Ok so all animals are basically "evolved" ( or designed, your choice) to kill to eat and survive. It's either plants or other animals or both, they are all living creatures, with varying amounts of pain reception, consciousness etc. Even if a creature survives on things such as milk, honey, fallen fruit or nuts, or even sunlight, they(I admit, we) are all really just variations of vampires, living off of the life force of others. There is no getting around this that I can think of. I've thought about this before, and it used to really bother me. But I don't know now. If there is really only one universal creature(everything, every being) and one original life source, which I believe is probably true, then is it really "bad"? What other way could there be?

There is definitely a human standard for what is preferable mostly based on our need for community.

We are forced to live together and isolation can have pronounced and permanent effects on mental health.

Even if nothing is real and nothing matters we may as well try to be nice to each other and live our best lives. What else did you have going on today?

I think too much and therefore I worry about things unduly.

It's an evolved specialism.

A side effect of ....I think a lot and therefore I learn how to do things.

Preordained?....Maybe.

I appreciate your admission that plants and animals, both on the food chain, may suffer premature death on the basis of being food for other life forms higher on the food chain.  The claim by vegans that plants are satisfactory to eat ignores this admission, even if plants do not suffer pain in the death process, which I'm not convinced is the case. I just don't know. However, eat, we must and all lifeforms, whether by direct cause of death, or by merely taking advantage of the fact of death [plants do that] of other lifeforms, must consume to survive. Being a fact of life [literally], I find the argument immaterial to debate, or we [all lifeforms] would not consume anything, and would die for the lack.

I was once in a situation in a Thai jungle in which I became aware that I was no longer at the top of the food chain. That was a very defining realization, and it altered my feeling of being a superior animal. Yet, I continue to be an appreciative omnivore. To vegans, I say, "Eat your rice [which emits more methane into the atmosphere than do cows], but leave my steak alone."
