It's not clever, what's clever is how they (the folk behind the NASA+Roscosmos scheme) have made people like you so absolutely certain that it's the sphere they tell you it is. It is the only example in non-dicatorships where one authority has all power to tell you the truth in a field of science and no one else can audit or clash with them without their permission.

This is true even if the Earth really is Round and we are in the middle of nowhere in space, hurtling inside the milky way through nothingness.

Oh, I thought you were using the word disc in your post as a pun on my name (disc is the shortened version people often use to refer to me). I was paying you a compliment.

It's convenient that now that they found water on land that was claimed to be 100% devoid of anything even approaching atmosphere let alone water, to be worthy of inhabiting, they can now justify massive funding for a 'lunar base'. Yes, that is just very convenient.

@RationalMadman

Nope... I keep telling you that the Earth was known to be spheroid long before  the U.S.A. or N.A.S.A. were first thought of.

As I previously suggested, you appear to have a persecution complex, whereby you will always seek to find conspiracy, where no conspiracy exists.

The conspiracy exists only inside your head.

And as I keep telling you, it wasn't at all known, it was hypothesised.

@RationalMadman.

There you go, turning constructive criticism into persecution.

The Earth is spheroid, not flat, and this was a known fact long before 1958...And hypothesised  long before 1600.

Even if there is a conspiracy, you are creating a conspiracy that is current and relative to you, rather than a conspiracy relative to the historical facts.

It wasn't known at all. It was only 'known' after NASA confirmed it. You can keep trying to feign empathy and concern, you're here to make me feel insane. I am not insane, nor am I confused about the history.

Pictures were not necessary.

Though, I believe that the Soviets were the first to take a look.

Your mockery and the idea that the 'Soviets would surely expose the Americans' is based on false understanding of ambition, greed and that missiles don't require outer space, just a region outside the sky.

There was no reason for Soviet Russia to truly expose a lie that benefitted two enemy/rival superpowers at the time.

I am not going to explain more, I have come to understand that both of you (zedvictor and disc) are not here to genuinely consider that the Earth could be flat.

Around 350 BC, the great Aristotle declared that the Earth was a sphere (based on observations he made about which constellations you could see in the sky as you travelled further and further away from the equator) and during the next hundred years or so, Aristarchus and Eratosthenes actually measured the size of the Earth!

Yeah but if there are no photos then it's just a hypothesis. Everything without photos is just a hypothesis.

Does that mean that the existence of the first camera is just a hypothesis, since it couldn't take a photo of itself?

Yess, unless of course someone took a picture of it with a second camera.

I used a camera to take a picture of my phone and set that picture as the background of my phone's home page so I can see that picture and remember that phones exist every time I use my phone. Without that photograph my phone is just a hypothesis.

"Considering that the Earth could be flat".....Humans went there and did that and emphatically concluded that the Earth was spherical....And moved on.

Therefore I have no reason to think otherwise.

And interesting how some Americans still retain Soviet induced angst......Move on.... Most Russians have.

Speaking to reporters in Baltimore in 2016, following the 138th conference for the National Guard Association of the United States, the Republican Party’s presidential nominee revealed that he is a member of a growing population known generally as flat earth truthers.

That's what NASA wants you to think!!

Don't you know they control all the history textbooks!!

It is actually quite impressive they've managed to pull off this massive brainwashing scam on a shoe-string budget of only 0.5% of the federal budget. [**]

What you call "history" is just a retcon brainwashing campaign orchestrated by teh NASA!!!

Even if there is a conspiracy, you are creating a conspiracy that is current and relative to you, rather than a conspiracy relative to the historical facts.
REAL-TRUE-FACTS must necessarily be empirically demonstrable and or logically necessary (QUANTA).

HISTORY is, at best, an inductive hypothesis.

HISTORY =/= FACT

If it isn't a spheroid, no there's not. The sky is a destiny map, not a series of spherical entities.
