Lannan13 - Suicide 20s
Ajab - possibly health related death but young, I presume mid 20s.
Bladerunner - car accident 30s

We must remember them. We never know who else died and just stopped posting.

Many will perish if the community stays scathing and unwelcoming. We can form a community that dares not disrespect each other for they are tamed and loving or we can be a community freedom-first abusers.

It really is a dichotomy. Let us choose the righteous path.

Generally 'does seem such a waste of life and potential, when I hear of someone's death.

I don't think freedom on DART is unlimited, but the amount of freedom we have, 'is something I value.
Societies often have taboos,
Having no one to speak them too, can hurt,
Having no way to question them, can impede progress in society.

The community here is abusive.

It has to change. We must be a community not a warzone of bullies cackling at the agony of other users.

This begins with a taming process.

You literally saw a person tell you, a Jew, that the Holocaust was deserved.

My reports are the primary if not only reason that user got banned.

It was their prerogative. A religious explanation was offered for the plight of the Jews, who have rebelled against God many times.

My reports are the primary if not only reason that user got banned.
Ok. I would not like to see anyone here banned. We all offer something.

It's actually possible to value freedom and be respectful. We don't have to turn into Nazi Germany and have control issues to have respect be a thing. This is a silly dichotomy

That sort of anti freedom perspective always ends up in Nazi Germany, North Korea current Venezuela etc. It is never different and in every society that anti freedom initiatives like that occur than it always turns into those things. There is zero exceptions to that rule. Now that you know there is zero exceptions to that rule, you know precisely what you are advocating for, so cut it out

Nope.

It is in fact the case that almoat all violent revolutions that wind up like Nazi Germany began with people wanting freedom and demonising an oppressor rather than focusing on the endgame they get sucked into revenge on the elites instead and suddenly...

Stalin rises.
Hitler rises.
Mao Rises.

You get the idea.

So even though anti freedom initiatives always end bad you think the problem is the leaders being focused on revenge and if they focused on other stuff than maybe just maybe it would end up different despite all historical evidence to the contrary and the more free modern societies being the most just and economically advantages in modern times.

Well I would say thank God we have people like you who do not divide the world into victim and bullies and who would never seek to abuse your power to go after oppressors.

Hopefully the next Hitler that you will inevitably support because those types hate freedom will also be focused on their utopia and their attacks on freedom won't be motivated by revenge but be motivated by altruism which humans are really fucking good at.

I remember another guy. A soldier or veteran who had Sword Art Online stuff on his profile, and I think he was in Iraq. Don't remember what his username was, but I know one of his relatives logged onto his account to tell us what happened to him.

Still not on board with stifling free speech, though. Lannan might've possibly had one bully (some minor user) but otherwise there's no reason to think anything he experienced on DDO was what pushed him over the edge (IIRC he'd been inactive on DDO for some time prior to it happening). Even if it did, rules against bullying and freedom to express political opinions are by no means incompatible.

I haven’t been able to 100% verify this but I believe RoyLatham has died too, a few years back. He was in his 70s so lived a full life, but still RIP.

I entirely agree. I find that people who express constant dissatisfaction with one factor in life may be dissatisfied and driven to a drastic solution are generally dissatisfied with every factor of their lives. Such do exist. In my own case, I'm generally a very happy guy with my life circumstances, but, right now I'm not feeling that friendly with Barney, but we have enjoyed a long relationship here in D.A. , and I fully expect we will settle this issue amicably. Just a disagreement on voting rule interpretation by degree.

Imo converting changed my mind on may issues and helped me realise why I was anti liberal before on other issues.

You need religion to be fully socially conservative imo.
