I've been asked a few times to add a new category to the forum - History.

From my side, it's a matter of 10 mins, but I wonder if there's any reason why it shouldn't be done?

Options:
  1. Refuse to add the category and we all take a hiatus in protest.
  2. Add the category, forget about any reason not to and the rest is history.

I'm not really for or against it myself, but,
History looks to have the smallest number of posts on DDO.

If people 'really wanted to discuss history on this site,
Why wouldn't the technology of cavalry be posted in the Technology section,
Economic methods tried in the past be posted in Economics,
Different interactions between nations be placed in society,
Mythology in Religion,
Past political systems in Politics,
Ancient art be placed in Artistic Expressions.
Famous generals and soldiers under People,
Battles in Miscellaneous.

If someone wants or wanted to post about history, no reason they can't in the sections that already exist.

My favorite topic so a big fat YES.

If you want to retain the same number of headings, you could coalesce ECONOMICS and EDUCATION (neither very popular) under a more inclusive PUBLIC POLICY heading.

I also assume that everyone has been bugging you to create the feature where the voting period can be overridden by mods, in the situation where a debater has forfeited the debate and no one can be bothered waiting 100 days for the "voting" to end.

Are you talking about mobile devices? Coz we have pagination on top of the page on desktops.

All I really want to see is for the categories to be alphabetized, and conceptually de-duplicated.  

There is too much conceptual overlap in the existing categories and the fact that they're not alpha-ordered is a source of immense frustration.  Very un-user friendly.
