Elon Musk recently claimed he would switch from previously voting democrat and vote republican this election claiming the democrats have become the party of divisiveness.

The GOP has no party platform, no policy ideas to actually help Americans and spends all of its energy attacking the left as opposed to providing any serious governing solutions. Their leading candidate for 2024 is still lying daily claiming the democrats stole the 2020 election. Their slogan which was even uttered on the house floor is a euphemism for fuck Joe Biden. The narrative among much of the party base is that democrats are the party of pedophiles, and all the party does is blame Biden for everything, even a baby formula shortage. But this is the party Musk will turn to…

Does anyone agree with him?

In light of Elon Musk's $44 billion Twitter takeover, Black conservatives on social media hailed the South African-born billionaire's move as a feat for African Americans.

The deal was widely praised by the right, which perceived Twitter as exhibiting left-wing bias and censoring conservative voices. Musk has pledged to enshrine free speech on Twitter, which he has dubbed a "digital town square."

However, Black conservatives also began celebrating Musk, who is white, as the first African American to own a social media giant.

"An African American owner of the largest social media company on earth," wrote Lavern Spicer, a Black GOP congressional candidate, around the time the news of a deal emerged. "This is historic."
Elon Musk was born in Pretoria, South Africa to a white South African father and a Canadian mother. He eventually obtained Canadian citizenship through his mother and, after moving to the U.S. by way of Canada, became a naturalized American citizen.

Newsweek could not find any record of the wealthy entrepreneur publicly identifying himself as African American, though that did not stop people in the GOP from applying the designation to him as early as last year.

During a Tucker Carlson Tonight appearance in December, GOP Senate candidate Blake Masters referred to Musk as "our country's richest African American."

This label has now resurfaced, especially among Black Republicans, following Musk's purchase of Twitter. Some references appeared glibber than others.

"Elon Musk is the first African American to own a large social media platform," tweeted Black conservative comedian Terrence K. Williams. "He is one of my favorite African Americans and it's sad to see so many people on the left attacking him during this Historic moment."

"The libs are melting down, now that an African-American owns Twitter," wrote Republican congressional candidate Billy Prempeh.

Musk says a lot of things.  I believe Musk will vote according to self interest before any larger American interest, if at all.

As a rapidly shrinking minority party, the GOP is objectively the more divisive.  Strategically, their only hope for continued relevance is to split the Democratic party into 2 factions.

On December 17, 2020, Gallup polling found that 31% of Americans identified as Democrats, 25% identified as Republican, and 41% as Independent.  Additionally, polling showed that 50% are either "Democrats or Democratic leaners" and 39% are either "Republicans or Republican leaners" when Independents are asked "do you lean more to the Democratic Party or the Republican Party?"

That’s what happens when the economy is essentially shut down to the point where no one is traveling, completely tanking oil demand.

Not sure what this has to do with the conversation.

Guess Democrats better shut down the economy again if they don't want to lose their Oligarchy.

Pretty sure I saw somewhere that CDC was predicting the biggest COVID wave yet.

At least gas will be cheap again.

The GOP isn’t “rapidly shrinking” it actually has a stronger electoral position than the Democratic Party and is finally growing beyond its traditional base of basically only white people. Neither party is going anywhere. The only way it’s totally screwed is if the dems finally flip Texas for good (which might happen) making it almost impossible for a GOP president to win under the current coalitions…but sticking with our current coalitions will make it almost impossible for dems to win the senate.

A dem lock on the presidency and a gop lock on the senate meaning neither party can wait for a trifecta and are forced to compromise might actually end up being good for the country now that I think about it

As we can see from the above, two party politics is divisive. .....You've got your inveterate right and you've got your inveterate left......Who expend most of their energy preaching to the converted, whilst ignoring the silent majority.....The moderates that actually decide the outcome of elections.

It was to allocate 20-30 million in funding to help ease the shortage. Biden used emergency powers (defence production act) anyway.

The Republican criticism of the bill is that it was a blank check to the FDA that would be used for administration and salary and didn’t address the problem at all. I don’t have the time to research who is right or not but don’t you think it’s worth mentioning that they had a specific criticism of the bill and didn’t just vote against it because they’re mean?

From what I’ve read the bill included tighter regulations/inspections. That’s probably why.

"Washington — The House of Representatives passed two bills to address the nationwide baby formula shortage Wednesday night as families continue to face bare shelves across the nation.

One measure would help enable recipients to buy formula by giving the Agriculture secretary the permanent flexibility to waive certain requirements the special supplemental nutrition program for poorer women, infants and children, known as WIC, that limit the brands and quantities of formula that WIC recipients may purchase. The bill would also require that formula manufacturers have contingency plans for protecting against disruptions in supply in the event of a recall. It passed with a large bipartisan majority of 414 to 9.

All nine "no" votes were cast by Republicans: Reps. Andy Biggs, of Arizona; Lauren Boebert, of Colorado; Thomas Massie, of Kentucky; Clay Higgins, of Louisiana; Matt Gaetz, of Florida; Chip Roy, of Texas; Paul Gosar, of Arizona; Louie Gohmert, of Texas and Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia.

A second measure to provide an extra $28 million to the Food and Drug Administration to help get fraudulent formula products off store shelves and boost the part of the workforce focused on formula, as well as FDA inspection staff, also passed, but with just 12 Republicans voting in favor.

Republicans said the plan did not force the FDA to come up with a plan to immediately address the shortage, nor did it force federal agencies to look for formula that could be immediately redirected to American households or use the power of the federal government to move formula around. They also said the FDA already had enough money to deal with the crisis. "

The US manufacturer was shut down in January and has not complied with what it needed to do to open so I'm sure some of the ease on restrictions is so they can start producing again.

I wouldn't be surprised if it included price controls. This administration is  committed to repeating every mistake of the Carter era while dealing with inflation.

This is exactly what makes this so irritating. This isn’t two sides playing the same game. What the democrats are doing doesn’t even compare to the republicans and their base.

It’s so funny how bad of a policy price controls are. I’m no economist but it’s just obvious and has been born out again and again. What’s especially obnoxious in this particular situation is that we aren’t allowed to import baby formula from Europe, which is based on cow milk, whereas American baby formula is basically corn syrup, seed oils, and soy. Just another example in a long list of American food being utterly poison. Drinking corn syrup from infancy lol

The parallels between Carter and Biden are extremely strong. Like Carter Biden was viewed as a cleaner politician to take over after an administration that was viewed as corrupt or out of line. Both barely won because the other side had a strong advantage. Both were dealt a terrible hand but played it even worse.  Trump is no Reagan but I can think of someone who is…
