Do you have any thoughts about Dr. Jordan Peterson and his controversial messages?

He's easy listening....He has a sort of sing song pitch.

But I find that I end up, not having really listened to a word that he said.

Though I think that this is quite a common phenomena.

Unless we are actively motivated to acquire specific data, internal receptors will not respond.

Sometimes regarded as ignorance, I suppose.

And probably why I always day dreamed in Sunday School.

And why my wife keeps saying.....You weren't listening were you.

I always blame the wax.

And  like you will probably not bother to acquire anything I have written here.

Personally, I prefer reading, to listening, when people are making arguments,
Allows me to glance back easy, at that previously said.

Though listening to music or spectacle, is enjoyable.

I think he comes from common sense and I don't find anything he says controversial but more like stating the blatantly obvious.

He is a clinical psycologist. Whatever data he uses, it isn't simply "common sense". The question is whether or not his messages are correct conclusions from his field.

My opinion still stands. Life isn't complicated, it only takes one day to change it.

Is that how you became atheist, or was it more complicated than that?

How do you extrapolate that I am an atheist? This should be interesting reading.

I recall you making an atheistic argument about Santa Clause/Christmas. I told you that could apply to Christianity. You agreed. Then I asked if you became atheist. You more or less said yes. I forgot where we had the conversation.

You have me confused with someone else, at no point in my life have I ever claimed to be an atheist in any way shape or form. I believe in a creator but detest organized religion. But anyway my point still stands, life isn't complicated. I know, been alive for almost 60 years and nothing about those 60 years was even remotely complicated to understand or deal with.

And I said something along the lines of ‘congratulations I guess.’ I’m 95% sure it was you.

Either you have superhuman intelligence, or you don’t challenge yourself at all. Which do you think I’m willing to bet on?

Well done.

Luck and Judgement, no doubt.

Such contentment eludes most.

@Reece101

Why challenge oneself.

If challenging oneself, challenges contentment.

Why challenge oneself.

If challenging oneself, challenges contentment
Why drive oneself.

If driving oneself, crashes a car.

I find both equivalently nonsensical. Can you please elaborate?

Why should Sadolite challenge himself, if he is content with what he has?

And I'm not sure that your driving analogy is at all equivalent.

Could you please elaborate?

You suggested that Sadolite might not challenge himself.

And I questioned why should he need to.

Or why should anyone challenge themself, if they are content.

Have you actually responded to that enquiry.

Saying someone does not do something doesn’t inherently imply they should.

This is my response.

I agree.

But this is a discussion website.

And your comment had obvious implications.

So even if you weren't implying that they should.....Why did you suggest that someone perhaps didn't "challenge yourself at all".

My question was only relative to the necessity of challenge.....Which was a statement undeniably made as a considered proposal on your part..

Just not what you were asserting.

Someone who says “life isn’t complicated, it only takes one day to change it.” is obviously ignorant due to lack of nuance.

So your response as to why life is complicated is because of your "subconscious"? Please elaborate, what is complicated about that? I think about shit, who doesn't?   I think you confuse life being hard sometimes with being complicated. Here is all you have to do to live in todays world. Get at least an 8th grade education, then get a job, find a place to live, go to the grocery store to get food, do your laundry, pay your bills, buy cloths with what you have left over. That is all you need to live. Everything else is a luxury. Sure you could point out stupid details like take the garbage out ect. But it aint no more complicated than that.

"Sadolite might not challenge himself."   What some think of as a challenge others think of as an amusing hobby to pass time.. For instance, some consider auto mechanics difficult and hard or making precision parts on a lathe hard or remodeling kitchens and bathrooms hard.  I don't, I do it for fun and amusement, oh with the added benefit of thousands of dollars in extra beer money and new toys. I don't want to be rich, fuck that, that's a pain in the ass. But being rich isn't complicated, its stressful , hard and requires lots and lots of over time work.. Someone is always trying to take your money when you are rich. I want for nothing and sometimes have two uncashed paychecks in my wallet from my full time job. Life is good life is easy for those who work and don't spend their money foolishly. Not being a fool isn't complicated by the way.

What’s the coherent point you’re trying to make, if there is one?

What about substance abuse? Does it just take one day to change it? What does it take?

It’s obvious sadolite did not take into account the plethora of life defining situations which can be controlled, but are difficult.

I think sadolite has a point,
But it's not so easy to 'follow a path, even when seen.

Thick skin, stiff upper lip, enduring, stoic,
Even for people practiced, find difficulty, I think.

People know 'how to lose weight (Though some don't have the genetics for such)
But the psychology of it,
Habits, addictions, preferences, ruts to overcome,
'Don't 'come, so easy.

One gets 'used to doing taxes over time,
But we weren't required to do them in school, become used to them.

. . .

Relationships ended, not end of the world,
One can see as spilt milk, other fish in the sea,
But 'again, not everyone has thick skin.
(NOT saying you're thick skinned or unfeeling, sadolite)

Just I've felt life was hard myself at times,
And have seen many other people at times in their life when they found life hard.

. .

I 'do think there are methods and ways to go about life,
That makes it easier,
Both in how one views life, and how one acts.
Personally, I like shopping at Goodwill, or getting clearance food when it's cheap.
Though I don't have whatever item I want, as I could from Amazon,
A book or DVD is cheaper at Goodwill, I've found.
