It seems that any time government tries to have high taxes and run buisnesses, it ends bad.

In theory, Communism works.

The government elected by people redistributes the wealth so that all basic needs of all are met.

In practice?

Government is corrupt.

It wants money for itself.

Buisnesses bribe the government to work for them, or worse, some members of government have private buisnesses and they use their position to make more money.

Of course, it would be great if government printed limited amount of money to give to the poor, but it doesnt work because government has no interest to do that.

Government is simply greedy.

Those who fight to be in power arent some saints or angels, but people who enjoy the feeling of power and decision making for others.

I think after 200 years of failed government policies, one can not really hope that it "gets better" any time soon.

it's fair to minimize government. a basic social safety net is fair and the most moral solution. that's what we have in the usa. government needs to definitely be kept in check, though, even our current government.

Then why is Europe doing so fantastically well in every department?

Japan and South Korea have fluctuated between being social democracies Vs corporate bordellos, when they swing to lefty mentality their nations consistently do better, study the recent history. Suicide rates and a lot more factors are far worse there when it swings to lower tax corporate capitalism, South Korea went more that direction, Japan went more social democracy, both were hybrids around early 2000s. Japan is doing better in many categories, both have issues.

They aren't. You may want to expand your sources.

Government is the social manifestation of natural hierarchy, in some form or another.

The alternative is anarchy.

Though anarchy will always rapidly evolve into a system of social hierarchical government in some form or another.

Perhaps some  systems  of government are better than others

But bear in mind that no matter how the system functions, wealth and reward will always be commensurate with social structure.

I personally would rather live in the UK, than in North Korea.

As I suspect, would rather a lot of North Koreans.
