1: the ideologue

These are people who usually only want to talk about one thing, and it's almost always politics. 99% of the time they either only want to talk about how much they hate Trump or how much they love Trump. These are usually older individuals who are incredibly stubborn and incredibly indoctrinated. They will never change their mind, and they will never see more than one side of an argument, preferring to stick to the narrow band of information they get from one set of biased news sources or another. 

2: the chameleon

They don't care about truth, they don't care about exploring topics with an open mind, they don't even care about pushing their beliefs, they only care about winning debates. If you debate this type they will only use semantic arguments and try to reframe the debate to their advantage. This type has no principles or integrity, they only care about winning and everyone here falls under this type to an extent but only a few are fully committed to it.

3: the uptight

These types tend to win a lot of debates, with their highly structured arguments that tend to exploit technicalities and details the opponent missed. These people almost always seem to have OCD and be "lawful" types who are rigid about etiquette and rules. This type is the most likely to become a mod and the most likely to be high on the leaderboard.

4: the rebel

These types aren't afraid to get under people's skin, their demeanor can range from incessant trolling to passionately defending their unorthodox points of view. I for example definitely fit under this type. This type is the most likely to get banned or to be low on the leaderboard, not necessarily because they are bad at debating but because nobody likes or agrees with them.

5: the uptight/rebel hybrid

These are like the uptight except they have more unorthodox opinions and are more indirect and cunning in their debate style. They are not trolls like the rebels are but they are also not as good at getting along with everyone like the uptight are (the uptight don't get along with the rebels though, whereas the hybrid type can be friends or enemies with either one of those two types on an individual basis).

6: the whimsical butterfly

These types don't like debating about serious topics, they usually start stupid debates like "is cereal a type of soup". These are the most likely users to be minors or to quit the site after having 1 or 2 debates.

7: the lurker

they're watching us, but they aren't one of us

8: the NPC

They behave similar to the first type, but they only engage with the most over-debated and surface level normie issues. They will do 500 debates about a narrow range of topics like gun control and abortion.

Seems the one person who can i.d. all of those types has been all those types at one time or another. But, then again, sitting on a fence, one does see the parade go by without having to participate.
On the other hand, no one gets anywhere fence-sitting, do they?

As Teddy Roosevelt once said [paraphrase] only the one who comes down off the fence and into the frey have any personal knowledge of victory and defeat, and usually experience both.  And perhaps it is only they who ought to be heard.

I presume he's talking about "In The Arena" a famous quote by Teddy Rosevelt I can still quote because it was on the wall of the wrestling room when I wrestled (about a hundred years ago).  It is for all the couch potatoes sitting and eating Cheetos while they talk about how the Olympians on TV suck.
