In school's required readings, have there been any books that stand out in your memory, if so, why?

To be honest, I really enjoyed Maus, the graphic novel about the guy who talks to his dad about surviving the Holocaust. The reason it was so memorable for me is that I remember hearing my Grandmother tell me about the colonization of Alaska and what that was like, and a lot of the conflicting emotions Spiegelman talks about resonated with me and got me to take my Grandmother's story seriously instead of trying to avoid it.
