You may be right- I think of tribalism, ethnocentrism, and nationalism as the same human impulse defined by different scales and outlines: nations by borders, ethnocentrism by racial id, tribes by family ancestry.

I think what you're referring to is tribalism. Ethnonationalism is a very specific political system and not necessarily ingrained in our psyche. Trump is a nationalist at best, a more apt term would be a neoconservative, but the last thing one could refer to him as is an ethnonationalist when he directly appeals to minorities as a voting strategy.

I think in relationship to Palestine that is hard to deny but I also think ethno-nationalism runs pretty deep in the human psyche. I mean, Donald Trump is fairly ethnic-nationalistic in rhetoric, right? I guess I’m just challenging the notion that Israel is special in terms of nationalism- I see a lot of it around these days.

Perhaps some countries have similar demographics to an ethnonationalist nation. They aren't directed upon that basis or created with that sole intention, Japan for instance is just incredibly strict on immigration and anything beyond tourism resulting in little ethnic diversity.
