.."A story in the New York Times today by Jonathan Swan, Charlie Savage, and Maggie Haberman outlined how former president Donald Trump and his allies are planning to create a dictatorship if voters return him to power in 2024. The article talks about how Trump and his loyalists plan to “centralize more power in the Oval Office” by “increasing the president’s authority over every part of the federal government that now operates, by either law or tradition, with any measure of independence from political interference by the White House.” ....

....“What we’re trying to do is identify the pockets of independence and seize them,” said Russell T. Vought, who ran Trump’s Office of Management and Budget and who now advises the right-wing House Freedom Caucus.

......They envision a “president” who cannot be checked by the Congress or the courts.

....Trump’s desire to grab the mechanics of our government and become a dictator is not new; both scholars and journalists have called it out since the early years of his administration. What is new here is the willingness of so-called establishment Republicans to support this authoritarian power grab.

.....Behind this initiative is “Project 2025,” a coalition of more than 65 right-wing organizations putting in place personnel and policies to recommend not just to Trump, but to any Republican who may win in 2024. Project 2025 is led by the Heritage Foundation, once considered a conservative think tank, that helped to lead the Reagan revolution. "....

How would this supposed future dictatorship be any different than the one we are living under now?

Huh? Dude are really that clueless to how a Putin style dictator-ship operates?

Britannca...."
dictatorship, form of government in which one person or a small group possesses absolute power without effective constitutional limitations. The term dictatorship comes from the Latin title dictator, which in the Roman Republic designated a temporary magistrate who was granted extraordinary powers in order to deal with state crises. Modern dictators, however, resemble ancient tyrants rather than ancient dictators. Ancient philosophers’ descriptions of the tyrannies of Greece and Sicily go far toward characterizing modern dictatorships.

......Dictators usually resort to force or fraud to gain despotic political power, which they maintain through the use of intimidation, terror, and the suppression of basic civil liberties. They may also employ techniques of mass propaganda in order to sustain their public support.

.....With the decline and disappearance in the 19th and 20th centuries of monarchies based on hereditary descent, dictatorship became one of the two chief forms of government in use by nations throughout the world, the other being constitutional democracy.

.....Rule by dictators has taken several different forms. In Latin America in the 19th century, various dictators arose after effective central authority had collapsed in the new nations recently freed from Spanish colonial rule. These caudillos, or self-proclaimed leaders, usually led a private army and tried to establish control over a territory before marching upon a weak national government. Antonio López de Santa Anna in Mexico and Juan Manuel de Rosas in Argentina are examples of such leaders. (See personalismo.) Later 20th-century dictators in Latin America were different. They were national rather than provincial leaders and often were put in their position of power by nationalistic military officers.

.......They usually allied themselves with a particular social class, and attempted either to maintain the interests of wealthy and privileged elites or to institute far-reaching left-wing social reforms."....

.."In their book, Spin Dictators: The Changing Face of Tyranny in the 21st Century, Daniel Treisman and Sergei Guriev argued that modern dictators rely more on the manipulation of information than on more traditional methods such as repression, especially on a mass scale. This was also true of Putin up to a certain point, but it became clear back in 2020—the year that the Russian constitution was changed to allow him to remain in power beyond his present term, and also the year that the opposition leader Alexei Navalny was poisoned—that his “spin dictatorship” was degenerating into something more uncompromising and repressive. Putin, who retreated to his bunker during the pandemic and has never really left it, has become increasingly embittered and ruthless, as has his system, based on the complete subjugation of the political and economic establishment and the silent assent of the masses."....

Trump used the concept of the Big Lie which he got reading Mein Kampf. We have a voting base that believes big lies. This will eventually destroy the USA.

Some low intellect brain dead con man President will some day say that he heard France is going to nuke us so we must launch all our nuclear missiles

into France.

 A bipartisan Senate report found that at least seven people had lost their lives in connection with the Jan. 6 attack.
Trump should be charged with  Gross Negligence manslaughter.

Oh Trump, our sorrow knows no bounds,
Your lies and hate have left us astounded;
Your policies and promises have all been broken,
Your lies are an unspoken token.

Your destruction has left us in dismay,
The scars of your rule will never go away;
Your supporters have all been misled,
Their trust you have cruelly fed.

The damage you have done is clear,
Your legacy will remain in fear;
Your hatred has left a deep scar,
That will stay with us forever more.

Your legacy will never be forgotten,
Your lies and destruction will be rotten;
No amount of words can describe,
Our sorrow, pain and despise.
