📣 Who deserves to be a mod? 📣

News about the MOD (AdaptableRatMan) has sparked up some arguments, and opinions. 

So what are some characteristics, or skills that a MOD should have? 

And if thats true, then who actually ticks all the boxes?

Who is someone we can all agree on to be a MOD?

So, there are different definitions of mod.

This site uses definition:

I am a little more evolved.

In the arena we have no official endorsed views. You have to defend your arguments. It's where men are built. 

The ideal mod is both a mediator and a leader. 

Whiteflame would be it, if he were stricter. 

David might be it. Fauxlaw would make an excellent moderator. 

Fauxlaw would promote me in a  heartbeat I am pretty sure we have a similar vision. He DMd me genuinely happy I was in charge.

This doesn’t change the fact that your promotion caused huge controversy

Why does that need to be changed? It is beautiful, revolution always is controversial.

I think whiteflame is fine. I believe in a fair, accommodating, and sensible approach to moderation of websites. He appears to be the most intelligent mod, and possibly most intelligent active user here. I do not know why a certain few are asking for stricter moderation. Two members were punished in one week recently. What is the problem?

This is a website, not a church. It is a virtual meeting place; a place for discussion. We do not want uniformity.

A mod should be chill and reluctant to use their power under normal site conditions (not counting, for example, when there's a torrent of spambots). They ought to afford users of the platform a long leash, and be as ideologically neutral as possible in their evaluations. They should be slower to treat attacks on themselves as worthy of mod action than attacks on other users, and should never brandish threats relating to their position of authority as a crass bludgeon for winning petty internet arguments or retaliating against perceived slights. They should be willing to hear appeals, and fairly consider if what they've been told merits showing leniency. The ideal mod is one that, most of the time, people just kind of forget is a mod.

I would nominate myself, but I never win these quasi-popularity contests so I only hope that whoever gets it next will match these qualities.

You describe the features of a sissylike timid male mod or a female mod who is too timid to be a stern motherly figure at times.

We need a real leader.

My brother in Allah and Xenu, we're a bunch of fat dudes on the internet rehashing the same 90 IQ "debates" over and over. The stakes aren't even a small fraction as high as you seem to think they are.

I 'like debate, but I've no deep education in it, and none formal.

Not that I know 'what education others have, but assumably 'some were in debate clubs in school or college.

It's certainly good advice to keep things in perspective.

I can tell he will police the site consistently towards moral good.

He would come to his senses once he realized you do not have the capacity to enact change on a small or large scale.

Your failures as a trial mod demonstrate that people do not respect you or take you seriously.
