Albert Camus' The Stranger. A book I hated tbh. I think Tony's daughter is reading it at some point too. But the show seemed to dive into the absurdity of Tony's life and make some meaning in it that that book didn't with Meursault.
I never liked that book either but I wasn’t able to tell if it’s because I’m just low IQ or if it’s actually bad

“I shot someone because the sun was in my eyes, so le mysterious, life is meaningless “ 🙄🙄🙄

Nah. Mortgage and a dog. An even more desperate situation.

The food is good though.

Christianity has been a force for great good and great ill, and I think it's unfair to reduce it to only its ills, but the point about divine absolution disincentivizing apologies is a good one.

I'll take all the halfways agreements I can get. I'm positive that Christianity is pure moral corruption in the first world though. Historically and in the more brutal places today I can give it a pass.

Why doesn't God do anything? Oh that right, God is dead.

I feel like you're seeing all Christianity through the lens of right-wing American evangelicals. If you're looking at only them, Christianity becomes nothing more than the cudgel they use to enforce their RWA politics. Easy to start saying stuff like "Christianity is a force for ill" then.

I mean it's a shitty bunch of people that doesn't seem to have a counterpart amongst the irreligious. And it's not a small group either.

My grandmas was a good Christian and I would have never begrudged her it. My heart goes out to all the innocent Christian grandmas out there.

I don't think they're all shitty. I think some of them just want to believe in god. I get that too even if most times I'm embarrassed to admit it.

But I really do believe the real hook in Christianity is carte blanche. It's a salve to conscience.

It is the opposite of carte blanche. Just becauae you can ve saved does not mean you are guaranteed it.

Calvinists maybe think so.

Any religion can be used as a force for ill. Picking on christianity just because they have a new prophet now is not fair.

A favorite accusation of non-believers is that Christianity is a mish mash of ancient myths warmed up and served again. The fairy tales of incarnate gods, virgin births and dying and rising gods are simply re-framed in Christianity. Is Christianity merely paganism warmed up? Is Christianity a fairy tale or a myth?
