Description
This is a debate on the overall impact of artificial intelligence on humanity. I will be arguing that AI is more harmful than helpful. My opponent will take the opposing view — that AI benefits humanity more than it harms it.
Both sides are welcome to approach the topic from any relevant angle, including social, ethical, economic, or technological perspectives. The burden of proof is shared.
Round 1
In a world of innovation, AI has risen to be one of the most monumental and debated creations of the century. Thus the question must be asked whether or not it is truly a good thing for all of humanity. I strongly believe that AI will have detrimental, lasting effects on humans if the path that we are going down continues much further.
the pillar of my reasoning is one simple thing.
Creativity.
Although AI has the opportunity and has already made advancements in fields directly helpful to humans one huge underlying problem is brought along with this. When people have the ability to get ideas from something at the touch of their fingers, human creativity is bound to take a hit, and has taken a hit as we see the impacts of children and students that have been brought up alongside AI. Whether that is something as simple as Chatgpt giving you an idea for a science project, to writing papers for an English class that is only there to help you. This effect snowballs and will continue snowball overtime if nothing changes.
We need to decide which is more important to us.
Is it scientific advancement, or keeping one of the few pillars of humanity that distinguish us from the rest of the world? When creativity is gone, so is the idea of a human.
