This is not a stereotypical thing. Ok maybe it is, but because it is so common.

This is not applied in all cultures, it is just something I see in the "mainstream" western or even oriental culture.

But seriously what purpose does it serve?

Women's fashion is meant to signal status. They signal status by showing how little they have to do because their man takes care of them. Long hair is more inconvenient than short hair so is a status symbol. This is why they also wear really tight clothes and high heels they can barely walk in, to signal they don't really need to be mobile anyway because of their status. The Japanese took this to the extreme by the way by having females do feet binding to signal that status

First, I don’t need to.

Second, that is why I am asking. I don’t just automatically come with knowledge.

@Poly.

There is actually nothing to know, as such.

All signals and responses are pre-programmed, as it were.

Laying and the internal necessity for, is an essential species survival mechanism.

Nonetheless, it is true that the evolved species does have a tendency to apply overthink.

Though I think if funny, that the modern trend is to remove all the hair that is not generally seen and spend a fortune titivating the stuff on top of the head.

Such are the mating rituals of humans.

I wish my hair can stop growing. It just simplifies things out. For example, I don't have to carry my pint-sized hair shampoo bottle from the constant motionage of my homes if there is no hair to begin with.

More than that, I wish having no hair is more normalized than it is, and as normalized as the most stereotypical hairstyles in society.

I think it's to own a self perception of being fragile. Same with high-heels and long nails.

Personally I agree.

Hair is something of a nuisance.

That is the problem with society. The beauty standard today involves more extravagant hair and if I am bald, chances are that my school would maybe even scold me for being different. IDK why, maybe they have a drone on top of the field. That is what I find unattractive(or just plain grudge) about today's beauty standards. Pretend I wrote this on the other topic.

Are you referring to buns or what?

Swiss buns for sure.

They are my current/currant favourites.

They're like a Chelsea bun but with icing and cherries.

What's your favourite bun.

And just say that you're a Buddhist.

I'd suppose less hair is easier to make/keep clean, look sharp,
That shorter hair might get reputation for a tidy look,
Since people not concerned with their hair might look dirty with long hair, but not short hair.

Men often involved in war in history,
Hair is a location pests might roost, spread disease.

Women in history less often seen as providers, working jobs I mean, though lot of work at home I imagine, depending on one's financial level,
But women more time or expectation to look nice, kept as accessories to men (I view this as bad) than autonomous.

When gas masks came about in war,
Cutting of facial hair came about,
Many modern militaries like to control people, conform them,
Top of head close to beard.

. . .

I don't know about oriental cultures though,
I think I remember reading about Taiping male followers often having long unbound hair.

Lot of older works I read often have some oriental cultures with male top knots, buns, or some name I don't know.

. .

I recall reading a book called Spider Eaters, in which it claimed a man was beaten during the Cultural Revolution for having long hair,
Supposedly a mark of the bourgeoisie, or intellectuals, I think.
. . .
Even in America during the Hippie era, I'm sure many cops, military, business guys, didn't like men with long hair, patriotism/nationalism driving such as hippies tended to be anti war I think.
Probable people got targeted for attire or hair.

I must say I dont see long hair as feminine as long as you are not clean shaven.

In contrast, short head hair is always going to look masculine.

There is your answer.

In all nonhuman mammals, men are the hairier beings all over, hair is masculine but short hair on a human head appears masculine, that is just the truth.

Short hair being masculine is a Western industrialization thing. People capable of understanding that hair means nothing when it comes to being masculine or feminine just assume one thing or another because they've been sold something for so long they think it's true. But hey us religious people are the dumbest most gullible people on the planet. Meanwhile, there are native peoples who keep their hair short because they live in a desert climate and help keeps them cooler and there native peoples who keep their hair long because they believe it's a spiritual thing and both men and women do it.

The practice of foot binding was actually Chinese.

If you can't be bothered to learn specifics, just say Asian. At least that way you're still right. Better to demonstrate some general knowledge than say something specific and be wrong.

Women = beauty (unless she is FAT)

Beauty = long hair (unless she is FAT)

Long hair on women = beauty (unless she is FAT)

Women MUST HAVE a very specific asymmetric facial structure to beautify short hair.

Women tend to have long hair than men on average due to societal norms, cultural influences, and biological factors.
Societal and cultural norms have historically associated longer hair with femininity, beauty, and grace. These norms have shaped women's grooming practices, encouraging them to maintain longer locks. Additionally, hairstyles have often been a means of self-expression, and women have more frequently embraced this form of personal identity.
Biologically, men and women can grow hair to similar lengths, but hormonal differences can affect the rate of hair growth. Women tend to have higher estrogen levels, which can promote longer hair growth during the anagen (growth) phase of the hair cycle.
However, it's essential to note that gender norms regarding hair length are evolving. Many men and individuals of various gender identities now sport long hair, challenging traditional conventions. Hair length is a personal choice, and cultural perceptions are gradually adapting to a more inclusive view of diverse hairstyles.

Why do women tend to have longer hair than men on average?
Because they look better that way.

I'm willing to guess that it's applied in most cultures.

it is just something I see in the "mainstream" western or even oriental culture.
I've seen it elsewhere.

But seriously what purpose does it serve?
So men will know whom and whom not to boink.
