Why do people have desire to be seen as good?

I dont understand. I would never call myself a good person.

Yet I see others constantly claiming they are good persons. I dont want to be good. I want to be cool.

Maybe I am a horrible person, but at least I dont lie about it by claiming to be good.

I just dont have any emotional desire to be seen as good. Being true you is much better than lying and pretending to be good. Now, sometimes I do pretend to be good, but that is just a mask. It gets boring quickly. I dont even like to wear mask which presents me as good.

I really like making people upset and angry. I dont want for them to see me as good.

If I was good, what would I even have in life? So boring!

This post doesn’t make you a bad person. This makes you amoral. 
Chaotic Neutral. 

And even though you reject the idea of being a good person. From time to time, you demonstrate that you have a strong conscience. And you have good qualities which are obvious, although you deny them. 

That won’t just disappear just because you pretend it doesn’t exist.

They desire to be seen as good because God put that desire in their soul partly.

The other part is it is a more defensively positioned reputation to have. Usually people like to be safe.

You might as well ask why people want to be seen as having value, I suppose. Goodness is a common social value, along with strength, attractiveness, etc.

That's in general.

Personally I want to be seen as good because I know what it's like to experience cruelty and indifference, and I don't want people to perceive me as purveyors of those things -- to see me the way I saw my abusers. I want to be seen as their antithesis, in fact.

I know that given the right conditions, everyone will do at least some bad things. And yes, everyone I knew in life has betrayed me at some point.
