A man is suing his parents for giving birth to him without his consent. That might sound ridiculous, but he has a point. The plaintiff behind the lawsuit, 27-year-old Raphael Samuel, believes in “anti-natalism,” namely the philosophical theory that parents do not have moral standing to bring an unwitting child into the world. And there are some seriously legitimate philosophers who advocate for this argument.
The best-known anti-natalist is David Benatar, head of the philosophy department at the University of Cape Town and author of the 2006 book Better Never to Have Been: The Harm of Coming into Existence. (Though Benatar is heralded as a philosopher, he’s controversial at the University of Cape Town for comments he’s made about race, and was dismissive of African philosophy in a recent interview with Quartz.) A 2012 New Yorker article on the theory highlights a central premise of Benatar’s work: If a couple have multiple hereditary genetic diseases and live in horrendous conditions, we might well agree they have a moral obligation not to procreate and so avoid bringing into the world a child who will suffer terribly. Conversely, if a couple is wealthy and disease-free, we would not consider them morally obliged to create a child.

From: Research on the Transgender Brain: What You Should Know
What’s going on in your brain plays a large role in determining the gender you identify with — and researchers working with transgender people are just starting to understand how.
Being transgender has nothing to do with sexual identity. As one doctor puts it, “Sexuality is about who you’re attracted to. Gender is about who you are.”
Being transgender has nothing to do with sexual identity. As one doctor puts it, “Sexuality is about who you’re attracted to. Gender is about who you are.”
In the birthing process, a medical professional will declare your baby a boy or a girl based on their sexual organs — but does this determine their gender?
“We’re trying to change the understanding of gender,” says psychiatrist Murat Altinay, MD. “That’s one of my big goals. The main question I’m asking is, ‘Where is the gender?’”
We know that as an embryo forms, the genitalia specializes into either male or female. But what about development in the brain?
“The brain and the body can go in different directions,” Dr. Altinay says. “Gender is not only in our genitalia; there’s something in the brain that determines gender.”

“The male and female brain have structural differences,” he says. Men and women tend to have different volumes in certain areas of the brain.
“When we look at the transgender brain, we see that the brain resembles the gender that the person identifies as,” Dr. Altinay says. For example, a person who is born with a penis but ends up identifying as a female often actually has some of the structural characteristics of a “female” brain.

Dec 30 (Reuters) - Lawmakers around the United States have tried to grant justice to victims of decades-old incidents of child sexual abuse by giving them extra time to file lawsuits. Now some of the defendants in these cases, including church and youth organizations, are finding a safe haven: America’s bankruptcy courts.
In New York, nearly 11,000 cases flooded state courts, many seeking to hold Catholic dioceses responsible for sexual abuse by clergy, after a 2019 law suspended statutes of limitations that would have otherwise barred many of the lawsuits. In response, four New York dioceses that collectively faced more than 500 sexual-abuse claims filed for bankruptcy. That halted the cases — and blocked those from anyone who might sue later — and forced the plaintiffs to negotiate a one-time settlement for all abuse claims in bankruptcy court.

From a r/Atheism post:
2000 years ago women were treated in the area that is now Palestine/ Israel as badly as they are treated in some Moslem countries nowadays. At that time the area was part of the Roman empire and the locals were treated badly, especially women. If Mary was about 14 when she conceived, it is MUCH more likely that she was raped by a Roman soldier than having been impregnated by the Holy Spirit. Joseph, married her, with the story of the holy spirit, to save her from a death by stoning. If this was the case, he is one of the most decent men in the Bible.

That study has no methodology section detailing how they measured the antibodies.
You have to be kidding me, antibody serology tests check for the presence or level of specific antibodies in the blood. Antibodies are proteins that your immune system makes to fight foreign substances. These substances are often pathogens, (disease-causing germs) such as viruses and bacteria. If you download the report, it says:
Anti‑RBD antibody concentration‑dependent neutralization against RBD‑ACE2 binding with
COVID‑19 antisera from natural immunity. To accurately quantify the ability of the antisera in neutralizing
RBD and ACE2 binding, we developed an electrochemiluminescence based protein binding assay using
recombinant RBD and ACE2 proteins as illustrated in Fig. 2A. When RBD was added to the assay wells, there
was an excellent linear relationship between added free RBD and the luminescence signal from the RBD bound
to ACE2 (r2 = 0.99; Fig. 2B). Therefore, the ACE2 binding assay provides a precise quantification of free RBD
capable of binding to ACE2. The neutralization assay had an analytical precision of 6.8% (inter-day CV value,
N = 3) using Mab D001 as the reference for neutralization assay. To clinically validate the sensitivity and specificity
of the RBD-ACE2 binding assay, we analyzed the percentage of inhibition with the 41 COVID-19 convalescent
sera and a comparable number of pre-COVID-19 control sera. The results showed that the 41 COVID-19
sera had a significantly higher inhibitory effect against RBD-ACE2 binding (P < 0.0001; Fig. 2C). The median
levels of inhibition were 93% for the convalescent sera and 7% for the control sera. When comparing the convalescent
sera with the negative controls, the antibody neutralization assay showed high sensitivity and specificity,
with an AUC in ROC analysis of 0.986 (Supplementary Fig. 7), indicative of high sensitivity and specificity of
the assay. The neutralization assay further has a clinical sensitivity of 90% and specificity of 97%, when a cutoff
value (− 30%) was established based on the results of the pre-COVID-19 sera (Mean + 2X SD). Due to some nonspecific
inhibition of ACE2-RBD binding observed with pre-COVID-19 sera (Fig. 2C), additional work in better
refining the cutoff and in determining the accurate sensitivity and specificity is needed. The neutralization assay
further demonstrated similar consistency when compared with the RBD antibody test using paired convalescent
serum samples taken at different time points, with a correlation coefficient for pairing r = 0.952 that was highly
significant (P = 0.0001; Supplementary Fig. 8). Thus, not only the RBD-ACE2 receptor neutralization assay has
excellent sensitivity and specificity for COVID-19 antisera, but also is precise with paired samples.

This leads me to a profound realisation: there is probably no heaven and afterlife either. I think belief in an afterlife is just wishful thinking. There is no reliable evidence for it, and it flies in the face of everything we know in science. I think that when we die we return to dust. But there’s a sense in which we live on, in our influence, and in our genes that we pass on to our children. We have this one life to appreciate the grand design of the universe, and for that I am extremely grateful.

The first type of evidence supporting the existence of dark matter has to do with the way dark matter affects the movement of celestial bodies. In our solar system, almost all of the mass is in the sun. The innermost planets like Mercury and Venus orbit the sun the fastest. As the distance from the sun increases, the speed at which planets move decreases. This is because there is less gravitational pull from the sun on planets farther out and, to keep from spiraling into or away from the sun, they must move slower. We can apply a similar analogy to galaxies. If we assume that the bright part of a galaxy shows where most of the mass is, then most of the mass is near the center, and at the dim edge of a galaxy there should not be much mass. Therefore, objects orbiting far from the center of the galaxy should move slower than objects closer to the center, just like the planets in our solar system.
To test this hypothesis, scientists recorded the incoming light from a distant spiral galaxy (our home galaxy, the Milky Way, is also considered a spiral galaxy) and plotted the velocities of the stars vs. their distances from the center of the galaxy. Scientists discovered that the stars were not behaving in the way anticipated. They found that the stars farther away from the center were moving much faster than predicted. The only way this is possible is if there is more mass in the outer parts of galaxies than we can observe. The fact that we are unable to see this mass, because it is not emitting light, suggests the presence of dark matter.

How do we know that dark matter exists?
But if we cannot see dark matter, how do scientists know it is there? The answer is gravity. Astronomers indirectly detect dark matter through its gravitational influences on stars and galaxies. Wherever normal matter resides, dark matter can be found lurking unseen by its side.

Well, he did think Roosevelt should be King.
By May, 1933, Mencken felt the only recourse was to propose Roosevelt for King and let the people decide:
... the state of affairs thus confronting the country prompts me to make a simple suggestion. It is that a convention be called under Article V of the Constitution, and that it consider the desirability of making Dr. Roosevelt King in name as well as in fact. There is no constitutional impediment to such a change, and it would thus not amount to a revolution. The people of the United States are quite as free, under Article V. to establish a monarchy as they were to give the vote to women. Even if it be held, as some argue, that the bill of Rights is inviolable and cannot be changed by constitutional amendment, it may be answered that there is nothing in the Bill of Rights requiring that the national government shall be republican in form.
Indeed, a three years later, on the eve of an even greater disaster for the Republican Party than the defeat they had suffered in 1934, he would write in despair.

Pasteur didn't really disagree with the modern concept of abiogenesis because it hadn't been proposed in his day.
Prior to the work that Pasteur did, it was common to believe in the concept of spontaneous generation, which held that life arises spontaneously in certain conditions, for example frogs appearing suddenly when it rains, or maggots arising nowhere in rotting meat. The idea had already been challenged by earlier demonstrations that showed it to be untrue in particular cases, but Pasteur's work put it to bed altogether.
That led to the adoption of a concept called biogenesis, which holds that living organisms are only produced by parents of the same species reproducing, which is still the current thinking, with a small correction for evolution.
In the modern sense, abiogenesis just means life arising out of non-living matter. No-one proposes that modern, complex organisms arise spontaneously from basic chemicals, but since there was a time before life existed, it must have arisen from non-life at least once.
