Aloha!

Recently, as I have been moderating the site, I have noticed that there has been some confusion as to what counts as a call-out thread. I am posting this to clarify the issue for site users. A call-out thread is, per the COC, any thread "in which a purpose of the thread is to attack another user."

The definition of a call-out thread means a few things in practice. First, it means that not all threads calling people out are call-out threads as the COC defines the term. If I create a thread saying, "Calling Out Castin," and then in the thread I say only complimentary things about her, I have not created a "call-out thread" as the COC defines it, and so my thread has not broken any site rules. The COC certainly does not prohibit saying nice things about other people. Second, the call-out thread, in its purpose, OP content, or title content, must constitute a personal attack. Threads criticizing or parodying other users are not necessarily call-out threads. Not all criticism or mockery rises to a level which is actionable under the COC.

Therefore, a call-out thread is a thread created for the purpose of personally attacking another user. It is not a thread created for complimenting other users, nor is every thread that has something negative to say about someone a call-out thread.

Hopefully this adds some clarity to the issue.

That is why the rule should be that if the intention of your thread, even indirectly in a blatant way, is taken by the mods and general userbase to be to humiliate, expose etc another user, you should not be making such a thread.

This, then, covers you being able to leave up call-out threads where the recipient digs the beef and it's mano e mano with mutual respect/disrespect that the userbase digs the drama of.

I can give you a ton of other advice if you want, but you'll just say 'run your own site', there's a reason I don't and it isn't just the money. To run a site like this blackmails me to hide myself as the admin and would have to pose as another user, which I have no doubt Mike is doing potentially. You also should have a support team, like what you wanted Castin and Ramshutu's role to be but a more clear role that cannot and does not moderate or get flack for that, they handle people and filter the non-easy-to-solve queries and stuff with you and the userbase.

The problem with sites where all the running is done by free-to-hire volunteers is that the currency becomes social acceptance, I got that a long time ago and didn't complain about it literally ever. I get that you always work for something and for some the appreciation and recognition is their payment, so give it to them. Delegate better, make yourself the untouchable kingpin on the top of the food chain 'round here and for fuck's sake man; rule out disrespecting you, whether you think you're a noble masochist or not. When you allow people to treat you like dirt and you don't use it for drama like I do, all that people learn about you is that you're a tough guy to get to emotionally and are cold inside, which is a terrible image to have if you want to draw people in and create a team that trusts each other and cares a lot. Virt has you covered in that department brutally and is the sole site-staff-reason this site didn't fall apart back when people were at your throat. You said 'disrespect us as you please' but I stuck up for Virt and you, for you. People learned, not just from my defence but other people who joined in such as Virt himself as he does defend you at times, that you do have backup and are a person that people regard and care about. That image is invaluable in a website where recognition and socialising are the sole currency of power and work ethic staying solid.

You need to recognise what you are; top dog around here. Stop trying to play 'i'm just a guy with mod powers', you are not. You're the alpha of this pack in practise with the charisma of the most beta cuck I've ever met. Stop that shit, you know your worth and that's why you went for the position in the first place.

If you started to actively participate, moderate, shut people up and make people afraid to talk shit about you and rewarded for speaking kindly about you and the website in general, you would use your influence the correct way. You cannot ever stop corruption, you can only channel it in a way that benefits the community to make up for it. You got power, use it well. It's tiring to see you let this place stagnate and people to shit on your name.

@Dr.Franklin
You're kind of making my point for me. If I were a dictator, you would not have the ability to criticize me as you just did. You have that free speech, and so I am not a dictator.

But let's consider for a moment two important distinctions between this site and the outside world. First, this site is privately owned. It is the prerogative of the owner and those he empowers to make rules for this site. You cannot walk into someone else's house and then complain when they impose rules on your behavior. Indeed, the rules are fairly lax. In most people's homes, they probably wouldn't let you insult them much before kicking you out. Here, you have the right to insult moderation and ownership as much as you please. Indeed, most households probably wouldn't let you espouse white nationalist beliefs before they threw you out, but here, you can espouse whatever beliefs you'd like, so long as you do not make personal attacks. And since any ideology can be expressed without making personal attacks, you can express any ideology you'd like. And most offending threads are not deleted (so they are not "censored"); they are locked (i.e. they remain visible, so your speech stays out there in the public domain).

Second, this site is not like the real world. It is a community which exists as a primarily discursive construct. The outside world exists in a more multidimensional space. It is discursive, but also physical, cultural, financial, etc. In our community, as opposed to the outside world, discursive harms take on an outsized importance precisely because they are (a) not diluted or outweigh by more prudential concerns and (b) because they threaten the very fabric upon which the community is built. For example, the spampocalypse is what ultimately destroyed DDO's viability. A purely discursive harm caused a primarily discursive construct to fall apart. So, it is only right that, in this space, discursive harms be more carefully regulated than they might be elsewhere. While, then, you might chafe at some of the rules and regulations you personally dislike, those rules are regulations are there for good reason: to protect the discursive integrity of DART.

In other words, your complaints lack merit at every level. There is no ideology or point of view you are unable to espouse and there is no person of authority you cannot vehemently lambaste, so you clearly have meaningful free speech. If the crux of your argument is that you cannot post 1,000 comments saying "REEE" in a row, then you have little substantive grounds for complaint; the restrictions on that kind of activity are such a minuscule limitation of your overall free speech as to hardly register as a limitation whatsoever. There reaches, ultimately, a point where your complaints turn into petty bouts of childish pouting. My advice is to stop pouting and to enjoy the immense amount of discursive freedom this site does allow, and that freedom really is substantial.

@bsh1
You're a dictator who allows free speech to give the illusion of not being one.

You were not elected, most members don't want you being the head moderator, they want Virtuoso to be... or they did want him to be (or anyone but you) except that most of them got banned or driven off of the site by you and your moderation.

Instead, what's left behind are people able to constantly insult, mock and attack my intellect again and again via 'talking about' instead of 'talking to' loopholes in your flaming section of the CoC. You're only not coming down on it because it suits your agenda to not come down on it, since it's me who's the victim and one of the perpetrators is your diehard cheerleader Ramshutu.

On the other hand, when someone does something you don't really like and is against your interests, you are sure to remind them just how much of a fake-ass non-dictatorship this actually is, minus the fake-ass and the 'non' since the 'non' is the biggest element of what is fake.

Remind us again why your MEEPs are held when you want them on matters you want, worded in ways that suit your agenda. Remind us again why your latest MEEP was not enacted at all on every single banned member debate since then but the only one punished by it was me (which you did still have a MEEP question on, despite saying it already was against the rules and worth deleting to uphold the CoC)... I know why, but you're too much of a coward to come out and admit it.

The reason you allow me to call you a coward, allow Dr. Franklin to question the website and say 'bs' and allow other such powerless verbal attacks at you and your rule enforcement is because it helps extremely with appeasing the rest of the website into thinking there is no dictatorship and that you are fair. You are not fair, it is objectively verifiable just how severely disproportionate you are to some members vs others but the proof lies in PMs that most don't want to reveal or are banned and can't reveal. You are not fair at all, you're just letting people talk shit at you to even further your agenda into villainising those who criticise you.

"You can vote when I tell you, on what I tell you and the results will affect next to nothing in my actual enforcement."

"You never ever will vote me out of my throne, nor will you ever vote on anything until I say so with topics I handpick for my agenda."

"This is not a dictatorship, you vote and can talk shit at me, duh! The fact people dislike me but others like me is proof I found this perfect 'balance' that Ramshutu taught me to talk about! Yipee!"

If you wanted to actually know what the definition of a callout thread is ^ Those are 2 callout posts filled with accuracy and importance to the website. Be sure to forget all about them and lock this thread when it suits your agenda.

@Rat
  1. After joining this website from DDO, I made a debate about the inconsistencies of the bible (which unfortunately was accepted by an inactive).
  2. After that, I went on the forums for a while and posted a bunch of stuff (still am)
  3. I played one game of mafia, currently in the second
And yeah, that’s pretty much it. Thanks for asking!

To to return the favor, what did you do since joining this site?

@PressF4Respect
  1. From week one of being on the site, exposed a serial troll who drove people to suicide and death threatened them, even pitting one of my enemies against the other with one of the most positive outcomes of evidence release and help I've ever seen.
  2. Among many suggestions in public as well as direct help in private so much so that I helped Ramshutu, Mike and Virtuoso run the Trello and organise it in ways that helped them permanently even after I left after a few weeks of intense help... I have helped the site in a real, tangible way.
  3. In between number 2, donated 2 months of Patreon to the website, while unfairly banned, in the hopes it would improve or just to make a debate haven last online. It paid off in the latter sense but since I loathe the chief moderator and have many other issues with the site's social hierarchy other than Virtuoso being where he is, I stopped doing so. Proof is that you only can get colours around your profile picture if you donate money or if you 'work for the website' in some capacity. I never officially worked for the website, meaning by elimination what I did was finance it.
  4. Helped Castin and Virtuoso handle tons of abuse thrown their way (and in the earlier days, Bsh1 too), nearly single handedly being the 'suck up' to those in power, though note that Castin had no power to begin with at all and her and I celebrated her promotion/appointment even though it was a ploy by Bsh1 to use her as a 'reputation shield' for bans where he didn't want flack (mainly Wylted).
  5. Helped Bsh1 and Virtuoso with many suggestions beyond what I was suggesting to Mike. Many of the latest updates were all my original ideas communicated privately on our Trello planner. I left it because I couldn't stand working with Ramshutu and that Bsh1 was too lazy to participate at all and delayed many things in it due to MEEP-laziness, also refusing to allow me and/or Ramshutu... Even Virt... To host MEEP-type things ourselves that would have any official weight.
  6. Won all available medals, twice over (update made 2 more unearned by me, which I later earned).
  7. I won't talk much about who I did or didn't bring over, but let's just say I brought quite a few. Ramshutu doesn't want to admit who he is elsewhere, but he's here due to me mentioning debateart on CD, so was Type1 (not super proud of the latter but it did help our site gain notoriety, activity and helped me personally gain wins, none of which were prearranged, I later used our alliance in a way that Ramshutu didn't and was single-handedly exposing Type1 as Sparrow, so do not ever think my loyalty to DA was overcome by loyalty to someone abusing the system here).
I got more but that stuff's all PM-only either on here or Discord. I did a lot for the community, exposed many toxic trolls over time by intentionally being their victim if need be, so that they didn't pick on others. I am also, in private, the single most effective alt-spotter to the mods, Idk if they'll vouch for me but it's very true. I keep them posted with a lot, or did in the past at least.

MAR's ban was entirely my work in the early days but later on Ramshutu, Virtuoso and Death23 can take credit, they 'finished the job', I had reason to tiptoe around MAR because he'd votebomb me into losses with alts if I didn't respect him in public.

Yes, I blocked you and owe you zero justification for doing so even though I did fully explain it many times in the original thread where it occurred.

You're harassing me further after blocking you, constantly, by any means available so I think it's very clear how correct my decision was.
