It was a glorious victory for the US and we should celebrate it. It was another victory against the radical islamists. We only lost 4,000 men. Far less than World War 2. The war ended when President Trump and the Taliban signed  a peace deal in 2020 and caused a ceasefire. Just like we wanted. It was truly peace through strength as President Donald Trump put it.

In 2021, the Second Afghanistan War began, but the US was not part of it to the exception of defending the embassy. Eventually the Taliban won, but we did not lose because were not part of this war. Being the nice country that we are, we helped some Afghans leave.

From my perspective here is some of what has changed.  Our police departments have been adopting different equipment, some of which is supplied directly from the military surplus.  Our federal government is not trusted by it's people.  It also has less capacity to react then it once did due to large amounts of debt.  Some people feel that the public has lost ground on it's right to privacy.  During the Bush and Obama administrations industry giants replaced some of our oil supply with corn based ethanol, and the North American continent gained much assurance following the advent of fracking.  There has been a massive migration as a result of these conflicts, which will have lasting impacts on a number of nations.  Due to successful manhunting operations, the organization of Al Qaeda changed and the structure became decentralized and more secretive.  All this time, China has been increasingly prominent on the global stage.  By the end of the Trump administration the calculus changed for whatever reason, to the extent that the puppet state of Afghanistan was no longer worth the cost.

I actually agree with this in some sense.

The Taliban of 2021 August-September has come to genuinely need and want to rule more reasonably and long-term than the Taliban that was trying to battle both other Jihadists and the Afghan Militants for quite a few years now.

This pausing and halting of Jihadists taking over Afghanistan ensured that the group that ended up taking over ended up seeing benefits from being reasonable and negotiating more than their hot-blooded presecessors that no doubt are dead by now.

Accrediting Trump for that is ridiculous though, just right place right time. That imbecile didn't do a thing towards this. He'd have gone back on his deal and made a drama had he been President now.
