The Reagan, Bush and Trump tax cuts were mostly a giveaway to the rich, cutting taxes for this country’s wealthiest people.

Republicans are again proposing the government cut Social Security and Medicare benefits that seniors rely on. They are trying to use the debt ceiling limit as leverage to get Democrats to agree.

Medicare could be strengthened by raising the Medicare tax from its current 1.45% rate for employee and employer. What would you rather do, pay another half percent tax or pay for your mother’s hip replacement yourself?

Social Security could be strengthened by changing the cap on earnings taxed to tax incomes over 500K, similar to the additional Medicare tax created to fund Obamacare. What would you rather do, see the rich pay the same percent on income as the middle class or have your parents move in with you in their old age?

Is an issue. However, the circumstances are unfavorable to support cheaper healthcare for seniors. There is no doubt that putting more money in healthcare will result in lack of money for other things, and will increase inflation.

They are trying to use the debt ceiling limit as leverage to get Democrats to agree.
Is a valuable thing to consider. Debt is a big problem. If it continues to rise at this rate, we will reach the point where too much money is being printed. Economy relies on currency to function. Historically, printing too much money usually didnt have benefits for the country doing it.

I think the Democrat plan for saving Social Security is far better. Raise the debt limit to infinity and beyond!

In the private sector, this is what happens when you follow the Democrat plan.

Medicare could be strengthened by raising the Medicare tax from its current 1.45% rate for employee and employer.
So why haven't Democrats done that for the past 50 years? Oh yeah! cause Democrats aren't going to fix it either.

Not when they can push Obamacare legislation written by Medical lobbyists to the tune of 10k pages of giveaways to the rich.

Here are five healthcare industries that thrive under the new law:

1) Big Hospitals:
2) Medicaid servicers:
3) Digital healthcare data providers:
4) Private healthcare exchanges:
5) Big Pharma

According to a 2009 report, “Almost 30 key lawmakers” involved in drafting the legislation “have financial holdings in the industry, totaling nearly $11 million worth of personal investments.” Then-SFC member John Kerry (D-MA) and his wife held “at least $5.2 million in companies such as Merck and Eli Lilly.” The personal interest of key policymakers thus lay in safeguarding and increasing the profits of healthcare corporations.

If you can hold your breath another 50 years, you can experience even more treachery and broken promises from the Democrats.

Ask the question "which political party is the party of the rich?" There is only one correct answer.

Yes.

Trump increased the national debt by 8 trillion and now Republicans want to create a crisis by not increasing the debt limit to pay for Trumps spending.

They think the Democrats should pay for Trump's spending, just like they thought the Mexicans should pay for Trump's wall.

Yes, that would be far better, says every rational person ever.

If you want to get serious about reducing our deficit the time to do that is when the credit card is being swiped, not when the bill comes in the mail.

The proverbial credit card swiping here mostly occurred during the Trump administration when he was adding $2 trillion to the debt in order to give the rich like himself a tax break, along with the rest of his policies. No one on the political right gave a rats ass about it then, but all of a sudden it matters now that there’s a democrat in the White House.

Funny thing is that we all said then this is exactly what they were going to do. It’s beyond hypocrisy at this point. There’s just something about right wing politics where its base gets a hard on watching its politicians pretend to be serious while peddling obvious bullshit. Politics isn’t about real issues in real life to these people, it’s just a team sport, which is pathetic.

Yea, and Biden thinks the citizens on our borders should just "deal with" all the immigration crime.
But when we send a couple of busses of immigrants to there doorstep, then they all start freaking out.

Nobody freaks out when Republican's pull those stupid stunts, they only do it because it gives the Trump base an erection.

Name me once during any time in the past 50 years Democrats were in control of Congress when the debt ceiling was NOT raised.

Try it.

It really does baffle me how you two could be so praising of a political party that has delivered nothing on any promise for over 50 years.

50 years of promising to tax the rich, yet never doing it. 50 years of promising to fix social programs heading toward bankruptcy, never doing it. 50 years of Democrat voters asking for government healthcare, best they can do for the the voters is Obamacare with a tax mandate on the middle class that funnels money directly to the pockets of the rich: big hospital and big pharma lobbies.

It's like a bad Fellini movie about Pawn Stars....

What “tax mandate on the middle class”?

The policy for healthcare in America should be simple - Everyone gets it and Everyone pays, even if the poor only pay a little.

The debt ceiling has always been raised. Until 2011 when republicans lead by Mitch McConnell decided to hold the full faith and credit if the United States hostage, the debt ceiling vote was a quiet routine non-controversial vote which no one even even noticed.

Why are you pretending that your question leads to some kind of point here?

It really does baffle me how you two could be so praising of a political party that has…
Pointing out the utter absurdity and depravity of one political party is not praising the other. That’s common sense to anyone who cares about good faith conversation.

50 years of promising to tax the rich, yet never doing it.
That’s news to every republican politician across the country.

50 years of promising to fix social programs heading toward bankruptcy, never doing it.
You mean the ones they have had to fend off republicans from trying to destroy? That can make fixing issues quite difficult.

50 years of Democrat voters asking for government healthcare, best they can do for the the voters is Obamacare with a tax mandate on the middle class that funnels money directly to the pockets of the rich: big hospital and big pharma lobbies.
So it’s the democrats fault for trying to fix healthcare in a bipartisan way, and instead of some kind of single payer system that every democrat wanted and they had the supermajority needed to accomplish… decided to work with republicans and ultimately put in place a system they created and advocated for years.

I agree with you, we missed a big opportunity there by trying to play nice with children whose only interest was smudging their feces all over the walls. It’s just a strange retort coming from someone who is clearly on the political right.

Eh, no reason to pass the buck on that one. Democrats passed that bill with no Republican votes needed at all. There was no appeasement of the "children" on that one.

Democrats fully own that broken promise.

The debt ceiling has always been raised.

Yes, why do you think that is a good thing that this is a go-to policy for the Democrats? Is this something you think Americans really want? Increasing debt that drives decreasing prosperity?

At some point, the bubble will have to burst, when the American Congress runs out of lenders.

Do you even know what the debt ceiling is?

Or let’s just try something simpler; If you find that you are slowly digging yourself into debt because you are living beyond your means, do you

A) Stop using your credit cards to pay for thing you don’t have the money to purchase, or

B) Refuse to pay the bill once it arrives?

Please answer directly. Thanks.

Or choice C:

Do what both Democrats and Republicans do and get a new credit card to pay the debt on the old credit card.

You mean the ones they have had to fend off republicans from trying to destroy?
Don't pretend you never knew Democrats borrowed from the surpluses from social program trustfunds to pay for the spending they voted for.

Democrats don't give a flying crap about the future of your social programs.

C is not an alternative. The two options for the analogy were different ways to maintain fiscal responsibility. You provided a third option that had nothing to do with that.

The point of analogies like this is to simplify the issue to make it easier to understand and disagreements easier to pin point where the differences are. All you have accomplished is to further demonstrate that you do not understand this issue even at its most basic level.

Do you even know what the debt ceiling is?
