Hey everyone,
I don’t want to overcommit just yet and I know Max will probably slap my hand and yell at me for jumping the gun before we’ve fully lined everything up, but I wanted to get the ball rolling and see if there’s interest in helping move this forward. Max and I have been talking for a while about launching a YouTube channel. We’ve pitched various ideas, but we always circle back to one thing, Mafia. We genuinely think there’s a ton of potential here. It combines gaming, intense discourse, and problem solving, quite a few elements that make for compelling content. A number of streamers and content creators have dabbled in Mafia and really enjoyed it, so want to give it a whirl.
We’re not going into this expecting the channel to blow up, but we do want to give it a solid shot. Here's our rough gameplan:
- Bring Back Live Games – We’ll aim to host live Mafia games once per week. We’ll coordinate with everyone to pick a day that works best.
- Assemble a Consistent Player Base – We’re looking for a reliable group of people to show up and participate.
- Video Editing & Channel Setup – Max will be handling editing. We’ll launch a dedicated YouTube channel to post the games.
- Introductory Content – Our first few videos will be very beginner friendly, basic “how to play” content, breakdowns of game mechanics, and commentary that cuts away from gameplay to explain player behavior and decision-making.
- Share Across Platforms – We’ll post our content to Reddit and other relevant communities to try and build some interest.
- See What Sticks – We’re going to experiment a bit and see if we can tap into an algorithm, drive views, and generally bring some attention back to the game.
- Community Growth – The goal is to create a feedback loop, use the content to funnel new players into live games, and guide them toward playing on forums (likely here, now that David has permissions). We’ve also considered setting up a separate site, but this community has always meant a lot to me, so it makes more sense to send traffic here if we can.
I’ve already reached out to a few people, and Whiteflame, Pie, and Luna have all kindly offered to participate when they’re able. With quick fire games, we can knock out a few in one night and hopefully recapture some of the energy and excitement from the old days. We’re not starting immediately, there’s still some prep work to do, but we want to try and get this off the ground at some point soon if it all lines up. Hoping we can deliver. If you are interested in playing, let me know. Outside of blatant toxicity, and just generally ruining the games, I am open to anyone coming unless the broader community is against it.
