MAFIA WIN

I thought the balance in this game was pretty good, especially considering the set up was fairly last minute. Town had the opportunity to win, and scum used their roles effectively. If Town hadn’t lynched the Cop DP1, I think this game would’ve turned out very differently.

Moozer, you need to participate a lot more, especially considering you were borderline town confirmed. Your insight matters a lot. You need to consider every angle possible. Motives are key for example. I think the main thing town failed to consider today was the motive behind the 1v1 between Earth and Banana. Why would scum Banana risk that after claiming an active ability, and why would scum Earth risk that after being scumread DP2. For Earth, a bus is in the realm for sure, but I think at the end of the day, his behavior killed him. I’m going to offer you the same advice Earth that I offered to Wylted: you need to be clear in the information you give about your character, role, and justification. Saying “I’m the motion detector” was fine early on. But then you got to clarify that your true role is the Time Traveller especially after you basically caught Cerulean in a lie.

Major props to Banana for calling out Mharman’s lies straight to his face. She had the game solved purely based on behavior and motivations of Mharman. She was right that there was no need to hide the information, and the whole extra NK talk was just pure wacko talk. With Cerulean, he’s just inactive. Practically impossible to read him in the first place. The claims were also kind of mid. Informed Townie as Jason Hudson was probably the better one tbh, but the information that I supposedly “gave” him didn’t make much sense. Scum basically wasted their 4 asks as well. Mharman, you know I hate being Vanilla, so why would I put them in my games especially considering I’ve never done that before. Their remaining 3 were all characters that town already had so not much they could do. I purposely left major characters like Hudson and Woods out there as a fake claim. I’ll post the entire list at the end. Anyways. It was a great effort by scum. Extremely well done. I hope everyone enjoyed the game. As always, constructive criticism is appreciated!

TOWN:

Lunatic - You are Alex Mason—a battle-hardened CIA operative and former Marine caught in the middle of a Cold War nightmare. You’ve faced the worst warzones the world has to offer, but nothing compares to the war waged inside your own mind. After being captured by Dragovich and his men, they tried to turn you into something you’re not—a sleeper agent, triggered by the numbers that echo in your head. You don’t know what’s real anymore. Memories blur with hallucinations, allies become suspects, and your past is a puzzle you’re forced to solve under fire. But your experiences with friends and enemies help you solve the mystery of the numbers and prevent World War III from happening. Thus, you are the Town Masonizer. Each night, you may invite a player to a private channel. They will receive the invitation to join at the beginning of the DP. Be warned though, you may invite mafia as well. You win with the Town.

Bullish - You are Grigori Weaver. You were sent behind enemy lines, deep into the Soviet Union, with one objective: infiltrate Dragovich’s launch facility at Baikonur and disable the rocket before it could take off. It was a mission tailored to your strengths—stealth, precision, and your knowledge of the USSR. But things went wrong. You were compromised before reaching your target. They tied you to a chair near a waiting Mi-8 helicopter, interrogated you under the open sky like a spectacle. You knew they were making a point—to you and to the men watching from a distance. Through binoculars, Mason and Woods spotted you. And then Kravchenko made contact, coldly offering your life in exchange for their surrender. When Kravchenko drove the blade into your eye, you were presumed dead until Mason and Woods saved you. You completed the mission at hand, but unfortunately Dragovich escaped. Because of this, you are the Undercover Cop. You are protected against kills every night, unless you choose to use your ability to investigate someone's alignment. You win with the Town.

Earth - You are Victor Reznov. You were born in blood and fire—raised in a land torn apart by war, where loyalty to the Motherland was not a choice, but a duty. You trusted Dragovich, Kravchenko, and Steiner. You believed they fought for Russia—for the people. But they betrayed you. Used you as a test subject. Poisoned you with lies and left you to rot in Vorkuta. In that frozen hell, they thought they'd broken you. But they underestimated your will. In Vorkuta, you became more than a prisoner. You became a leader—a spark of rebellion in a place drowned in hopelessness. You inspired men who had nothing left. You gave them purpose. And then you met Mason. Together, you ignited the uprising. You fought your way through concrete and steel, tearing down the walls of your cage. And though you didn’t survive that escape, your mission did. Your death was not the end. You lived on in Mason’s mind. Your voice, your vengeance, your hatred for Dragovich, Kravchenko, and Steiner—they became his after you talked about your history. Through him, your war continued and ended. Thus, you are the 2x Time Traveler. For two nights, you may target someone and ask the host whether that player was visited by or visited anyone on a specific night (this night does not need to be the same night that the action is being submitted on). You win with the Town.

Moozer - You are Dr. Daniel Clarke. Your skills were put to use stabilizing volatile compounds for the Nova 6 gas. He would have you silenced to tie up any loose ends. But you weren’t ready to die. You escaped, fleeing from the Russian forces sent to silence you. You were always looking over your shoulder, always running. Even when you made your way to Hong Kong, your work didn’t stop. You set up a makeshift lab and continued your research, hiding Nova 6 canisters, knowing that at any moment, Dragovich’s men could come knocking. You were finally captured by Hudson and Weaver in Kowloon City, but in exchange for your life, you promised them information about Nova 6—the truth about Friedrich Steiner and the Soviet base where it all began. If they could get you out, you’d give them what they needed. As you fought your way through the storm to escape—a possibility you were prepared for with weapons caches and routes—you knew time was running out. The rooftop was within reach, but fate had other plans. Just as you were about to reveal the final pieces about the "numbers," a sniper’s bullet tore through your skull and you died. Weaver and Hudson escaped but they were unsuccessful in getting the information they came for. For this reason, you are the Escape Artist. You are immune to the first lynch. Upon your lynch, the DP will end and your role will be revealed. You win with the Town.

Wylted - You are Joseph Bowman. In 1968, you were deployed to Vietnam as part of the elite Studies and Observations Group (SOG). You fought alongside Frank Woods and Alex Mason, both of whom you knew well from previous operations. Your keen eyes and steady hands led you to the wreck of a Russian cargo plane. It was there that things took a dark turn. When Russian Spetsnaz arrived to reclaim the site, you fought bravely to defend it. But in the end, you were captured by the Viet Cong, taken prisoner and held captive for days. During that week, the brutal interrogation tactics took their toll. Tortured, sleep-deprived, and forced into cruel games like Russian roulette, you broke—your resolve shattering under the pressure. In a final act of defiance, you angered your Russian captor, and for that, you were beaten to death with a pipe. Your death went unconfirmed until Mason's capture at Rebirth Island, but when it was revealed, it was clear your sacrifice wasn’t in vain. Mason and Woods, driven by your memory, avenged your death, eliminating the Russian responsible for your torment. Because of this, you are the Martyr.  Once per game at night, you may choose to sacrifice yourself. All night actions will fail that night. You win with the Town.

Banana - You are Major Neitsch. You are featured in only one mission, but it was a crucial mission: "WMD." Serving as the Reconnaissance Systems Officer (RSO) aboard the SR-71 Blackbird, you provide critical aerial support to the CIA's Kilo 1 team during their covert operation in the Soviet Union along with Captain Mosely. You guide them to the proper location and track/watch them from space. When a Russian convoy is nearby, you order the team to “Stop And Drop” helping them avoid detection. With your support, the mission was a success, and Jason Hudson got what he needed. As a result, you are the Even Night Tracker/Odd Night Watcher. On even nights, you may target a player and learn who they visited. On odd nights, you may target a player and learn who visited them. You win with the Town.

Whiteflame - You are Sergei Kozin. You were a prisoner in the Vorkuta gulag, feared and respected by all who knew you. Nicknamed the "Monster of Magadan," your brute strength was legendary. You tackled two guards at once, killing them both with your bare hands, and another guard fell victim to a pickaxe uppercut. Your hulking build matched the fearsome name you earned. During the Vorkuta uprising, you played a crucial role in aiding the escape. You helped push the coal cart with Reznov and opened the arms locker, making it possible for the prisoners to arm themselves. Later, you used your immense strength to hold the shutter open for Mason, Reznov, and the others to escape through. But just as Mason got through, one of the guards shot you, and the gate came down on top of you, ending your life in a brutal, silent death. Your strength kept the uprising alive and allowed Mason to eventually escape the labor camp and return to the United States. Due to this, you are the Strengthener. Each night, you may target someone and protect their night action, if they have any, from being roleblocked or moved to another target. You win with the Town.

Well that was a fun game. I need to get better at convincing people, but I am happy with how I played and sort of being on the right track, even though in the end I got it wrong. I am never trusting results again lol.

Good job to mharman and cerulean, they played very well. I think our activity was pretty bad, and I was busy for the first couple day phases so that was my fault, but yeah other than that I don't think town played horribly.

MAFIA:

Mharman - You are Nikita Dragovich. You are a ruthless Soviet officer who stays in the shadows, manipulating global events during the Cold War. In the game, you are seen using mind control—specifically the “numbers program”—to Mason into a sleeper agent, aiming to weaponize his mind for your own goals. While people may think they’re in control, Dragovich is always one step ahead, pulling the strings from behind the scenes. Thus, you are the Mind Controller/Ninja. Each night, you may choose to control someone's action. You will learn their role, and be able to choose a new target. Alternatively, you may choose to be immune from Tracker/Watcher like roles. You win with the Mafia.

Casey/Cerulean - You are Lev Krevchenko. You serve as the fiercely loyal and sadistic enforcer for Soviet mastermind Nikita Dragovich. As a high-ranking officer in the Soviet military, you are known for your brutal methods, unflinching discipline, and cold-blooded approach to warfare. You play a critical role in carrying out Dragovich's plans, especially during the execution of Project Nova and the deployment of the Nova 6 bioweapon. At the end of Black Ops, you were presumed dead, but you survived and formed a major part of the sequel. Because of this, you are the Godfather/Strongman. Each night, you may choose to commit the NK. It will be immune from all action and manipulation. On nights you do not commit the kill, you will investigate as “Innocent.” You win with the Mafia.

Informed is funny cause you can just make stuff up.

The point of the extra NK idea was a fake counterbalance to Moozer’s role.

The hidden ability was intended to be separate, but I felt my fake claim would be more cohesive if the information I got was related.

What Cerulean pointed out to me in thread was something I actually didn’t consider- I thought not revealing would be consistent with my behavior as town prior to that.

The idea was to reveal the NP1 info DP4 if needed.

Also, I misread Wylted’s PM. I thought it said he couldn’t be protected on nights he used his role. Had I read it correctly, I would’ve claimed a protective role, and left the informed as an option for Cerulean.

I felt like I was doing a good job of defending myself though. I didn’t need to convince you I was town… just everyone else.

I didn't really watch this game too closely after dropping out since I've been busy (the reason I dropped out in the first place), but it seems like the scum team did a good job, so congrats to them.

I will say, I agree with Pie that asking about a Vanilla was a dumb idea. I would have tried to strongly steer Mharman against that if I had remained in the game.

Well, my analysis was dead wrong. Probably would have ended up lynching Earth without it anyway, but I thought I had something there and I was clearly barking up the wrong tree. Ah well.

Mharman definitely had me fooled much of this game, got town vibes from him much of the game so well done there. Cerulean I was constantly leaning scum on during and after DP2, but it never felt like I had enough to go off of. Should’ve taken Banana up on her offer to push him DP3, but I doubt we could have convinced Moozer to change tacks.

Anyway, well done to scum. Earth, I’d really love to be able to townread you one of these games but it always feels like you’re leaving out much of your thinking and only giving partial information about your role.

Oh and I’ll hype up Banana as well. Part of the reason I just acceded to pushing someone else was that it sincerely felt like she was behaviorally town by that point. Should’ve been more willing to push Mharman and she had good reasoning for it. Also, good way to partially fake your claim.

I am glad I didn't make it into lylo. Sure mharman and cerulean were in my POE, but I think there were others I scum read more. And I was also pretty back and forth on whtieflame. For some reason I just can never let go and fully trust him lol. I am not sure who I would have thought was his partner though. Good job to mharm and cerulean for pulling through, I liked the fake claims.

Well balanced game pie. No obvious critics stand out to me. I think mharmans role is powerful, only in that town tend to take results so seriously. But I think the more results burn a town the less likely they will be to follow them blindly in the future.

Three investigative roles in a 9-player game. That’s my only critique.

As for Vanillas, I don’t hate playing vanilla.

Yeah, I was a little too dead-set on Earth for a bit there. I privately toyed with lynching Banana or Cerulean, but it was never enough to get past my Earth suspicion. Well played by scum, Mhar had me fooled completely with is behavior, and the re-director action was well played. I really wish we had lynched Earth DP2 instead of confirming me though. That's where things really started going wrong IMO, we were just behind on lynching from then on.

Eh. The redundancy is the problem. It puts town at a disadvantage thanks to CCs. And in a world where it becomes normal, scum is at a disadvantage.

I disagree. It’s not a CC if the roles are different. You have to think about balance holistically. Scum aren’t at a disadvantage because they have counters to the roles. You had a Ninja that would’ve negated both the Watcher/Tracker and Time Traveller.

I didn't track the game much after dropping out either. I just got my 6th tech cert and was learning mySQL.

After mySQL I learn science. All of it
