Welcome to Microbiology Mafia! I'll try to avoid too much technical information and jargon in this game, mainly to make sure everyone can understand what I'm posting. This game is all about bacteria, so despite my personal affection (yes, I do mean that) for them, there will be no viruses in here (sorry Ebola, not this time). No fungi or molecular parasites, either. I thought this would be a good opportunity to put out some fun facts about bacteria as this games goes on, so I hope people enjoy those.

To answer some of the obvious questions: there is a theme split, scum will be able to ask about two roles and two characters over the course of this DP as usual, I will attempt to keep up with the DP to the best of my ability and respond to both public and private questions (with limitations of course), and I'll attempt to keep an ongoing vote count going.


Going to stick to some pretty basic rules (once again, stealing these from Pie):

1) No editing or deleting posts of any kinds
2) No copy/pasting your role PM (please paraphrase)
3) No cryptography of any kind
4) No communication outside of the mafia game
5) No liking/upvoting posts after you die
6) No using ChatGPT/AI to paraphrase your PM

Everyone gets the drill by this point. I'll add extra rules if needed, but I don't suspect I'll have to do that.

All DPs will be 72 hours and NPs 24 hours unless the NP ends with everyone submitting actions earlier.

Fun fact: Helicobacter pylori straddles an interesting line for gut microbes. It causes a lot of ulcers and many stomach cancers, but it also regulates stomach acid and keeps acid reflux in check. Pick your poison. Also, the scientist who "proved" that it causes ulcers literally swallowed a culture of it to demonstrate. Needless to say, he got ulcers.

Ok so I checked when everyone was last online.

Mikal  and RM were last seen 6 and 4 days ago respectively. I’ll assume Mikal will show up eventually but I’m not sure if RM will given recent events (and the whole “maybe mafia is evil” thing during said recent event).

Tagging you since you may need to tag Banana in for a replace if we get a no-show.

Yeah, I've reached out to Banana as a potential backup. I've managed to contact Mikal, so he shouldn't be a concern. AR/RM is trickier since he's blocked me on Discord.

Fun fact: Bloodborne infections usually don't get very high in concentration, which makes them difficult to detect before they cause sepsis and kill you. There are two exceptions: Yersinia pestis (Black Plague) and Bacillus anthrasis (Anthrax), both of which will achieve numbers large enough to be easily seen under a microscope before they kill you.

Couple of notes: scum can ask for 2 fake characters and 2 fake roles. Soft claims are still doable and pretty vague tbh. I personally was thinking about posting whether your bacteria is Gram Positive, Gram Negative, or Neither/Atypical.

Fun fact: Gram stains were developed back in 1884 and are mainly used to differentiate bacteria based on the presence of peptidoglycan in the bacterial cell wall. Using two stains (crystal violet and safranin) plus a few other chemicals, you can get some pretty decent pictures of your organism under the microscope. Crystal violet is a pain to get out of your clothes, though... learned that one the hard way.

I don't know what gram positive or gram negative is and I do not have the laboratory equipment at home to confirm if the scientific consensus in what is gram positive or gram negative is correct so not a question I can answer. 

With that said obvious scum is obvious.

Bacteria form biofilms on surfaces that basically function as a community of microbes built to protect themselves and improve their growth. Many of these biofilms are virtually essential for life to exist and thrive as it does, e.g. rhizobacteria which promote the growth of plants, but in a medical setting, they're often the cause of some terrible infections and are extremely difficult to eliminate, even from surfaces that should be clean like catheters.

I can but that only tells me the scientific consensus I still do not have the equipment or expertise to verify the scientific consensus is correct. Lets meet in the middle though. I will google it and tell you the scientific consensus but I cannot and will not verify if it is true or not until I am able to personally test it, since scientists are the type who got stuffed in lockers as children, so essentially beta males too afraid to rock the boat.
