most of humanity has seen prosperity grow since WW2.

Sure, humanity can keep eating away at our environmental resources, and pollute our atmosphere, water and Earth along the way to greater riches of a more and more golden life of privilege.  At what costs, might the native american indian's say?

Maybe salt reactor nukes will extend the privileged golden age to become a diamond age.

Who has the money/gold makes the rules is golden rule. Is their a diamond/money rule?

All-for-one and one-for-all spirituality in humanities future or other? I suppose there exist various futuristic sci-fi scenarios out there for years, and more to come.

Your old folks sound very much like mine did.

It irks me to see people over order and waste food in restaurants.

Eyes bigger than their bellies, as my Mum used to say.

The program I saw on French was lady saying never eat everything on the plate they serve you. Just some of everything.

That was in some reply to some question she was asked. Probably about health or trim French people. I dunno

Expectations are differently taught I suppose.

Perhaps to some extent depending upon what latitude ones physiology is attuned to, in relation to metabolic demands.

I always find it fascinating that morbidly obese people don't seem to recognise and respond to their situation...Mind is seemingly unable to influence subconscious demands...An addiction I suppose.

But I will take everything I didn't eat in a box, and eat it later.

Eat sensibly exercise more. Simple.

Or just move more.

I think that people who do the new fat pill thing will just create another addiction.

It won't encourage them to lead healthier lives.

Same with the vape craze.

Just an alternative chemical addiction.
