Violation of International Law
When a country uses defense it can be really bad. It often does not follow the rules that the whole world agreed on. The United Nations Charter says that countries must use force in a way and only when they are defending themselves. They have to make sure they do not hurt many people or cause too much damage. Extreme defense by countries is not what the United Nations Charter is about. The United Nations Charter is, like a set of rules that says countries should use force proportionally and only when they are really defending themselves not just because they want to.
When people do things on purpose to hurt civilians or do more than they need to that is a war crime. No country can say that doing something is okay just because they think they need to defend themselves really badly. War crimes are still wrong even if a country thinks it is defending itself. Countries cannot just do whatever they want and call it defense because that is not what defense means. If a country does something to hurt civilians that is a war crime. It is not justified no matter what the country says about defense.
Risk of Escalation
When we take measures it can make the other side want to fight back. This can make a situation even worse and sometimes it can turn into a big war. Extreme measures can really escalate conflicts. That is why they are so dangerous. We have to be careful when we deal with measures because they can lead to full-scale wars.
When a country takes action to defend itself things can get out of control. Hurt that same country. This happens because the action that was supposed to keep the country safe can spiral and have effects. The country that started this action can end up being harmed by it which is the opposite of what it was meant to do.
Moral and Ethical Concerns
The idea of defense extremism is really bad because it can hurt people who have done nothing. These innocent people should not have to die. Defense extremism is not a thing because it can cause a lot of harm to people who are not doing anything bad. It is never okay to hurt lives when we are talking about defense extremism.
When a country hurts people it does not seem like a good country anymore. People from countries do not want to be friends with it. This means the country is not respected much as it used to be. The country loses support from nations and this affects its position in the world. A nation that harms civilians loses legitimacy and international support weakening its standing, as a nation.
Strategic Ineffectiveness
Having a defense can make us safe for a little while but it can also hurt our relationships with other countries our ability to buy and sell things and our friendships, with other nations. Extreme defense can really damage diplomacy it can damage trade. It can damage alliances.
True security comes from measured, lawful, and smart defensive strategies, not indiscriminate extreme actions.
