The problem of suffering
-->
@EtrnlVw

  1. Karma is not a theory as there is no credible proof to prove it, the concept of karma can only be a hypothesis(an idea)
  2. The concept of karma is flawed…and to prove it let's go to the beginning of time….
In the beginning let's say that there is person “X” and person “Y”. Since its the beginning of time and this is their first life, we can safely say that they had no bad karma debt from previous life and that they are so far not sinners.
Now In order for bad karma to take place, one must harm the others. So X has to harm Y…and this is were the problem lies…cause over here the question arises of why did person Y had to suffer? Since Y has never sinned it seems illogical for something bad to happen to him.(as karma states that good things happen to good people and bad things to bad people)
In short the flaw with karma is that it is a loop…if bad karma happens to you then you “must have done” something bad in your previous life, but in your very first life you can't sin without harming another and people can't be harmed without having previous bad karma.
3) karma makes zero sense, whats the point of punishment if you don't understand what we have done wrong, God can't be that stupid, even humans know that justice delayed is justice denied. So karma coming from previous life of which you have no memory is useless. Also one has to wonder what heinous crime did one do in his previous life or current one, to see that babies are dying from cancer or people are getting raped, sometimes more than once by the same persons.
4) some people may see karma in effect right in front of them, but I assure you it's not, the human mind has a tendency of finding patterns where there are none. It was useful in the stone age for survival from wild animals and in learning to create fire, but it's it's not that useful now.
5) karma is like santa claus completely made up so that people would behave. That is why we have real judicial system which is real even if limited in its power
CONCLUSION if you do bad things the universe won't come after you,” but our judicial system will”, and if the judicial system fails, then you would have to live with a heavy heart, or worse “get lynched by the mob” aka MOB JUSTICE …frankly I would prefer the judicial system to get me, rather than live with guilt and fear of having the mob attack me and burn me alive or hang me to a tree.

@Greyparrot
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is on a quest to develop a vaccine that could provide long-term immunity to all types of the flu.
The first-ever universal influenza vaccine is currently being tested in people at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, the NIH announced in April, 2019.
“The hope is that [the vaccine] will target more strains, and if we’re really lucky, most or all strains. This is important because the current vaccine is a best-guess version in anticipation of the coming flu season, which often leads to a vaccine that does not cover all strains that actually materialize,” Dr. David Mushatt, an infectious disease specialist and section chief of infectious diseases at Tulane University, told Healthline.

Since smallpox was eradicated, the vaccine is not recommended in routine immunization. It is used to protect researchers who work on the variola virus that causes smallpox and other viruses in the same virus family (known as orthopox viruses).

What about smallpox? During the 20th century, it is estimated that smallpox was responsible for 300–500 million deaths. In the early 1950s an estimated 50 million cases of smallpox occurred in the world each year. As recently as 1967, the World Health Organization estimated that 15 million people contracted the disease and that two million died in that year.  After successful vaccination campaigns throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, the WHO certified the global erdication of smallpox in December 1979.

My main concern with a wealth tax
Eisenhower's  top marginal income tax rate in 1953 was 92%. The 92% tax bracket applied to income over $400,000 in 1953, equivalent to an income of $3,439,611 today.
The Gross Federal Debt was 71.4% of our GDP in 1953 and now  Gross Federal Debt is estimated at 107.4% of GDP.

Isn't a miscarriage a necessary evil?  It is necessary because in many cases, a new embryo will have more or fewer than the 23 chromosome pairs it’s meant to have. “It’s nature’s mechanism to miscarry those embryos, which are not destined to develop into a healthy fetus.
It's evil because it leaves the parents broken hearted.

And as for capitalism, 100 million Indigenous people in the Americas were killed during the European colonization for the propagation of American capitalism, as well as millions of African people that were enslaved as property to be profited off of by capitalists in the West. How many people have been killed by capitalist sanctions? How many people have been killed in capitalist wars? How many people have been killed by capitalist dictators like Pincohet? How many people have died and will we let die for profiteering?

From "Fingerprints of God" by Barbara Hagarty

But for every study suggesting that prayer heals a person’s body, there is another one showing that prayer has no effect — or even makes you worse. Does prayer help people with heart problems in a coronary care unit? Reasearchers at the Mayo Clinic found no effect. Does it benefit people who needed to clear their arteries using angioplasty? Not according to researchers at Duke. In another study, prayer did not ease the plight of those on kidney dialysis machines. And don’t even mention skin warts: Researchers found that people who received prayer saw the number of warts actually increase slightly, compared with those who received no prayer.
The most famous study, and probably the most damaging for advocates of healing prayer, was conducted by Harvard researcher Herbert Benson in 2006. He looked at the recovery rates of patients undergoing cardiac bypass surgery. Those patients who knew they were receiving prayer actually did worse than those who did not know they were receiving prayer. One possible explanation was that the people who knew they were getting prayer may have thought, “Oh my goodness, they’re praying for me — I must be really sick,” and there was a psychological backlash. Perhaps. But in the end, there is no conclusive evidence from double-blind, randomized studies that suggests that intercessory prayer works.

I think I get what you are saying. God heals a Panamanian lady from a skin disease but lets approximately 3.1 million children die from undernutrition each year (UNICEF, 2018a). Hunger and undernutrition contribute to more than half of global child deaths, as undernutrition can make children more vulnerable to illness and exacerbate disease.  God can't make miracle protien bars appear out of thin air?

He just believed in God.
Tyler Bayless, 35, told Reuters that he spent several months living in an Atlanta halfway house for recovering addicts with Robert Aaron Long, 21, who was charged on Wednesday with eight counts of murder and one count of aggravated assault in the Tuesday night shootings.
Bayless, who says he was being treated for drug addiction, said he was in a halfway house named Maverick Recovery with Long in late 2019 and early 2020, and last saw Long last February. He said Long had been treated for sex addiction and that he frequented massage parlors "for explicitly sexual activity."

Bayless said Long was "deeply religious" and would become "very emotionally distraught that he frequented these places."
"In the halfway house he would describe several of his sexual addiction 'relapses' as he called them. He would have a deep feeling of remorse and shame and say he needed to return to prayer and to return to God," he said.

Religious Experience after reading scripture or other religious material
Read, Out‐of‐body experience and autoscopy of neurological origin  by Blanke,Landis , Spinelli and Seeck.
Abstract
During an out‐of‐body experience (OBE), the experient seems to be awake and to see his body and the world from a location outside the physical body. A closely related experience is autoscopy (AS), which is characterized by the experience of seeing one’s body in extrapersonal space. Yet, despite great public interest and many case studies, systematic neurological studies of OBE and AS are extremely rare and, to date, no testable neuroscientific theory exists. The present study describes phenomenological, neuropsychological and neuroimaging correlates of OBE and AS in six neurological patients. We provide neurological evidence that both experiences share important central mechanisms. We show that OBE and AS are frequently associated with pathological sensations of position, movement and perceived completeness of one’s own body. These include vestibular sensations (such as floating, flying, elevation and rotation), visual body‐part illusions (such as the illusory shortening, transformation or movement of an extremity) and the experience of seeing one’s body only partially during an OBE or AS. We also find that the patient’s body position prior to the experience influences OBE and AS. Finally, in five patients, brain damage or brain dysfunction is localized to the temporo‐parietal junction (TPJ). These results suggest that the complex experiences of OBE and AS represent paroxysmal disorders of body perception and cognition (or body schema).
 We suggest that OBE and AS are related to a failure to integrate proprioceptive, tactile and visual information with respect to one’s own body (disintegration in personal space) and by a vestibular dysfunction leading to an additional disintegration between personal (vestibular) space and extrapersonal (visual) space. We argue that both disintegrations (personal; personal–extrapersonal) are necessary for the occurrence of OBE and AS, and that they are due to a paroxysmal cerebral dysfunction of the TPJ in a state of partially and briefly impaired consciousness.

WHY WHY WHY ANDY DALTON
-->
@Vader
Yes, the job of an NFL general manager is to build a winning team. They have to fill all 22 starting jobs with good players. Yet everybody knows the league has changed. This isn’t the 1960s or ’70s when teams could get away with great defense and a strong running game. This is the age of the quarterbacks. If you don’t have one, you don’t win. True to form, the Chicago Bears seem to have saddled themselves with a GM in Ryan Pace who can’t land one.
His track record at the position is also arguably the worst in the NFL among active GMs. His first big move was signing Mike Glennon in March of 2017. A month later he shocked the league when he traded up for Mitch Trubisky. Then last year he traded a 4th round pick to acquire Nick Foles. All three have blown up in his face. Yet for some reason Bears ownership felt it was the right decision to put that position in Pace’s hands once again.

DNA evidence has long suggested that apes and Old World monkeys diverged from a common ancestor between 25 million and 30 million years ago. I would guess that morals deveoped in animal brains that led to animals that were kind to it's species having numerous offspring and animals that killed or scared off most members of it's species died before they had offspring. You can see moral behavior in your pets today. So animals that developed self preserving morals became the dominating species over those that did not.

Florida, with its infamously libertine policies, is below the national median despite having a much higher senior population.
That is strange since  total cases per 1M in New York is 91,906 and in Florida it is 92,171.  DeSantis must not be reporting all the deaths
This was in the local paper:
The state of Florida is hiding information about coronavirus deaths from citizens. Under the direction of Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Florida Department of Health (DOH), the state has consistently refused to inform the public about deaths and infections in Florida nursing homes, prisons and now, coronavirus deaths as documented by public medical examiners.

Time as a result of lightspeed
-->
@Benjamin
Most of what you state is untrue.   Special Relativity tells us that a moving frame of reference has its spatial dimension shortened in the direction of motion relative to the stationary observer, and has its time dimension slowed down relative to the stationary observer.  Note that the key phrase is "relative to the stationary observer". Relative to itself, a reference frame is at rest and experiences neither length contraction nor time dilation. An astronaut on a speeding spaceship does not see his own rulers shortened nor his own clocks running slow. Rather, it is the man on the ground who sees the rulers on the spaceship shortened and the spaceship's clocks running slow. Also note that there's nothing wrong with the clocks and rules. Space itself is shortened and time itself is slowed down for a moving reference frame, relative to the stationary observer. These interesting effects  have been verified experimentally many times.

mRNA vs Variants of CoV2
March 8, 2021

A new lab study shows troubling signs that Pfizer's and Moderna's COVID-19 shots could be far less effective against the variant first found in South Africa
  • Pfizer's and Moderna's shots were at least 10 times less effective against variant in a new study.
  • Researchers tested the vaccines on a variant first found in South Africa, which is now in 20 states.
  • A mutation on the variant called E484K appeared to be a "major contributor," the study authors said.
Both companies said in January that they were developing booster shots specifically to tackle the B.1.351 variant.

Validity (logic)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In logic, more precisely in deductive reasoning, an argument is valid if and only if it takes a form that makes it impossible for the premises to be true and the conclusion nevertheless to be false. It is not required for a valid argument to have premises that are actually true, but to have premises that, if they were true, would guarantee the truth of the argument's conclusion. Valid arguments must be clearly expressed by means of sentences called well-formed formulas (also called wffs or simply formulas). The validity of an argument—its being valid—can be tested, proved or disproved, and depends on its logical form.
In logic, an argument is a set of statements expressing the premises (whatever consists of empirical evidences and axiomatic truths) and an evidence-based conclusion.
An argument is valid if and only if it would be contradictory for the conclusion to be false if all of the premises are true. Validity doesn't require the truth of the premises, instead it merely necessitates that conclusion follows from the formers without violating the correctness of the logical form. If also the premises of a valid argument are proven true, this is said to be sound.

Yes, not all valid statements are necessarily sound.

From Validity and Soundness - rintintin.colorado.edu:

So, an argument is valid if it has the proper form. An argument can have the right form, but be totally false, however. For example:
1. Daffy Duck is a duck.
2. All ducks are mammals.
3. Therefore, Daffy Duck is a mammal.
The argument just given is valid. But, premise 2 as well as the conclusion are both false. Notice however that, IF the premises WERE true, then the conclusion would also have to be true. This is all that is required for validity. A valid argument need not have true premises or a true conclusion. On the other hand, a sound argument DOES need to have true premises and a true conclusion:

Republicans explain yourself
Clearly, life begins when you draw your first breath. That is when God places your soul in your body. Your soul enters your body with your first breath and it leaves with your last. The body is just a vessel — your being, your humanity, is your immortal soul. That's what the Bible says, and for the life of me I cannot understand why so many people, especially supposedly religious people, get this wrong. There is no question, no moral ambiguity. Abortion destroys an empty vessel, it does not kill a human being.
This is why you won't see any fetuses floating arounfd in Heaven.

Machines have made jobs obsolete for centuries. The spinning jenny replaced weavers, buttons displaced elevator operators, and the Internet drove travel agencies out of business. One study estimates that about 400,000 jobs were lost to automation in U.S. factories from 1990 to 2007. But the drive to replace humans with machinery is accelerating as companies struggle to avoid workplace infections of COVID-19 and to keep operating costs low. The U.S. shed around 40 million jobs at the peak of the pandemic, and while some have come back, some will never return. One group of economists estimates that 42% of the jobs lost are gone forever.

first of all, all sound arguments are valid AND all valid arguments are sound.
Not true,  A sound argument is necessarily valid, but a valid argument need not be sound. The argument form that derives every A is a C from the premises every A is a B and every B is a C, is valid, so every instance of it is a valid argument. ... Note that an unsound argument may have a true or a false conclusion.

mRNA vs Variants of CoV2
Feb. 25, 2021
As concerns grow that new coronavirus variants could blunt the protective effects of vaccines, Pfizer and BioNTech said on Thursday that they planned to test a third booster shot as well as update their original vaccine.
Laboratory experiments have found that the levels of antibodies neutralized by the Pfizer-BioNTech shot was reduced against a variant first identified in South Africa, which could hint at reduced efficacyBut there is no evidence yet from clinical trials there suggesting that the vaccine does not offer strong protection.
“We are taking multiple steps to act decisively and be ready in case a strain becomes resistant to the protection afforded by the vaccine,” Dr. Albert Bourla, the chief executive of Pfizer, said in a statement.
One study will look at what kind of protection is given when people receive a third shot about six to 12 months after the initial two-dose regimen. In addition, the companies said they were speaking to regulators about testing an adapted version of the vaccine that would protect against the variant from South Africa, known as B.1.351.

You do know that they are talking about people that previously had the virus, don't you?
"Now, researchers from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle and CHUM Research Center in Montréal have shown that just a single dose of either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccine generated a 1000-fold increase in neutralizing antibody titers against both the vaccine-matched Wuhan-Hu-1 strain and the B.1.351 variant among CONVALESCENT individuals."
They are saying if you had the virus or vacine then one new dose will give you protection from both varients.

“Boosting pre-existing antibody responses to the spike protein will lead to significant increases in serum neutralizing antibody responses against vaccine-matched and emerging variants,” concludes the team.

Note the term PRE-EXISTING.

This was the basis on my comment about getting a booster shot.
