The core issue is this: The people are generally not paying attention. Even the greater engagement of late is just die hard radicals growing in number. If people are happy in 2028 they're going to give credit to Trump and they are very likely to go with whoever he endorses.
If they aren't happy they are far more likely to just vote democrat than to primary out Trump's pick.
It is practically impossible to penetrate the rigging in the democratic party, but this would be the ideal time for an attempted libertarian takeover of the democratic party. That way the pendulum swing is with you AND there is no big names to beat out.
The other big problem with that, besides the fact that the deep state still controls the party, is that the base of the party thinks government spending solves problems. When libertarians do appeal to them it's on social issues, but there are no more sane social issues left in the left-tribe.
