The real reason why new users dont stay on this site is because this site is too sensitive.

No one wants to be subject to constant moderation. Debate.org with no moderation had more users than this site.

What we need is total anarchy like we had on Debate.org.

Seriously, people here go around reporting comments. If some comment offends you, just move on. Words cannot hurt you unless you are sensitive. You willingly read them, no? If you dont like some person, just dont read his comments and posts. Its easy.

Lol. People continue to blame moderation policy for a lack of marketing and funds. Sites with better resources are going to have better traffic.

That's why retention rate is a better measure. And we saw a sharp drop off back when moderators were thought policing.

Banning people reduces number of people on the site.
Say you have 20 active users. 6 are ban-prone. Lax moderation policies would keep those 6 online, but you've still only got 20 people. Doesn't solve the underlying issue.

Relaxing rules is never going to help traffic as much as real advertising. If you had 100 active users, what would the loss of 6 matter?

If you don't ever plan for the site to grow, then yeah, I guess having mods asleep at the desk like Homer Simpson is the way to keep all 20 people on.

I'm not sure 'what got him banned in particular,
From the ban reason, 'appears to be just wouldn't leave some people alone.

I 'do think I recall he would often get into flame wars with trolls,
But when 'not in such, he had some interesting views and topics.

I 'always thought it was too bad.
She had points of view I found extremely interesting, doubled by the fact they were not all that common.
But over time she 'really kept seeming to take offense from people, where I don't think any way given.

Neither of them really knew how to throttle back. ethang developed Predator vision around trolls and wouldn't quit, and Poly was just sort of persecuted and hateful all the time. Still, good contributors. Especially enjoyed hearing Poly's perspectives. A pagan viewpoint was a breath of fresh air.
