Agreed, only 5-8 thousand people are in the KKK today for example, down from 1.2 million in the 1920s, but the right still kills more than the left despite having less people on the fringe.

The KKK is so small now that their demographics are probably less diversified, but for much of their history I wouldn't say they were opposed to either the democratic or the republican party insofar as it was not opposed to the white race and their religious affiliations.  I think they gained a foothold with the Republican party in the early 1900's.  Past that point it would still not be unusual for them to favor the democratic party 2:1.  To my knowledge, the last known (ex) KKK member to hold high office succeeded until 2010, as a Democrat.  It's possible that David Duke would be a democrat if it were not essential for him to affiliate with the republican party.  In the late 1900's the South started favoring the republican party, and he eventually switched in the late 1980's after he failed to attain office as a southern democrat.

Whether it's a movement or not the far right also demonizes certain races, these people will always exist, the best course of action is for the mainstream conservatives like me or you to distance themselves from these people, as the left should also do to Antifa.
