Or perhaps, things are meant to be because we are supposed to make them happen ourselves.

Many TV shows and movies approach time travel differently.
Most common is the butterfly effect, in which a small change can lead to a drastically different future.
The butterfly effect is a good philosophical tool: When asked if you could change a horrific historical event, it’s almost instinct for us to think “yeah, I’d change it.” But then you realize how many people would cease to exist today, simply because the tragedy did not happen.
The Butterfly effect.
Philosophy or fantasy?

If you mean, can little differences or actions lead to big outcomes,
I'd think yes, and consider such to be Philosophy and Science.

@Lemming
In the present and future tenses, for sure.
Though the butterfly effect is something of a fantasy concept, which I don't think is the same as learning from experience.
Because in terms of human conflict for example, we have never learned.

My point here is that, despite to evils in history, good can come from it in the end

The parable of the Taoist Farmer
"There was once a farmer in ancient China who owned a horse. “You are so lucky!” his neighbors told him, “to have a horse to pull the cart for you.” “Maybe,” the farmer replied.
One day he didn’t latch the gate properly and the horse ran away. “Oh no! That is terrible news!” his neighbors cried. “Such bad luck!” “Maybe,” the farmer replied.
A few days later the horse returned, bringing with it six wild horses. “How fantastic! You are so lucky,” his neighbors told him. “Maybe,” the farmer replied.
The following week the farmer’s son was breaking-in one of the wild horses when it threw him to the ground, breaking his leg. “Oh no!” the neighbors cried. “Such bad luck, all over again!” “Maybe,” the farmer replied.
The next day soldiers came and took away all the young men to fight in the army. The farmer’s son was left behind. “You are so lucky!” his neighbors cried. “Maybe,” the farmer replied."

Hmmmmm.
I would suggest that the best we can learn from the past, is how we could improve things in the future.
And though there might be an improvement in thinking in some societies, there is still a long way to go in other societies that are dogged by archaic separatism, ideology and resentment.

Awesome parable
If DART is shutting down soon, sucks to lose this thread
We’ll be able to start a new one tho
One of the biggest threads on DART btw

@Mharman
@Possible DART shutdown
Yeah, that does suck.
Hopefully there is still an archive option, that we can recover certain debates and forums.

Internet archive
The machine goes way back, yknow?
DART lives on
I always liked the idea, while Debate.org and DART were 'both active,
Of Debate.org being a temporary exile zone or prison, for DART to send problem users to.
Feeling a 'strong urge to break some rules I disagree with, for the principle of Freedoms sake, protest and all that.
. . .
Course I also dislike the idea of myself committing a number of the actions the rules appear to be banning,
. . .
Ah, paradox.
. . .
Well, also I might 'need my profile, if a download history option becomes available later.
Whew, no more conflict of values, as Self Interest for me, is a heavy weight, on the scale of decisions.
"I am afraid I am short on time to read the whole thread, but don't worry, the domain won't expire and I keep on paying for the hosting, so the website should continue running just fine. And I will try to work harder on finding the replacement." - DebateArt.com
Ah, that's what you meant. #1605
Well, that is good.
I didn't notice that till now.
Course 'now I no longer have as weighty of a Self Interest weight on the scale now,
If there is no immediate danger of site shutdown and missing out on archive option.
. . .
Welll, I'm not 'as irritated as I 'first was when I read something.
Good sometimes to remove oneself in time and space, before returning and acting.
Eh, let's watch where the wind blows a bit, first then.
