Well, Robert Prevost was elected Pope, the first yankee pontiff.

Any comment?

A random dice roll would vote in a better pope.

This is political choice. I doubt he is even catholic. Judge by his appearance. Pope has Jewish nose.

We know the Catholic Church is more political than religious.

Do you think this church is looking for a close relationship with the United States or it's just a coincidence that has nothing to do with that?

Robert Prevost was elected Pope, the first yankee pontiff. To thwart Trump’s ambition to be Pope.

I was wondering how long it would take this string to mention a relation to Trump effect. Democrats are paranoid; Republicans are prematurely efactulating. Glad I'm an Indie.

Didn't Trump say he wanted the USA to buy the Vatican?

A moderately conservative American pope who'll most likely be the face of global Catholicism until the early 2040s? Heck yeah.

Pope Leo XIV is not a coincidence.

The last Pope Leo spoke out against americanism. freemasonry, the effects of evangelism, etc.

Currently Brazil is 20% Protestant. Evangelicals in America are converting to Catholicism but are bringing their ideas in. We need a Pope to who is going to return a sense of Catholic mystery, superstition, culture, aboveness over social/worldly affairs. If he does so I would be very pleased, but we shall see.

Friendly reminder that Orthobros are a small internet subculture and not reflective of real world demographic trends.

I'm watching in the TV an analysis about the new Pope and there are some details about him that draw powerfully my attention.

He is 69, but he spent 40 years living in Peru, South America. So, that makes only 29 years spent in his native country. In fact, when I heard his first speech as Pope he didn't mention anything about the US but rather he did greet a city of Peru where he stayed the most time in his life.

Another interesting fact is that he nationalized peruvian and his second last name is Martinez (a very common hispanic last name), meaning that he has hispanic roots. So, the ties to Latinamerica is very strong. I would say he's more hispanic than yankee.

I don't know if Trump will like that. I'm under the impression that this Pope will scold the child Trump.

Trump would have made an offer if he was elected pope. Now he might just invade it like all the other countries he desires.

He apparently has Spanish, Italian, and French roots. He may or may not have Native roots. This is always something to look out for when a person is from Central or South America. They say 25% of Perú “identifies” as indigenous. His surname is French. It is pronounced Pree-voh. I am surprised they are all calling him Pre-vost. Do people no longer have exposure to French? What do they teach in schools? I am 25, and they taught French in my school.

Yep, and he speaks Spanish almost perfectly as we could hear from his first speech. He didn't use English so this says a lot about how his pontificate will be.

Again, it seems that he was put there to be a counterbalance to Trump and his abuse against the inmigrants.

They saw how “popular” Francis was with the naysayers and want it to continue, without relenting on matters of abortion and marriage between man and woman. He is another pope from Latin America; he is the successor who also sympathizes with migrants.

A pope from Latin America, who was born in the melting pot of Chicago, is likely to be quite liberal in matters of country and race. He has probably seen ghetto types in Chicago, and impoverished Peruvians. His parents were immigrants. Francis saw the same in Buenos Aires. It's clever…choose a cardinal similar to Pope Francis, but make him more orthodox and traditional, and everyone should be happy. I believe Francis displeased the Catholic Church with his lack of traditionalism and casual, all too human presentation. They need someone who will be nice to migrants and who will be the Holy Father. The former is a compromise the Catholic Church can afford to make.

He seems to be the continuation but it's not so. From what I heard, he was also elected to mediate between conservatives and liberals in the church. So, he's actually moderate and very good to reach agreements. This is important because the Catholic church is divided to the point that people are talking about a schism.

Leo certainly agreed with Francis on many topics but not on everything. We'll see how he gets on in his new position.
