I think that the key issue is not a question of virology but politics. In the case of SARS1 the reporting of outbreak was swift due to the Norwegian WHO secretary and the intermediary animal discovered rapidly due to transparency. In the case of COVID-19 we had a WHO secretary who was weak and manipulated by the Chinese government. Also the destruction of samples and research. Threats to whistleblowers. This was all political. Secondly there was the cover up of gain of function work by US researchers. Again political. The origins are known. It is just China does not want to own up to the lab leak. It would have done so if it was a wet market vector with identifiable intermediary animal. We should not be wasting time here. We should place severe sanctions on countries that do not report at point of outbreak and refuse to cooperate. Given the fact China did not cooperate it is very likely to be a lab leak and given the uncharacteristic transmissibility the virus was GOF.

I'm afraid human arrogance combined with incredible destructive capacities of applied science does not bode well for this species. Bioethics is a mere afterthought for these scientists and their teams. I recall reading a bioethics book chapter that had the memorable title, "How to play God and do it Responsibly." I remember reading Doudna's Crack In Creation, and at first she experienced moments of dread and nightmares. Yet here we are, the masses utterly incurious about all of it; biosafety and biosecurity hardly codified in the US and elsewhere. And it's not just bioethics. Consider that almost daily we hear pundits, politicians and military experts opine on the considerable risk of nuclear war-- including Presiden Biden. It has become so normalized that nobody shivers at the thought nowadays. How unlike the Cold War in which I grew up (the later years of it). The way it is discussed resembles the analysis of a football game, or strategy in chess. Dull-eyed and anesthetized the masses doomscroll through all of it with only a vague awareness of just what could happen. The media mimic the gov't line nowadays (on just fighting against Russians "as long as it takes" no matter the economic or nuclear world-wide risks). They identify all who would seek diplomacy as "Putin appeasers." Same with Covid. Any suggestion that the official narrative could be wrong was suppressed for years, and even now you are ostracized for having discussions like this one. None of the natural spillover proponents will even discuss the issue, and info at government levels is shrouded in layers upon layers of secrecy. Ethics is a mere afterthought in an age of very dangerous toys, and a lot of reckless people. And to think Darpa also had a hand in this....

The biggest objection I have to the natural origin hypothesis is the lack of an intermediate animal with an intermediate form of COVID. It appears the jump is straight from bats to humans, with 3% part of that jump unaccounted for in terms of virus evolution. There were sick animals from the wet market, all with the same virus that spread from human hosts. Then there is the matter of the furin cleavage site that does not appear naturally in other beta coronaviruses, but is in SARS-CoV-2 and as part of gain of function research in general. I saw part of the early research on the epidemiology in Wuhan, and the pattern of spread was along rail lines in Wuhan away from the WIV and clustered around the WIV. There were no clusters where one would have expected them if there was a natural origin, as per the Senate report. I concluded in January 2020 that something was fishy.

This is one of the biggest betrayals of the American people in US history.
The damage that was done to the population mentally, emotionally financially & psychologically as well as many lost businesses and jobs is something I never thought I would witness in my lifetime. The censorship has to stop.
I will never forget the skewed graphs that our public health department put out that had huge red bars for cases, and down below in black were tiny bars that showed the deaths. Almost none, and those numbers were skewed. I won't forget the local nurses going on tv and pretending that footage from NYC was actually their hospital, and they were on the front lines of this huge catastrophe, and yet when I go by the hospital you can see almost no evidence of activity at all. Census at the hospitals were 30% of capacity.
I'm glad to see this lawsuit taking place...and I hope there's many more to come. My fear is that Congress will investigate this travesty with a very narrow focus on only the "Lab Leak Theory" ... which in the end, I predict, will come to a dead end in China. There's far more fruitful investigations that could be conducted on wrong doing in the US with corporate constructed mandates and crony policy. Just open any page of RFK, Jr's new book and start there.

A scientist insisted Wednesday that Dr. Anthony Fauci is hiding the truth about the U.S. funding of research that could shed light on the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic during the first hearing on the matter.
At issue during the Senate homeland security and governmental affairs subcommittee on emerging threats hearing is gain-of-function research, which can enhance the severity or transmissibility of existing viruses that may infect humans. Since the pandemic erupted globally in early 2020, many American suspicions have pointed to China.
Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has been adamant that the National Institutes of Health did not fund gain-of-function research at a Chinese government lab.
But Dr. Richard Ebright, lab director for the Waksman Institute of Microbiology at Rutgers University, told senators Wednesday that Fauci was lying.
“The statements made on repeated occasions to the public, to the press, and to policymakers by ... Dr. Fauci have been untruthful,” Ebright said. “I do not understand why those statements are being made because they are demonstrably false.”
Ebright said last year that Fauci “lied to Congress, lied to the press, and lied to the public." He told the Senate he stands by those remarks and explained in his written testimony why he believed EcoHealth Alliance, a longtime collaborator with the Chinese government lab, had indeed conducted gain-of-function research while receiving U.S. taxpayer funding.

The Post first wrote about Hunter Biden’s suspicious overseas business dealings in October 2020, reports that were suppressed by Facebook and Twitter because of warnings from the FBI that the information may have been planted by the Russians to discredit Joe Biden before the election.

A federal judge has ordered Dr. Anthony Fauci and former White House press secretary Jen Psaki to be deposed for a lawsuit that claims top officials in the Biden administration colluded with social media companies to censor debate about the COVID pandemic and The Post’s expose on the Hunter Biden laptop.
Fauci, Psaki and other other administration officials — including Surgeon General Vivek Murthy — must testify about their communications with the tech companies as part of the lawsuit brought in May by Republican attorneys general Eric Schmitt of Missouri and Jeff Landry of Louisiana.
The attorneys general sought the testimony of Fauci, the chief medical adviser to President Biden, because of his high profile position and his public comments rejecting the theory that the virus leaked from a lab in Wuhan, China, as well as his claims about the efficacy of mask wearing.
“Plaintiffs urge that his comments on these important issues are relevant to the matter at hand and are further reasons why Dr. Fauci should be deposed,” US District Court Judge Terry Doughty wrote in his 28-page order issued on Friday.
“Plaintiffs assert that they should not be required to simply accept Dr. Fauci’s ‘self-serving blanket denials’ that were issued from someone other than himself at face value. The Court agrees,” Doughty, a judge in the Western District of Louisiana, wrote.
The judge added that Fauci “no doubt” engaged in communications with “high-ranking social media officials” and so far has not had to give any statements under oath.

It includes considering the source, is there a motivation for bias or not being truthful, what are the sources credentials, expertise and history of being accurate, and does the information make sense.
So this is a stock answer for someone who cannot critically think.
The way a person gets around CTS is to cite "verified" sources and appealing to authority and ad-homs of the source instead of addressing the content and context of an idea and comparing it to other known ideas and using logical deduction.
