Victory! A dangerous leader has been killed! Alas, the Iranian government will take revenge, carrying out the law of Quran. This is a time to rejoice! No war will happen. A large war won’t spew, and people are overreacting. The Demi-god was taken down, and Trump is the true power god. The posture is strong and we can defeat them. He will not go to war. Iranian is evil. Conservatives win

No. The US just went and murdered an Iranian government official.

This is literally the kind of thing that starts international wars. But Trump doesn't give a crap. He treated a 2,500 year old sovereign country as though the lives of its citizens are cheap, as though Iranians can be put down like dogs if the US simply labels them as terrorists first.
This man was not a criminal. For 21 years he was following the orders of his government, which is not at war with the US and which does not seem to be responsible for major war crimes in the 21st century. When the US does morally objectionable stuff, we do not treat our foreign policy officials as war criminals. Soleimani was in that same position, except for "the other side".

War will not happen. People are overreacting. You also focusing too much on Iran. Iran will get defused by a larger and powerful army. The move by Trump was not the smartest, but Quassim was no saint. Iran also had many micro aggressions before this

Your justifications and zealous Americanisms seem to be a disguise for an underlying anxiety.

I would say bad move Donald.

Though I doubt that it was Donald's decision, but rather the decision of those that pull his strings.

And also those outside influences, that pull U.S. foreign policy strings.

And Iran has some new big tough allies, as the U.S. spreads it's self righteousness more and more thinly around the world.

Keep an eye out for those hypersonics Uncle Sam!

A war certainly wont break out but the odds of other events taking place that lead to a war possibly breaking out just jumped, and THATS the concerning thing here..... The top Iranian general gets hit with a drone strike, Iran gives more funding to Hezbollah or targets US diplomats in the Middle East in retaliation, a handful of high ranking US diplomats are killed or maybe even taken hostage. Had we done this to a North Korean General a war probably would have broken out, we're just fortunate that Iran is about two tiers more sensible than NK otherwise the shit would have really hit the fan.

Besides, Iran is currently trying to suppress a massive swelling of population protests within their own country due to economic stagnation. If we're lucky, the regime will collapse on its own without us having to even lift a finger about it. Executing their generals via drone strikes is wholly unnecessary with no immediate short term or long term benefits to anyone

I don’t think it was the right move to do, but it certainly doesn’t lead to war. War takes various aggressions by different countries to start up. This will not lead to a war, but increasing tensions. It isn’t something we can’t handle.

The issue is not that Iran will declare war on america tomorrow. In that sense you are correct, this will not cause a war.

But what will happen is that Iran is going to retaliate. They will bomb an american base, close the straights of Hormuz (cutting off the world's oil supply) or something like that. At that point Trump will retaliate further and the violence will escalate until a war breaks out.

Trump almost caused a war last year when he ordered an attack on an Iranian base that would have killed dozens or hundreds of people. He only called it off at the last minute. So we know that he is willing to order the military to do things that will trigger a war.

Add to this that the Iraqi government told the US like a week ago to stop carrying out bombings in their country and the situation becomes even more difficult. America is carrying out assassinations in a country where they have been ordered to stop bombing. This sort of provocation is likely to cause more Iraqi's to see Iran as their ally rather than america which will make the situation even worse.

if anything good came out of this, it's that we took out a potential Putinesque figure.

Let's say the aging Ayatollah dies tomorrow without an appointed successor, and Iran has to contemplate what its government is going to look like going forward. They'd have three options:

1. Dissolve into an array of petty ethnostates (improbable and undesirable)
2. Become a peaceful democracy that isn't trying to butt-rape the US and its allies
3. See power consolidated under a charismatic strongman type, presumably from the intelligence or national security apparatus of the former regime

Soleimani's death makes Option #3 seem less likely now, since he would've been the most likely candidate in this event.

Sure, sure. Question for you regarding your quote though...

Iranian is evil. Conservatives win

The obvious implication here is that the people who like blue ties all like Iran for some reason. Do you have any actual cause for making this implication or is it just classic "Red ties don't like blue ties and we also don't like Iran so therefore Iran and blue ties must both like each other herp-dee-derp"?

I'm guessing he didn't mean it this way, but he has a point. The US has turned an Iranian conservative into a martyr. This will likely massively increase the power of the Iranian conservatives which will certainly lead to more attacks against america.

So Wooo!! congratulations american conservatives, you have helped to fuel terrorism by carrying out terrorist attacks in Iraq!!

Gutsy move to call Iran's bluff.

I wonder if this was more as a signal to NK than anything that had to do with Iran?

How many innocent people were killed when US invaded Iraq? How many innocents  was this general responsible for?

Are we going into another unnecessary middle-east war where many innocents will not only be killed, but only makes more of a middle-east mess than we have already.?

This is a tit-for-tat, leaves the whole world blind policy of Trump showing Iran, USA peoples  ---and the world---   how large his private parts relative to rest of the world powers.

Pence and evangelicals believe Trump is the chosen one.  Can you believe this mythological nonsense is ocrruring in 2020?

Trump respects Kim Ung Pooh because he actually has nuclear weapons  ---big power like him---  He does not respect Iran, because they do not yet have nuclear weapons  ---irrelevant nobodies--- that he will lead the world in stomping like an deadly spider, that, will leave many humans blind, dead, cruelly maimed etc.

And dont forget, we used one of the most sophiscated cyber-attacks ever  on Irans nuclear processing systems, and now Iran has had years to reverse engineer that code to use against USA.

As far as I can tell we mostly agree. This massive escalation will almost certainly lead to counter attacks that could very easily lead to another US invasion of a middle eastern country. This would be a horrible thing.

I also agree that the US government thinks Iran is weak and taking them out would be no problem. They thought the same about Iraq, and they were mostly right. They never stopped to think about what would happen if they did that. Thus we got never ending chaos and death. Although Iran could likely cause much more damage than the Iraqi army, but that is kind of a side note.

Gutsy move to call Iran's bluff.
What bluff? They accused Iran of doing something that militia groups in Iraq did. They then carried out a terrorist attack in a country that ordered them to stop bombing in(Iraq). This is a catastrophic decision that will have very serious consequences.

I wonder if this was more as a signal to NK than anything that had to do with Iran?
If so, it was incredibly stupid. This just further proves that the US doesn't respect anyone without nuclear weapons. The US government believes they have the right and authority to murder anyone, anywhere, at any time, no matter who objects to it. The only way to prevent them from murdering you is if you have the ability to nuke them. It will only convince more people that the only way to get america to treat you with respect is to have nuclear weapons.
