For many Americans, it's also "unremarkable" that CIA operatives now transition seamlessly into MSM media jobs on daily shows. You know, the CIA, the organization tasked with global regime change and subverting foreign elections when the leader isn't "America friendly," The ones who removed an elected leader and started the Donbas war in 2014, and are now on mainstream TV as "contributors" to explain why another 100 Billion needs to be sent to weapons companies to continue the war?

It's almost as if government officials are auditioning daily for a seamless transition into the private workforce as a well compensated lobbyist!

Yet only one of these is, using a RR word, "Unremarkable"

Vegas odds on which one?

To the OP, this situation is indeed "Remarkable" because this future "job applicant" is now the one making the direct requests instead of the privately owned media employers....almost as if that candidate was already de-facto hired in the private workforce while also holding a position of government power...

It's the "remarkable" evolution of government corruption readily visible to any non-partisan.

Pakman is in the nonsense business. MAGA MORONS want to hear nonsense.
Can you believe he STILL thinks Pakman's viewers are "MAGA morons"?
He also has the exact same show format as Sam Seder, another far-left opinionator.
Pakman holds a graduate degree in communications from a far-left University.
Every one of his watchers is a far left, WAPO reading Biden supporter. Most of his shows read off the exact same headlines as WAPO.

Please do not ever let him forget this.

aren't most third world economies free markets?
Unlikely.

Most 3rd world countries don't have very strong private property laws

  1. Weak Legal Systems: 3rd world nations typically have underdeveloped legal systems that struggle to enforce property rights effectively. This can lead to disputes over land and property ownership.
  2. Corruption: Corruption within legal and governmental institutions in 3rd world countries undermine property rights by allowing powerful individuals or entities to encroach on the property rights of others with impunity.
  3. Unclear Land Tenure: Land tenure systems may be informal or unclear, leading to disputes over land ownership and use.
  4. Lack of Access: Vulnerable populations, such as indigenous communities or rural farmers, have limited access to legal mechanisms to protect their property rights.
  5. State Control: Most developing countries have historically had a strong presence of state-owned enterprises and significant government intervention in key industries such as energy, telecommunications, and banking.
  6. Economic Liberalization: Over the past few decades, many developing countries have pursued economic liberalization policies, including privatization of state-owned enterprises, trade liberalization, and deregulation, with the aim of increasing economic freedom and attracting foreign investment, but not to the extent of a free market.

My point, before I brought your personal behavior into the mix, is that it was unremarkable compared to the prior 4 years,

It's certainly a shift in the Overton window. That's not a good thing at all so we need to fight back against it, but right now there are far more important battles to concern ourselves with.

Trump right now is a coin flip away from another term. The guy who tried to end American democracy, the guy who has pledged to go after his political opponents, the guy who wants to gut the entire federal government so he can make loyalty to him the number one job requirement. But we're supposed to be concerned with a WH memo asking media outlets to spend more time on a subject they find pressing. Give me a break.

if each US citizen was only allowed to own five residential units or one apartment building?
on your point that we should just build more housing for poor. i'm open to that idea.
And going further, the problem isn't that there are too many rich people owning property, it is that there are not enough rich people owning and maintaining property. Owning, developing, and maintaining property is a learned skill, and people who are very good at doing this will have more property that people will want. A big problem, especially in California, is that property owners regularly bribe politicians through campaign finance and other means to create laws prohibiting new construction because the original property owners want to limit the amount of rich people they have to compete with. Allowing more construction will add more rich people managing properties and competing to make sure the properties are well maintained and developed.

Many cities experimented with public housing, gifting property to the poor, but the end result across the board, was that poor people for various reasons tend to be very unskilled with maintaining property. As a result, public housing tends to decline into ruin over time as it's not managed by the most talented and able people. So simply redistributing property is a proven failed solution. Adding more rich people would be a much more workable solution which would add more valuable property for people who choose to rent and not worry about the maintenance of the property.

Another analogy would be addressing the wealth gap between employers and waged workers. Your solution would be to essentially eliminate waged workers and have everyone be self-employed. Not everyone has the skill set to do this, so it is an unworkable plan. Landowners and employers provide a valuable service managing resources competently in exchange for the fee of wages and rent for those who are not able, or choose to not to deal with the responsibilities of property or self-employment.

@n8nrgim
I agree mostly with your sentiments about equality. But the very hard part is deciding what is the standard for "equality"  Not everyone wants the same things. Not everyone wishes to work 60 hours a week, Not everyone wishes to work no hours in a week. By setting a standard for "equality" you necessarily impose distress to people on the opposite ends of the spectrum.

I do believe as a society we should help those who have fallen victim to poor fate (born with bad genes, natural disasters, etc..)... but the very hard task is separating "unlucky" people from the "lazy" people (people who wish others to provide for them because they choose to not provide for themselves.)

I know we try to do this with work requirements for welfare, but there has to be a strong line drawn between the objectively disabled/survivors of disasters and those who would enslave society to provide for them due to a choice of laziness.

History is rife with explanations and justifications for the collapse of previous societal norms and moral codes. The familiar pattern tends to unfold with repeated selections of the 'lesser evil' within the framework of a false dichotomy. Gradually, step by step, with each "lesser evil" embraced, societal values erode until, by consistent and incremental degrees, the metaphorical 'frog' is ultimately boiled in the pot. It's the pattern that is observed in all fallen and failed societies.

The long-gone Romans eventually embraced Dictatorship, the defunct Wiemar embraced extremism, and the former USSR embraced totalitarianism. Trading liberty and morality for security ensured that all those empires had neither.

You were right, it's impossible to have a discussion with all these toxic personal presumptions. The days of asking honest questions seem to be over everywhere in society these days. Now it is all about frenetically shoving the square peg into the round hole, questions be damned.

While I can understand why some members feel happy trolling discussion threads, it shouldn't be held as the standard form by this site's moderators.

Trump right now is a coin flip away from another term.
I have heard a similar line of reasoning before. I was watching a David Pakman show recently, and he had a guest (I forgot the guest's name, but it's irrelevant)

Anyway, the guest made this argument: If there were a significant number of people on the left that truly believed Trump was a Nazi Fascist, then wouldn't they have a  a clear motive and a moral obligation to cheat in the election to prevent Trump from returning as president? I thought that was a pointed take, and it seems to line up with your response.

I am reminded of this quote:

Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster.
And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.

I suppose for some, who worship the bastions of authority, the pillars of morality must also stem from those paragons of violent force. So if it is legal, it is proper. A true dichotomy. Amen.

You know what's also perfectly legal? Selling your son's paintings for 500k,  owning 4 homes on the salary of a politician, having people buy up a million copies of your "book", and charging 10,000 per minute for a "speech."

All similar examples of the false dichotomy you pointed out.

We have such a lack of professional integrity in this country. She’s clearly lying through her teeth.

This WAPO “journalist” needs to start getting sued for defamation. It’s time to pay for malicious journalism and bad practices. Btw I don’t even like Portnoy but it’s just crazy what is happening now.

People who use words like misogynistic, xenophobic, etc. on a daily basis and in real life, are insane.

A politician needs to draft a bill outlawing "canceling" people because it has gotten way out of control. It should be illegal to do what these "activist journalists" are doing. Intimidating advertisers should be illegal.

What do you guys think?
