Round 1
Abusing a fish is just as bad as abusing any other animal.
For example, I will be using a beta fish.
Beta fish are the most commonly abused fish.
They need cycled water, non-cycled water is like putting a dog in the middle of Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster.
The same with chlorinated water- fish need purified water using a fish water purifier or you can use spring water which overall is a little bit just more expensive but I don't judge.
Beta fish also need heated water. Non-heated water for a fish is like putting a dog in the arctic with no coat.
Beta fish also need 5 gallons of water (or 20 liters) minimum. Not having 5 gallons is like putting a large ass dog in a tiny crate.
Beta fish are also very active animals and need plenty of enrichment. This could be hiding spots, live plants, or a ping pong ball for 5 minutes to stimulate hunting.
Beta fish need water changes (About 25-30%) every week from my personal experience to keep down ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels.
Not doing this would be like having a dog lie in its own shit until it dies from diseases.
Beta fish are also heavily intelligent, they have the ability to learn tricks and build relationships with their owner such as interacting with them by swimming to the glass and making friendly and non-stressed body language, learn their owner's routine, and respond to their owners voice.
A fish has a lot of same level capabilities as a dog does. Some dogs are stupider than fish. Some fish are smarter than dogs. It all depends on the fish you buy, but at the end of the day; a fish requires more work than a solo cup you idiot.
