Explosives: lots of collateral damage. Also terrible for self-defense

Nuke: not a personal self-defense weapon

An AR-15 on the other hand... look no further than the riots to understand why someone might require a high-capacity rifle for self-defense

It's a military rifle with the automatic capability removed so there's definitely some argument to regulate these
what would be one argument?  how it looks? the caliber? what is it?

One where it is acknowledged that it is perfectly normal for the government to put limits on what weapons should be available.
and they certainly could if it wasn't for that pesky constitution forcing the government to recognize unalienable individual rights.  You should really study up on that so you understand it, same goes for free speech.

He justifies completing gun control using the fact that no right is absolute. Well guess what it’s absolute to ban guns lmao

They begin with side-by-side pages listing “Engagement Taxonomy” and “Abdication Taxonomy.” In the former, judges: focus on the facts, seek the truth, and remain impartial. In the latter, judges fudge the facts, feign ignorance, disparage people’s rights, assist the government, defer to “democracy,” and engage in “inkblotting” (i.e., ignoring parts of the Constitution that big government advocates find inconvenient).

Government may restrict freedom, but it cannot restrict rights.
In exercising freedom, one may do whatever one wishes, as long as those actions do not interfere with the rights of another.

just because the right is not absolute doesn't mean the government can infringe on it without meeting criteria and of course the supreme court.  What's happened and if people like HB could have their way they would put the onus on the citizens to show why they need their right rather than putting the burden of proof where it rightly belongs.

Honestly I was mostly trying to be charitable lol. I have a hard time thinking of one that doesn’t apply to all guns in general

Fair enough.  It's sad that we argue about these things that are barely statistically significant instead of going after what we can change easily and with far more positive outcomes

Given everything you have seen on the news , the idea that there are still people arguing for gun bans baffles the mind. It has been clearly demonstrated you are completely on your own when it comes to protecting yourself and property. The police will do nothing.

It's almost as if both sides really don't want the responsibility of changing anything *gasp*

This is definitely true, the riots have basically been a months long advertisement about how the left is wrong about gun control.

But honestly I wonder if this “Yes we do NEED it!” Argument is even the right approach. You shouldn’t have to justify “needing” something in order to own it. Swimming pools result in far more deaths per year than “assault rifles” and absolutely no one “needs” a swimming pool. But as a society we accept that the value people get out of them, getting to spend time with family and friends in the sun, exercise, the fact that statistically  very few instances do result in tragedy and people’s right to make their own choices is paramount. Why should guns be any different?

We can debate the merits of each individual regulation (some actually do make some sense and aren’t just naked power grabs imo) but I just don’t understand the worldview where a vetted, responsible gun owner shouldn’t be allowed to own an “assault rifle” and the burden is on them to prove why we shouldn’t be allowed to

what is your response to the argument that assault rifles are no different than other rifles, and so there's no need to ban them?

I absolutely agree that we shouldn’t have to justify needing a gun. However, I feel that proving the need for guns is useful in persuading the public.

I’m not sure a libertarian-esqe argument of “I should be able to own whatever I want” would resonate quite as much, but it is still important to acknowledge that.

The less ideological centrists and independents likely focus on need since gun control supposedly “saves lives”

there's no such thing as a civilian "assault rifle" so there's that, if you have some kind of specific that would be helpful, until then look up a couple of the very old and popular hunting rounds 30-06, 7mm, .308, that will get you started on the path of enlightenment and knowledge.  check out some ballistic tests too if you don't think they will give you bad dreams.
still laugh at the guy shooting the ar-15 which hurt his shoulder and gave him some ptsd, then the little girl who shoots one, smiles at the camera and says it was fun, don't be one of those "guys".

Didn't Biden say all you need is a shotgun for home defense?

that like the shotgun the guy had in Predators, pretty badass

there was a .410 semi auto, forgot how many it held, but loaded with slugs, wow, the ballistics on a .410 slug at close-ish range is impressive.
12g slugs go through doors and all sorts of shit a .223 won't.

Well thank god we finally have a Democrat like Biden that understands the stopping power of a real fire arm.

Think of how many Antifa you could mow down with a Biden approved armament?
