The Economist on Gun Deaths

@TheDredPriateRoberts
Well,  communicable and non-communicable diseases are generally preventable and account for a vast majority of deaths. But humanity as a whole is doing alot to combat that as is, and our reaponse times to (N)CD's has gotten lightning quick. For example, Ebola. The area it hit was not capable of coping with the outbreak, but within a short time, that area was blanketed with disease control and medical professionals.

Its hard to say much substantial can be done that already isnt in terms of that. And people have to feel like they are in support of a rightcheous cause, hence the focus on guns.

I mean, the article itself states

FOR more than 500 years guns have been responsible for meting out violence

Right away which is a specious view of history that ignores that the advent of guns, and the industrial revolution that allowed the relatively cheap manufacturing of them, wholly tipped the scales to the advantage of the people, and not the state. This advent played a crucial role in accelerating colonization into the realm of total infeasibility(its too expensive and too much effort to control nations as colonies).

These are the same kinds of people who will tout Marxist principles all the while ignoring even Marx saw an armed populace as necessary to achieving his principles being adopted universally 🤔

My grandma just passed yesterday from Alzheimer's/vascular degeneration. It was rather painful for her and she essentially starved to death cause the degeneration hit the point where she couldnt eat or sleep.

I shudder to think that kind of death is a potential for me given both her and my grandpa had Alzheimer's. Liver and Kidney failure got my grandpa ultimately though. Still, i would honestly rather prefer a quick death then a slow painful one.

Thats beside the point though, the point of this was to show how absurd statistical leading to conclusions is getting when it comes to media.

Gun violence has killed 6.5m people worldwide since 1990

Interesting, because not a damn thing about how many total deaths there were globally in that time span. Its ok, I looked it up.

Starting in 1990 there were per the chart, 45 million deaths. In 2016 there were about 55 million. Average out the totals over that span and you arrive at about 50 million per year on average.

So 50m × 26(years) = about 1.3 billion deaths between 1990 and 2016.

>6.5 million
>1.3 billion

Thats .05% of all death.

.05%

Welp, in old news, people are stupid 😂😂

Having another person capable of at least some illusory spells wouldn't be a bad idea. Plus fog cloud def would go well in combo with it. Minor illusion to trick enemies into thinking you or someone else ran into said fog cloud, so they chase after right off, as you said yourself, a cliff, is a definite clever combination 🤔

And unless a three-way deal is negotiated by the end of the week, the U.S. Congress will not be able to approve it by the time Obrador takes office,

In the press announcement Trump said it was going forward with or without Canada. I was watching it, but here is a BBC article about it

Sounds like the plan is to either get Canada to agree by the deadline, or go ahead with a new one with Mexico to the exclusion of Canada.

But, I think a deal gets agreed to with Canada by the deadline 👌[1]

And I'll point out, its 4 or more, not more than 4. and thats derived from the FBI not classifying 3 or less  killed as a mass shooting, though there is no actual legal definition. Whatever definitions or metrics used to differentiate, also tends to vary based on outlet and agenda 🤔

the definition of a mass shooting is over four people killed, not including the gunman. the example you gave shows a man killing his wife and three kids, and then himself.
Now, I may not be a rocket scientist, but last I checked 1+3 = 4 not including the man 🤔

Wow, i never provided link for first post😂

Like, i can understand wanting to save lives, but if we are going to view things primarily through the lens of utility and harm reduction therein, then lives lost is only one part of that even still. Deterrance plays a role, and that deterrance can amount to only a non serious crime being committed, or no crime at all.

Ex: Person X walking down street at night, person Y starts running up from behind. Person X pulls out gun and turns and aims. Person Y sees gun, and bolts away. No crime has been committed, police are liable to tell you to come back when a crime has actually been committed if you want to file a complaint 🤔

Its wholly possible in such scenarios no crime would have been committed, but its also wholly possible a crime would have been. So though its true that person Y with no gun would likely = no loss of life, it wouldn't deter the potentiality of crime. Gun in situation though likely = no loss of life, and likely = deterrance of crime in general. All in a scenario you would not find out about unless you surveyed, because criminal complaints otherwise might not even be accepted.

you're not going to pull the "black skin race person has no agency when the white devil gives him bad stuff" card are you?

I doubt it, that would just necessitate the conclusion that no person has agency and thus no person is at fault for their actions. It would be self defeating to what seems to be his opinion that somebody is to blame. Cant blame someone who lacks agency after all 🤔

One of the two in your pfp was a huge proponent of gun ownership and the second amendment btw🤔. Guess who supported his view as well as supported groups like the Black Panthers right to bear arms? You better believe the NRA did, and still would.

Like i said, its rather interesting that you would state something is more of a non racial issue, but yet still primarily view the situation through the lens of race. I can perhaps understand why you would, rather its that you acknowledge that's the improper lens, but continue to use said lens near exclusively 🤔.

But perhaps the Elder White Males who profit in the NRA and ship these guns into inner city neighborhoods  should be deported

You mean the ones that are stolen? You do understand a vast majority of violent crime involving guns is from weapons illegally possessed, usually stolen? Fail to see how a 2A rights advocacy group that pushes responsible and safe ownership is at fault for the illegal actions of others.

You also do realize, you are pissed at the wrong agency. If you want the gun manufacturers and sellers, their lobbying group is the NSSF 🤔

The NRA and NRA-ILA are associated with the NSNf only insomuch that purchase forms for guns at FFL's have check boxes for donating to the NRA and/or the NSSF.

Also, you say its more about poverty, but immediately interject race in a substantial manner, implying that the NRA is shipping guns to inner cities with the explicit purpose of giving them to criminals. Wholly absurd proposition as that is, the NRA has always wanted to see law abiding minorities arm themselves. The NRA itself was created in part as a response to the Jim Crow South and the KKK, and the direct effort of dixiecrats to stripping blacks of their 2a rights.

Cause, if you want to politically suppress a demographic group through domestic terrorism, you wanna take their means of defense away 🤔. Like, you blaming guns and the NRA in this, while also saying its mostly poverty, is frankly strange. Do guns cause poverty? Sure would like to see that causally substantiated empirically.

If you want to find people to blame for the poverty that causes crime, you might want to look at the people shilling abortions in those communities and ripping apart the typical family unit that was intact as late as the 50's, creating a vastly dependent economic group on welfare(which is damaging to a persons self-worth no matter how you slice it), and capping(that's right as in limiting) the market cost of discrimination with min wage laws. 🤔

"guns increase risk of death"

And putting a pool in your backyard greatly increases your chance of drowning. Damn pools, ban em now.

"Australia and US Burglary rates a comparable"

Really? Page 2 of this crime stat compilation is showing, just in burglaries, a rate that is double that of the US. Might want to explain how double = comparable again. 🤔

"You're suggesting that the number of guns in the USA would mean nobody wants to risk a burglary."

No, that less people do. Ok, for a personal example, about a year ago i woke up to someone fucking with my kitchen window. I grab my double barrel and go near the window and cock it. I hear "oh fucl" get yelled out and person run, then about 15 seconds later a car door slams out of sight and peels off.

Called the cops, they came, got the info. Put it down as trespassing and not attempted burglary. Second time it happened recently, i didnt even bother considering they weren't gonna treat it as a burglary attempt.

Alot of defensive gun uses go unreported because often, a serious crime hasnt yet been committee, the introduction of a gun causes running away, often. Even say in a mass shooting, such as Sutherland Springs, a shooting in Texas quite a bit more deadly than Parkland. Guess who stopped that?

None other than one of those evil NRA members you hear so much about. But good guys with guns dont help its said. Despite simultaneously stil wanting cops, i.e. "good guys" with guns 😂

Yes, i understand that its Shapiro will be cringe to some, but this is absurd. I looked up the study, its here independent of Brown

and it's finding,

ROGD appears to represent an entity that is distinct from the gender dysphoria observed in individuals who have previously been described as transgender. The worsening of mental well-being and parent-child relationships and behaviors that isolate AYAs from their parents, families, non-transgender friends and mainstream sources of information are particularly concerning. More research is needed to better understand this phenomenon, its implications and scope.

is tame af and just seems obvious. But its gonna be taken down by Brown itself?

"There doesn't need to be any double standard for RM here for any reason, RO or otherwise."

I agree with this, which is why RO's are invalid. See, either you dont hold a double standard, which creates a necessary situation where you are having to punish acts that lack intent

Or

You necessarily create a double standard because individuals who are otherwise predisposed to violate RO's over percieved violations, lack intent to violate and thus ought not be punished to as severe an extent.

I mean, this point operates in accordance with a lack of a desire to see a double standard as well. It just wasn't stated outright. But as i pointed out, there appears to be a heavy focus on intent and ideal application, and not so much on pragmatic applications both on your part and others.

Offenses such as harassment, threatening, doxxing, all have intent built in. You can't harass, without intending to harass. You cant threaten, without intending to threaten, you cant dox, without intending to dox. You can however violate an RO without intending to violate an RO...

And thus we reach the core and foremost complaint presented against an RO, and one that would equally apply to both main involved parties(Zeichen and RM for instance) if placed within the boundaries of an RO.

Mental illness as mitigating factors aside, if RM and Zeichen were both involved in an RO at this moment, neither could be held fmpov as intending to break such an RO. Yet there would be those who hold it having been broken. Therein, again, lies the core issue.

A ToS requires users to exercise self control in a wide variety of ways, and an enforced RO is hardly a form of self control beyond the capability of any member present. If an RO is fair for Emil it's fair for RM

You again are obtusely interpreting what im saying, considering that i never said it was fair for either one. And a ToS does require users to excercise self control. RO's indeed also require self-control. But they are redundant, arbitrary, and clearly, as was stated, have the purpose of fast tracking removal. This necessarily implies for instances where ToS is not itself being violated.

What part of me arguing against RO's in general would lead you to honestly believe I'm ok with them in certain circumstances? Or that the point of disproportionate burden and it being a trap, is at all the core of my complaint

Remove the stigma, he's not an inferior human being and he's not retarded.

Finally, multiple of my family members have mental illnesses ranging from bi-polar to schizophrenia. I don't think any of them are in the sense you are trying to apply, "inferior". But to claim that a mental illness isnt a disadvantage and creates innate susceptibilities to what would be viewed as generally undesirable behavior, as you are trying to imply here, is absurd.

Whatever implications derive from not factoring that into the creation of policies that set redundant behavioral standards independent of current ToS, isnt on me, im just the messenger pointing it out.

>Regarding the mentally ill/deficient without stigma and with due respect and consideration.

>Wanting to implement measures that such individuals are disproportionately susceptible to, so as to create a method by which removal can be fast tracked for offenses that otherwise might not be violations of ToS themselves

You are gonna have to pick one, cause you cant have both

Im not saying you are a victim, you aren't. And any violations of ToS you make are yours to own up to and face the consequences for. My point isnt even specifically about you, you just so happen to be the  clear example to point to that illustrates the overall point I'm making.

I frankly dont like your mentality when it comes to people, its barely tolerable, that last part exemplary of it. But nonetheless, though it rubs me the wrong way, isnt a valid basis fmpov to seek out ways to fasttrack punishments for anything that doesn't itself already violate current ToS 🤔

You said to Emil "Are you the kinda person that tries to grab ice cream out of an autists hands and cry wrongdoing when you get bit? 🤔" This is a bluntly offensive way to think of someone who has a mental disability, as you're assuming that Emil is in a position of superior responsibility over RM given RM's mental issues.

No, first of all, the comparison was not in comparing all mentally ill people to being severely deficient. It was in establishing that there are circumstances in which, though person X is not punishable for anything, neither is Person Y. You know as well as i do that both involved parties can be determined as not being wholly at fault, or at all. You are going to need to stop being obtuse.

Since you and I don't know anything about RM, prejudice is going to be apparent here.
Enough to know that he has a paranoid personality that is predisposed to viewing vague posting as a violation of any RO.

you're treating him like he's a certified retard, and that Emil is effectively bullying a helpless kid.
No, im not. That's you wishfully thinking that's whats going in here. If you don't like that I'm pointing out that RO's practically are a method to fast track removal of undesired members, and such a metric unequally places burden on such members who otherwise might have dispositions vulnerable to the unintended breaking of an RO, that's not on me.

RM is self aware enough to know what behaviour is and isn't acceptable, and ought to be treated as anyone's equal.
I agree, which is why I'm fine with him being held accountable for ToS violations. I get the feeling you are white knighting here cause this is a bit of a laughable attempt at painting what I said as inherently insulting. 😂😂

And I'm not saying that practical purpose is necessarily primarily intended. But when examining potential policies, what is intended, rarely fmpov outweighs what practical effects that policy will have. "Its not meant to do that" doesn't provide adequate defense to it doing as such.

RO's are not a part of the ToS. They are being proposed as an additional behavioral standard. My point is that violations of ToS provide sufficient basis for punishment. RO's are an arbitrary metric that has at least in part the purpose to fast track bans, for things that might otherwise not be offenses in themselves, or the need for an RO present to ban would itself be unecessary anyways.

This unequally burdens individuals who might have such illnesses as they might not otherwise be able to control that, or their disposition might be inclined to view, as pointed out, even vague references as directed at them, and thus viewing any RO as being consequently broken by that post.

One could try to add an objective metric of say, @'ing the person is when a post constitutes as directed. But that itself is arbitrary because post can be directed or targeted without the use of @'ing.

If his offenses are violations of ToS they merit punishment. If they are not, this metric of RO's seems less a sensible metric of "just" adjudication, and more a desire to see a fast track method of removing users that are deemed less than desirable. Fair enough, that again, rubs me the wrong way.

You should clarify at what point you draw the line where alleged mental issues stops being a justification for bad behaviour.

"I'm all for punishing violations of ToS"

My complaint was specifically regarding restraining orders. Can see why you might otherwise think it was applicable to all areas if you missed that part 👏

A seemingly innocent post having nothing to do with him could be perceived as antagonistic and illicit a response.

This is precisely why RO's are arbitrary fmpov.

On another note, it doesn't come as a surprise necessarily that RM might have a mental illness of some sort, what surprises me is there are people advocating for very little tolerance in regards to negative behaviors that likely stem from this. This should otherwise be a mitigating factor in potential avenues of punishment, no?

Im all for punishing violations of ToS, and in understanding his past, can see why such negative views have developed over time, even admittedly those I have of my own.

However, measures such as RO's, would facially place an unequal burden upon such individuals. It basically amounts to a trap with the purpose, as stated previously, of creating an arbitrary basis for which to justify punishments that might not otherwise be punishable offenses.(fast tracking bans)

Like, have a cookie for being a savage, but creating traps that catch mentally ill individuals who probably otherwise can't help their reaction, for offenses that otherwise might not be offenses in themselves rubs me the wrong way 🤔

RM chose to respond to me five times -- in quick succession. Now, any logical or non-biased person would recognize that this is excessive, and that his behavior was intended to provoke
This is quite some projection you have going here, as illustrated by:
it is very easy to discern when someone is becoming excitable, because they usually say more than they should, or they make multiple posts within a short period of time.

So easy to discern, and yet you would have us hold it is indiscernible to you and there is just noooo way you fully realize poking Rational will illicit that reaction. No, you do fully understand thats exactly the reaction that will be gotten.

I find that you are pulling out the victim card in this to be a rather trite usage, especially since you full out acknowledged its easy to discern when somebody is over-emotional and will react in such a manner. Again, you would have us hold its obvious to discern, but in the same breadth hold that your actions have zero recognition of this and are done without any knowledge it will.

RM isnt innocent in this, neither are you, and frankly, pulling out the victim card. As you have said he has admitted to having 3 kinds of mental disorders. Yet, again, you choose to poke. Are you the kinda person that tries to grab ice cream out of an autists hands and cry wrongdoing when you get bit? 🤔

Hello better trade deal 👏👏

So to take stock:

-EU has agreed in principle to a free and fair trade deal
-Mexico has fully agreed to a new deal.

Biggest takeaways on this deal fmpov is that it ups the amount of parts made in US on auto parts for vehicles to be sold in the US from 50% to 75%. Also that the deal increases the amount of agricultural goods Mexico has to purchase.

This upping of purchasing negates much of the harms by Mexico from its citizens, whom it encourages to do so, illegally migrating here to work farm labor positions and send $$ out of our economy. Either way now, Mexico pays for that encouraged practice 👏👏.

This deal is a win for both sides, but its a major win for the US. Betting man would go with Trudeau ending his teenage antics, and coming running to the table so as to not be left out in the lurch👏💯😂.
