“All of this amounts to a historic achievement. Not only did the ACA survive multiple attempts by Republicans to repeal the law and reduce outreach, but it also managed to drive down uninsured rate to a record low of 8 percent last year. That’s in large part because of the Biden administration’s competent management of the program and extension of subsidies over united GOP opposition”

“In the midterms, almost no Republican — other than Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin — talked about repealing the ACA. That might be because the ACA is widely used in red states. Nine of the 10 states with the highest enrollment rates are led by Republicans. In other words, red states are getting a ride on the federal program their political leaders have long lambasted.

Most of those users are in blue cities in red states. Places like Jacksonville or Dallas or Charlotte. So absolute shitholes ruined by liberal policies that just happen to reside in red states. You don't see red cities like Jupiter Florida, needing the ACA.

That is about as retarded as you can get to think the rich red areas in blue cities are the ones benefiting more from the ACA than poor black areas.

There are no “rich” areas in red states. These are the welfare states that rely on blue states like New York, California, and Massachusetts to pay all the bills for the losers who can’t earn in red states like Kentucky, Florida, and Mississippi.

Lol, gotta love the short circuit in the NPC brain when calling Democrats the party of the poor and the party of the rich in the same sentence.

There are homeless people in every state, in urban and rural areas. As an airline pilot I have stayed in cities all over the country.

But blue states have much bigger economies and pay more taxes than the red states.

That’s bullshit. I’ve seen skid rows in Salt Lake City, Memphis, Nashville, Cincinnati, and plenty of other red states and cities.

He is also full of shit about skid row not being a very unique thing. Homeless are everywhere but that place looks like a 3rd world country and Is entirely the fault of Democrats.

A person of below average intelligence can pass the ASVAB, but I just can't imagine he even crosses that threshold. He hinted around that the IQ was meaningless earlier, so he clearly did not like his results.

Utah almost always has a Republican Governor and State Legislature majority.

So if we can’t blame them for homelessness in Utah then we can’t blame California’s Governor Newsom for homelessness anywhere in California, right?

If you tell me an American city is not a shithole, I can pretty well guess their political party.  Look at this idiot. He is literally trying to blame republican governors for what is happening in blue cities that basically ignore their state government.

The cities are blue, the rural states are red.

Poor voters vote for democrats 52 to 42.  Rich voters vote Republican 52 to 42 according to Wiki (the only vote I found that said something about it).  This isn’t a big correlation between wealth and voting patterns though, but poor republicans almost certainly vote on non economic issues (abortion, CRT, vaccine mandates, 2nd amendment).  Many poor voters are poor because they had a kid they couldn’t afford to raise, so they are going to be more pro life than the rich liberal that aborted their unwanted kid (I’m not saying ALL rich people abort, but they are more likely to because unwanted pregnancies make you poor).  The poor are more willing to be unvaccinated.  Even right wing billionaires like Musk have had 2 boosters.  Vaccine mandates have made poor people more republican.

If people voted solely on taxes, republicans would win every national election.  The poor would vote democrat, but middle class families (who are more common) don’t want to pay for the welfare of the poor, so they would vote Republican.  The middle class also have positive feelings about the 1%.  They own stock in companies managed by the 1%.  The middle class like good schools, but no politician is advocating banning public school. That’s about the only left wing economic policies the middle class support, and the right doesn’t want to ban public school.

Well, they wouldn’t be able to afford generous welfare policies for their poor citizens without the help of blue states. But dem voters are the ones who want those things in the first place so I don’t see what the complaint is about. Places like Texas and Florida have a lot of human capital and would absolutely have powerhouse economies on their own, but given the density of poor citizens who go to places like that in the hopes of getting ahead they probably couldn’t afford a generous welfare state. Even a place like Mississippi would always be economically relevant due to its location on the Mississippi River. Do you resent welfare policies that help people in other states? Are you a big advocate for federalism?

there are lots of rich places in red states lol…in many cases they’re the areas keeping it red

Household income map by neighborhood (it starts at county level and racial data but change it to income and just keep zooming in):   http://www.justicemap.org

There are wealthy and poor places that are bastions for each party. In the south in particular you have poor rural areas that vote GOP, poor urban areas that vote Dem, and rich suburbs that decide the issue and vote GOP. And relative to cost of living many rural areas aren’t necessarily poor although a lot are by any reasonable standard

I don’t think blue states should have to fund red states. No state should get more from the federal government than it sends.

For instance, I don’t think farmers in Iowa should get more money from the Federal government than the state of Iowa sends in tax money. Whatever Federal income tax comes in to the US Treasury from Iowa’s businesses and individuals in 2022, that should be the maximum pot of money they get from the Feds in 2023 to divide up however the state wants to.

So Iowans support Iowans, not New Yorkers support Iowans. But this policy would just kill the red welfare states.

Look, we all know where the money is. The states with the biggest economies and tax receipts are no secret. The Northeast and California is where by far most of the money comes from. It’s also where most of the people live.

40 million in California

40 million combined in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut.

That’s 80 million people in just 5 blue states. 25% of the American population lives in 5 states.

So you’re a big advocate of federalism then. The logic breaks down pretty rapidly though unless you’re willing to pivot towards way more states rights. For example, if we aren’t all entitled to the same benefits (like having the same social security formula, the same formula for who qualifies for welfare or food stamps and how much etc) but it’s based on the state you live in, why should a wealthy person in a rich state pay the same tax rate as a wealthy person in a more well off state if his fellow citizens don’t reap any of the benefits? Under your system a rich person in Mississippi would have to pay a lot in federal taxes but poor people in Mississippi wouldn’t get that revenue. I don’t see why the states would agree to this unless they're given leeway on their own tax and fiscal policies and the federal government stays out completely.

You also create a strong incentive for states to fight over the most productive citizens and offload the most expensive ones to other states. Is that really a position you want to put people in, as a leftist? Texas or New York or wherever doing whatever they can to force their poor people to move?

California -  blue
Texas - red
New York - blue
Florida - red
Illinois - blue
Pennsylvania - purple
Ohio - red
Michigan - purple
Georgia - purple
North Carolina - purple

People also move between states. Florida for example a lot of people retire to, so it

No, I’m saying that the money a rich person in Mississippi pays would go back to Mississippi to help his fellow Mississippians. And the states would get to decide how to spend all the money they get back from the Feds that was paid to the US Treasury in federal income taxes.

Well I don’t know how a state can “offload” expensive citizens. I’m a progressive liberal who thinks rich liberals shouldn’t have to give money to poor conservatives in another state.

Your population numbers look correct. So my plan should work just fine. Except population doesn’t always equate to earnings and tax receipts.

Ohio has a lot of people but the state has a dying economy in post industrial America. Columbus is doing a lot better than Cleveland and Cincinnati.

Most of your money doesn't actually go to any American of any party.
