Cool, a new forum. Dunno how often I'll use it, but it's nice to have.

Will it 'last though?

"An ostracon (Greek: ὄστρακον ostrakon, plural ὄστρακα ostraka) is a piece of pottery, usually broken off from a vase or other earthenware vessel. In an archaeological or epigraphical context, ostraca refer to sherds or even small pieces of stone that have writing scratched into them. Usually these are considered to have been broken off before the writing was added; ancient people used the cheap, plentiful and durable broken pieces of pottery around them as a convenient medium to write on for a wide variety of purposes, mostly very short inscriptions, but in some cases very long."

I sometimes think about the digital age,
And what will or won't last,
There's so 'much information,
But then,
Has always been a lot of information in history, and lacking means to store it,
Library gets burned down,
Or that warehouse of books is needed for some other purpose.

The thing about historical information is that we have no way of actually knowing if it represents fact or fiction.

We can't assume that everything written on a metaphorical shard of pottery is factually correct.

I'd love to have a great discussion on whether McCarthyism was necessary to end the Cold War.

Not necessarily a debate on it because idk if I am as knowledgeable as historians might be on it. But it would be awesome to discuss the necessity of it.

McCarthy,
Some politician being a lying jack,
Getting people blacklisted and fired,
Had some paper he claimed had a list of Communists.

People eventually had enough and pushed back,
McCarthy found himself politically discredited and shunned.

Did it make people less rabid towards Communism, after feeling they went to far?

Which people when?

It's quiz night 200 years from now.

How many people will know who was the 45 President of the United States of America.

And then they will be shown a picture and go WOW.

People used to be orange.

Nah....Not sinister enough and too orange

More of bragging show-off  like Mussolini.

Ask most kids these days, who was Mussolini?

And they will reply...Musso-who.

Give him 4 more years to grow on you

Lincoln was remembered for starting the civil war with his election, but he is also remembered for ending it.

So you think that he has a chance of becoming the next President?

Are the American people really that gullible and  irresponsible?
