Round 1

Imagine someone deliberately takes the life of a child, murders multiple innocent people, or commits an act of terrorism that destroys countless families. We all agree those crimes are among the worst imaginable. The question today is not whether those acts are evil. The question is whether society should have the right to impose the ultimate punishment for the ultimate crimes. I believe it should.
My first point is justice.
When someone intentionally takes another person's life, they have permanently taken away every future that victim could have had. No birthday, no graduation, no family, no second chances. For the most extreme crimes, a punishment should reflect the seriousness of what was done. Life imprisonment is severe, but it still allows the offender to continue living. The victim never gets that opportunity.
Secondly, the death penalty protects society.
Although maximum-security prisons are designed to be secure, prisoners can still attack guards, assault other inmates, or even order crimes from inside prison. Executing the most dangerous offenders removes any possibility that they will ever harm another person again.
My third point is deterrence.
Even if the death penalty does not stop every criminal, the possibility of the highest possible punishment may make some people think twice before committing the most horrific crimes. If it prevents even one innocent life from being taken, that matters.
